Carrey has received critical acclaim for roles such as "I love you Phillip Morris" and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind". He's a fine actor, period, not just a funny man.

I've been following the exploits of the Mad Titan since Starlin's run on Captain Marvel. I know the character. Given your description of Thanos as "cut from the same cloth" as Darkseid, it would appear that you don't understand the character at all.

Carrey is a tall, athletic, gifted actor with an expressive face who can bring the "buzz" essential for what looks to be a risky project. Thanos isn't Darkseid. I want a performer who can deliver a humorous line with an evil smile. And, other than Jim's slight build - which will be covered in armor and padding - I haven't read a compelling reason why he shouldn't be cast in the role.

I responded to someone who questioned my understanding of the character using his exact words. I understand the concern, but I would prefer a skilled actor. In the role as opposed to a muscular brute. I think, like Michael Keaton as Batman, Carrey would impress in the role.

I have no regrets on that jerk being banned. I don't know what he's like in real life, but on here he was a complete ass. He was irrational and when people responded to the fallacies of his arguments he ignored them.

Just remember how he was losing **** over how he was hearing The Avengers was about 2 hours and 15 minutes and how it HAD to be 2 hours and 25 minutes to be good. After I saw it I explained how it was actually 2 hours 23 minutes which he also basically ignored. He said they still cut too much out and there was no way it could be good. Movies under 2 and a half hours can't be good and are popcorn movies blah blah blah. Barring the ****ing fact that his favorite movie of all time Driver was like 97 minutes.

Also let's just look at Lord of the Rings, the original Jackson trilogy. Even when you look at the extended edition altogether, there was a ton of footage that was filmed that didn't make it into any cut. The orcs chasing the Fellowship into Lothlorien. Elrond going to Lothlorien for Council with Galadriel. ARWEN AT HELM'S DEEP! There was a ton of stuff they shot that they just jettisoned and went in a different direction.

Sometimes things get shot that don't work for the movie. The Maria Hill scenes didn't work so they changed it and ultimately it was for the better. They do give more for Maria Hill to do but suddenly we start with this new character who we aren't invested in and it reveals way too much early on. The new opening was much better and more ominious and gives us a look at what is to come later. To have the Hill footage in there no longer makes any sense.

I think the only the only scenes that should've been left in are the Cap scenes, but that's only about 2-3 minutes tops.

Now have all the movies Marvel's done been perfect? No, but so far they've done a pretty good job of building this beast and I'm not too worried. Thor's a big franchise character now which I never imagined could happen.

Not at all. With the rumors of Sandler and Carrey being up for roles, I simply pondered if they were good fits for a GOTG role other than Groot or Rocket. I couldn't come up with anything for Sandler, but I could see Marvel considering Carrey for the role of Thanos.

Thanos is not stoic like Dr. Doom or Darkseid. The Thanos I know and love is a smiling, cackling madman (hence the nickname) who takes great joy in creating chaos. He has a big personality, and I think it will take a large screen presence to act through the prosthetics and makeup. I understand it is a very unpopular opinion, but it would not surprise me if Marvel gives Carrey strong consideration for the role.

I actually don't think Carrey would do a bad job as Thanos. This isn't 90's Riddler Carrey we're dealing with anymore. He's a seasoned and accomplished actor now who just happened to start out as a comedian. Same with Jamie Foxx, who will be starring in TASM2 as Electro. While I could also see Carrey voicing Rocket, or even Groot, I have to admit that his rubbery face does work well with Thanos' facial expressions. I'm also sure he could be truly dark when he needs to be, which also works fantastically for Thanos... as well as his bombastic voice. Seems like quite the inspired choice, to me.

Jim Carrey is a chameleon when it comes to his roles. Let's expand our minds here and really think about it instead of judging it immediately based on our opinions and not facts.

Exactly. He reminds me a lot of Robin Williams, who was scary good in "One Hour Photo" and "Insomnia". Carrey is a bundle of crazed intensity - if harnessed properly he will be chilling as Thanos.
