Having moved, I am finding I am getting motivation to upgrade movies to Blu ray (I have DVDs for elsewhere that I am getting the mood to watch so it gives me a reason, LOL!) I bought Pan's Labyrinth's Criterion release. Then I saw Del Toro has 3 releases in Criterion, one of which is a movie I never seen of his Cronos. I think I am blind buying that movie. I like the vast majority of his movies, so I assume I will like it.

Never seen Cronos. As a fan of Del Toro's work, I probably really should. Also congrats on the Pan's Labyrinth upgrade. :woot:

I finally did that about 3 years ago. No way in hell i'm changing to 4k now. I miss flirting with the older ladies at blockbuster. Wink and wink, and free bucket of pop and candy. Goddamn. I miss going into those asian owned video stores. I was too young to get into them black tape rooms. A simple time then and not that far back, but it feels like a lifetime, ppl were less bald too.

Thanks! As soon as I saw that had a Criterion release, I had to buy iut :woot:

I see they also did The Devil's Backbone as well, which I don't actually own. That one I will get eventually, but probably wait on it a bit. I have at least seen it before, while Cronos I never have seen period.

I will buy new releases in 4K (largely those have the Blu Ray anyway and it is normally a difference of 5 bucks), but I don't have a 4K player anyway. Further, I am not making that investment a 4th time! I ditched the VHS's and now upgrading DVDs, I am not getting 4Ks for my Blu Rays! :cmad:

I got one 4K disc. 2049. It was the same price, so I was like, "why not"?

Makes perfect sense man. Really hope you enjoy it. :yay:

I've never even heard of those two films. :p

i have about 40 4ks, but i dont buy them unless they're 9.99 on lower. i did pick up a few at 14.99 on black friday, but they were bought with gift cards, so i count those as free. there have been a very few that i've picked up at a higher amount, one being a preorder of the Thor: Ragnarok 4k steelbook, but i used a $20 GC and paid about $15 for it out of pocket.

i have 1200+ blu rays that i've decided i need to cut down on. i recently sold 60 of them and plan on selling more lol

So do I! Should be here for me to watch this weekend

Devil's Backbone is well worth watching. Guillermo Del Toro is among my favorite directors when he is on point. Pan's Labyrinth in particular is I would say one of my 15 favorite movies. I also was very impressed with his most recent effort, The Shape of Water. Granted, that film and Pan's Labyrinth may not be for everybody (depends on how you feel about subtitles and it gets dark in the case of Pan's Labyrinth).

I cannot even count how many blu rays I have anymore, LOL! But, some films still gotta get the upgrade. I probably SHOULD cut down as well, but I am irresponsible when it comes to moneys :o:oldrazz:

So far for 4K, I have Spider-Man Homecoming and Guardians 2. Will be getting Thor: Ragnarok, also. Also recently got Blade Runner 2049 and Dunkirk. Largely I only get them if it is a movie I am buying day 1. Otherwise, the Wal Mart 8 buck blu ray bin is my jam!

if it's an exclusive i really want, i'll pick up day one. otherwise, i usually just wait until week 3 or so when most price drops hit
ive converted/upgraded a lot of my movies with Vudu's Disc to Digital, particularly ones that i dont watch enough to warrant holding on to the copy. i want to move and buy a house hopefully this year so selling them will help reduce some potential clutter, and maybe put some money towards my house savings.

Actually, in my experience people are more horrified by the death of the family pet in a movie than any single person.

This is why John Wick is such an effective revenge thriller. Everyone of those guys needed to pay in blood for what was done.

Sensible saving and spending does not compute :oldrazz:

Movies for me are like books. I just like having that physical copy. Also helps avoid issues like hard drive corruption, not being available due to poor internet connection, etc.

I also have a collector's mentality badly. If I end up buying 1 film in a series, I will tell myself I don't need the crappy sequels, and then I will break. I at least have myself trained to only buy the crappy sequels once they hit blu ray, LOL! Horror franchises are the worst as different distributors have the rights to different movies and often they only get released by companies like Shout who charge more (which is fair given they put more effort into their releases and it is bound to sell less copies than a major movie).

Blackout curtains are the devil. I went to bed at 11am, as is normal for my night shift misery, and I didn't wake up until 10pm. That's 11 hours! I have no concept of time! But I need them though, they block out the hated sun.

If you're buying criterion films the I recommend Eyes Without a Face and House.

that's part of the reason why i haven't watched it yet, although i own both Wicks in 4K :p

i am aware there is animal violence in the film, but if it's graphic, i can't bear to see it

Indeed. Who cares about the dead wife? It was losing the puppy that did Wick in. :(

Arrow releases a lot of great horror blurays.
