i am hyped about this movie. it looks like a weird scifi comicbook movie. they will need a very bad trailer to change me :)

casting Saldana is smart. they will promote the movie with a girl who was a blue alien in Avatar and Uhura in ST. ''hello i am playing the green alien. i was the blue alien and Uhura in 2009. come and watch my movie''

this is marketing 101. fantastic :)

that cantina concept art would be cooler if it was in fact inside knowhere

was it really like that back in those days? I wasn't active in the movie forum community back then. But it wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Oh yeah, there was definitely a huge negative backlash when he was announced for the part.

I've always liked him, I enjoy Knights Tale, Patriot, and Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Shame he died.

Saldana is so obvious I cant believe I didnt think of her before, great casting, hope it gets confirmed, Saldana is sexy as hell and can do action so she will be a great Gamora.

Also, I hope these supposed rumours of Beta Ray Bill appearing are true, unlike others in here I would love to see him. Mainly because it would mean we could get the Annihilators down the line.

I honestly thought Saldana would be too big a name for Marvel at this point. I am so glad I'm wrong. I'm positively in love with this casting choice.

I love that GOTG's casting has basically been a roller coaster. Completely outside the box (Chris Pratt), something a little "meh" (Bautista), and then "OMG SHE IS PERFECT!" (Saldana).

Except I'm actually getting a little interested in Bautista now, to see how he'll handle Drax.

I don't understand how Saldana is a big name? I never heard of her, if it wasn't for the fact that someone said she was in avatar, I wouldnt know who she is

Personally, I laughed my butt off at the idea of her being a gun-toting action star like in "Colombiana". Same thing for her role in "The Losers".

She's just too petite and girly for me to take her serious in that kind of role. The upside is she does have a recognizable name.

But imagine Saldana as Gamora and wielding a blade, spinning it and slicing people down left and right. She can pull that off.

:pal:

A talking raccoon toting a cannon. I think you need to be open-minded for a movie like this.

I don't see how she could be too big of a name for Marvel considering they cast Anthony Hopkins in Thor and another screen legend Robert Redford in Captain America 2.

She's nowhere near their level.

How can anyone not love Rocket Raccoon I guess since I love him so much it just doesn't make sense to me.

But you'll buy a squirrel toting a cannon ?

Different kind of character. I doubt Gamora will be written for comic relief. I initially scoffed at the idea of a racoon running around with guns, but when I sat and thought about the idea some things started to become clear. Rocket is like the "Rudy" of the group if you will. The unexpected, eccentric, short in stature member and overchiever that you root on.

Gamora is a sword wielding bad ass. They tried to make Zaldana a bad ass in those films I mentioned earlier and to me (again jmo) it didn't work.

Rocket isn't written for comic relief. He's played straight, which is why he's funny.

Yes, but the fact that Rocket is played straight is why he's so funny. He really believes that he's a badass, and he is. He and Groot are the comic relief of Guardians. Groot to a lesser extent.

Exactly. The fact that he takes himself so seriously is what makes it funny .... kind of like little yippy dogs. I have one next door to me who barks at me like he could actually cause me any harm.

Yep. And then he's the yippy dog that actually surprises someone when he jumps on their face to attack them and take them down. That's the funniest part. When Rocket takes down someone bigger than him who doesn't take him seriously.

Rocket Raccoon sounds like Reepicheep from The Chronicles of Narnia based on those descriptions.

Exactly. If Marvel nails this, they'll do it by playing Rocket 100% straight, not by turning him into Donkey from Shrek.

Yes! Reepicheep was exactly my first thought when I first heard of RR. Only minus the whole noble/honorable schtick that Reepicheep has going.

Rocket is comic relief no matter how you look at it. He doesn't need to be a comedian like Donkey to be comedy relief. He is naturally the comic relief because of how he acts and what he does. Groot is also comic relief, but to a lesser extent like I said earlier.

I don't think you were disputing that fact, just saying.

This is by far the biggest name actress Marvel has cast since Natalie Portman, so it did seem like Marvel was trending toward hiring unknowns for all of the female leads for a little while in there
