was it really like that back in those days? I wasn't active in the movie forum community back then. But it wouldn't surprise me in the least.
Oh yeah, there was definitely a huge negative backlash when he was announced for the part.
I don't understand how Saldana is a big name? I never heard of her, if it wasn't for the fact that someone said she was in avatar, I wouldnt know who she is

I honestly thought Saldana would be too big a name for Marvel at this point.
But you'll buy a squirrel toting a cannon ?
Yes, but the fact that Rocket is played straight is why he's so funny. He really believes that he's a badass, and he is. He and Groot are the comic relief of Guardians. Groot to a lesser extent.
Exactly. The fact that he takes himself so seriously is what makes it funny .... kind of like little yippy dogs, like the one next door to me who barks at me like he could actually cause me any harm.
Rocket isn't written for comic relief. He's played straight, which is why he's funny.
Yes! Reepicheep was exactly my first thought when I first heard of RR. Only minus the whole noble/honorable schtick that Reepicheep has going.Rocket Raccoon sounds like Reepicheep from The Chronicles of Narnia based on those descriptions.
Exactly. If Marvel nails this, they'll do it by playing Rocket 100% straight, not by turning him into Donkey from Shrek.
This is by far the biggest name actress Marvel has cast since Natalie Portman, so it did seem like Marvel was trending toward hiring unknowns for all of the female leads for a little while in thereI don't see how she could be too big of a name for Marvel considering they cast Anthony Hopkins in Thor and another screen legend Robert Redford in Captain America 2.
She's nowhere near their level.
