The Avengers Guardians of the Galaxy (2014): Will tie-in with The Avengers

They're gonna need to get some top notch creative minds and A-list acting talent behind this, or no one will care. I mean, Christ, I actually read comics and I could barely give a **** about the Guardians of the Galaxy. What will the mainstream audiences think?
If its advertised as being part of or leading into the next Avengers film people will see it. Awareness on anything Avengers will gain attention from general audience. Everyone loves that flick and wants more.

They're gonna think: spaceships and rayguns. Vicious aliens and cute fuzzies. Epic star wars set against the backdrop of space. Hot naked alien chicks.

Ka-CHING. :applaud:applaud:applaud

Any chance they could include Silver Surfer in this? Kinda like how they can include Wanda and Pietro if certain parameters are met. Regardless they should really dip into the cosmic A-List like Adam Warlock, Nova, Annihilus, Quasar and Mar-Vell.

Not while Fox has him an they go through with a FF movie. ****ing bs, they probably wont even use him. Hopefully a deal can be made at some point.

The biggest bummer is that Galactus is with Fox. If Marvel truly wants to make a Space Opera saga having Galactus AND Thanos would be the biggest bang for the buck.

I have next to no interest in this.

Black Panther or Dr. Strange, damnit :csad:.

IS Fox still working on an FF reboot? I know they still do X-men movies but you'd think Fantastic Four and Daredevil would be back by now. Maybe Punisher from Lionsgate even. It's been a while for all of these guys.

I wouldn't be shocked if this winds up being the second best MS film, behind Avengers.

Look at Green Lantern though. Sci-fi is always a tough sell. And if the visuals aren't there, people will reject.

Only someone like James Cameron can get away with Avatar.

Yes, look at Green Lantern....and how it steered away from space opera, when by all counts it should have been heading warp speed straight at it.

GL failed miserably because the space opera *wasn't* there, and *should've* been. Had they ditched Hector Hammond completely for a future film, and put the bulk of the movie on Oa and in space and dealt with Hal training with the Corps and showing what the Corps was all about, and building up Parallax into a memorable entity, and spending more time with the aliens like Tomar-Re, Kilowog and Sinestro, that damn well would've turned into a successful, even great movie.

GL tried to be DC's answer to Iron Man, when it's cast had the combined charisma of Robert Downey Jr's pinky.

I need to watch GL again just because I need to remember THE stupidest plot hole ever. It was something along the lines of Hal saying he doesn't want the Corps help and he leaves Oa then 10 mins later he goes back and gets it...that whole film was two hours of fail.

I have ultimate faith GOTG will be amazing.

Personally I don't get the hatred for guardians. I don't get how no one thought it waasn't inevitable. With Thanos introduced, it was bound to happen.

Personally, I am glad its happening.

I will also this, I am even MORE glad its happening instead of Black Panther. I really did not want black panther to happen

Guardians could be a good movie off in it's own corner...
But they're are so many more important Avengers-related characters that should be introduced before this.
Not everyone likes space epics, I'm gunna have a much tougher time selling my girlfriend on GotG (or Avengers 2 if it's all cosmic-y)

MS has yet to deliver a turd film, not even a mediocre one imo but GOTG 2.0, with this line up has me head scratching. To me with Drax and Warlock they are more Infinity Watch 2.0 than anything, especially if Gamora shows up. GOTG are a 31st century team co-created by legendary Gene Colan and that team was a great read.

I know Major Victory/Vance has become allied with GOTG2.0 or late but he's not even on the roster Feige mentioned. You'd think having a character with lose association to Captain America would be necessary. As it relates to Avengers ties.

Still the lineup, you mean to tell me that BOTH a talking raccoon AND tree are in the lineup as main characters?? SERIOUSLY? This isn't Planet of the Apes where audiences have been tuned for talking apes. This isn't some childhood fantasy where we all wished our Teddy Bear could talk back to us. It has Howard the Duck 2.0 written all over it. Mocking of LOTR in space with Groot for God's sake.

So, while I'm going to have faith till such a time it might be necessary to not have it I had to get that off my chest.

Well there were several better known Marvel teams, but most of them include mutants, so that may not have been an option. Plus, another earth-bound superhero team that occupies the same space as TA is just too much for this medium.

I think we have enough info now to presume that a movie of this kind is doable. The CGI for Rocket will have to be unprecedented in order to work, and the voice actor will have to be top notch. They can save money by using relative unknowns, but a 250 million plus budget seems inevitable. Which makes the whole thing sound like John Carter all over again.

They will need to spend a LOT of money on this - more than The Avengers - and they will need at least one maybe two known actors. I actually find the whole thing pretty damn ballsy by Marvel. There were safer moves than this. Hope it comes off.

That's just the thing. I don't think Marvel is doing every single movie to lead up to Avengers. Not all of them will be about introducing the next Avenger. There are plenty of characters and genres for Marvel to introduce and not all of them will be related to The Avengers. I think going cosmic is a great route before going into the mystical stuff. Cosmic stuff is very much linked to science so that bridge is much easier to build. Guardians of The Galaxy presents a great way to do that because they are pretty much the central hub of Marvel's cosmic universe with everybody going through them. I'm sure at some point they or another cosmic related character will run into Mephisto or Dormammu and that will lead into a movie like Dr. Strange.

I'm all for Marvel getting off of earth for a little bit. Even Thor spent a third of his movie on earth.

With what Joss Whedon did with Serenity's budget I wouldn't be surprised if they went to him for some kind of guidance in this field. This movie is about as risky today as X-men was back in 2000 or Spider-man in 2002. If this is a hit it's going to be such a gateway for comic book movies. All bets off at that point.

He went to get help? I thought he went to ask for permission to fight? My idea of getting help is 1 of the two. (when it relates to the green lantern movie)

1) go to Io as 1 and com back to earth as many.
2) go to Io and come back with a supercharge power up. (this can be the case if he lost his powers and went to get his power again)

but nooooo he went to Io (even tho he was still using his powers, and got beat up) to ask if he can save earth? WTF... so much potential in that movie wasted.

Sorry to be THAT Green Lantern fanboy but it's Oa, not Io. Yeah, I didn't get his deal either. "I want no part of this...Keeping the ring, though. That's just tops."

This is pretty much how i feel. The entire movie will be CGI'd and you'll have a bunch of actors in mo cap suits whose faces will not be shown. I mean we're talking a budget of 200 mill at the very least here. And its on a property that is pretty much known by no one outside the world of us comic book nerds. Even a good number of us have not picked up a GOTG comic. i'm seriously doubting the mainstream appeal for this. It might be a good movie but i'm seeing a potential financial bomb akin to John carter.

I'm a rabid fan of marvel studios and have been with them since day one, and even I can't muster any enthusiasm for this film. They haven't dropped the ball yet and I know if there's one studio that can do it it's MS, but there are numerous other characters they could make a movie around that would not only be safer, but would probably end up more successful. Granted I know almost nothing about GOtG, but I'd bet money this is gonna be Marvel's first flop.

The difference is John Carter was about a completely erroneous, outdated fictional interpretation of Mars, was based on books written almost a century ago, and on a series that *never* had anything more than a very small but very loyal group of niche followers....and then the movie proceeded to crap all over the beloved canon of that small but very loyal group of niche followers.

And everyone needs to just own up to the fact that the general audiences don't know ANY of the remaining Marvel properties, so the odds of success of ANY Marvel Studios movie henceforth will have absolutely nothing to do with how "well-known" the characters are.....because they aren't. Well-known. NONE of them....Black Panther, Ms. Marvel, Ant-Man, Dr. Strange, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Inhumans, The Runaways, or the Guardians of the Galaxy.

It's all a crapshoot after The Avengers.

Exactly. At this point it's like saying Blade doesn't stand a chance. It's all about ideas. Not popularity in a group that's pretty small as it is.
