This is by far the biggest name actress Marvel has cast since Natalie Portman, so it did seem like Marvel was trending toward hiring unknowns for all of the female leads for a little while in there
Well, in comparison to Gwyneth Paltrow, Liv Tyler, Scarlett Johansson and Portman, yeah, Hayley Atwell, Cobie Smulders, and Emily VanCamp were relative unknowns. But I still think in general Marvel has continued to target big names/up-and-coming names.

What's most important is that they cast big talent.

Yes, but the fact that Rocket is played straight is why he's so funny. He really believes that he's a badass, and he is. He and Groot are the comic relief of Guardians. Groot to a lesser extent.

That's what makes him so likeable, it's even more important to his character than Stark's snarkinest.

GOTG set in 2045?

Motorcycle manufacturers across the UK have been put on high alert after Marvel stated that it is searching for a "futuristic" looking electric bike to be used in an upcoming film.

The comic book movie makers have contacted the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA) and explained that the bike will be used in a major production that will be shot in England in an imaginary 2045.

Officials explained that Marvel did not give any specifics in terms of numbers needed but only said that it would be requiring more than one.

Marvel don't want to search for an existing "futuristic looking" bike. It will just look completely outdated in a few years time, either when everyone has one or it has gone out of fashion.

If you were in the UK in the 1980s, you might remember this "futuristic" electric vehicle: The Sinclair C-5:

That never quite took off, and now looks badly dated. No-one could pass that off as something from the future. It would just be laughable.

The solution is to get someone to build a unique-looking bike and not have it mass marketed, much like the 1989 Batmobile.

If true, it will be interesting to see how they plan to tie it into Iron Man 3 if those rumors are also true. I mean will it be a distress signal from the future warning of past events? Also, it could just be that they of course want the vehicles to look like they are from the future, because of coming from space as oppose to it actually being the future.

I assumed that the Tesseract opened up portals to other galaxies or dimensions . If the rumor of a future setting for GOTG is true, then perhaps the cosmic cube can transport its wielder through time as well.

Iron Man's rumored appearance in GOTG may be his trip through the portal in The Avengers, with Quill's team battling the Chituari invasion from the ship and then fleeing after Tony releases the nuke.

Let me know which of my words is causing you such distress and I will attempt to provide additional clarification.

for some reason, this is why Rocket Irritates the **** out of me :/

Don't think that Iron Man theory is right... could be, because anything is possible, but I don't think so.

And they don't need to have the Tesseract transport anyone through time. The Time gem(one of the infinity gems) can do that already.

I really like this suggestion. He's done a great job in the voice work he has done.

Ahem.
X-Men: Days of Future Past is set 30 years into an alternate future. That would be, from release date, very approximately 2044-2045.

I pretty much doubt that any UK motorcycle manufacturers are diehard comic book fans, and probably don't know the difference between Marvel characters who are owned by Marvel Studios, or Marvel characters who are owned by Sony or Fox.

Just sayin'. Before everybody dives in and starts reporting that GOTG is "officially" set in 2045. As opposed to DOFP.

....oh wait. Appears I'm too late for that.

They could just be using that description to throw people off. Either way, it's most likely referring to GotG, but it doesn't necessarily mean the film is set in 2045.

Doubt it.
"Futuristic motorcycles" sounds more like DOFP territory than GOTG. GOTG is more full-blown space opera, while DOFP's near-future dystopia sounds like the kind of place you'd see "futuristic motorcycles."

Where GOTG is going, they don't need motorcycles....or even roads. :cwink:

I figured they were describing a type of floating motorcycle or something lol.

But yeah if it's going to be more conventional then DOFP would be the place.

Is DOFP even filming in the UK? They're filming in Montreal, according to Singer via Twitter.

The Avengers 2 is going to start filming at Pinewood-Shepperton Studios early next year, however. Perhaps they need those "futuristic" motorcycles because a certain purple time-traveler is planning to put in an appearance. You never know what Marvel might be up to.... :ninja:

There might just be certain scenes in the future. Maybe the time gem plays a part in it. This might sound odd, but what if the Guardians are from a future where Thanos has competely taken over after he has defeated Star Lord. Somehow they get hold of the time gem or are time-warped by Thanos to our time. They then have to find Peter and train him to be the Star Lord, knowing that it's his destiny because they've already seen it. They also have to collect the Infinity Gems before Thanos does to prevent what he does in the future.

Sounds crazy and perhaps too "out there", but I'm just spitballing here.

The report said a Marvel film to be shot in the UK. DOFP is being shot in Vancouver is it not? I'm also pretty sure if it was for DOFP Marvel wouldn't be contacting the company, Fox would be.

That's my point: we don't *know* who contacted the Motorcycle Industry Association. The brief report was made by someone who clearly doesn't know much about the particulars of Marvel properties, or the English language in general:

The MCI has been contacted by the film makers Marvel, who are looking for electric bikes with a ‘futuristic’ look to use in a major feature film. This will be shot in England in an imaginary 2045.

The film makers have not been able to specify the exact number needed only that it would defiantly be more than one - to be decided by the director.

Manufacturers, who have something suitable and would welcome the chance to be involved, can contact Ian Clark, Picture Vehicle Coordinator via the MCI press office.

"Film makers Marvel" does not necessarily translate to "Marvel Studios." Just somebody making a Marvel film. MS, Fox, or Sony. Until we get a more solid confirmation from Marvel Studios, or at least a geeksite blogger who tries to get confirmation, I think it's just as likely that the report is about DOFP as it is GOTG. Hell, *more* likely to be DOFP, which actually makes sense; Gunn/MS moving GOTG to the near future instead of the 31st century and/or present day would be a pretty big head-scratcher.

Wait, no, there's no proof that DOFP is set that far in the future at all. The horrible future could be mere years after the end of The Last Stand/The Wolverine. And the time gap could be between 1973 and 2013, for all we know.

I doubt anyone is travelling 70 years into the past to prevent something in 2044.

I mean, it could be, but I highly doubt we're seeing 70 year old Halle Berry strutting about in DOFP.

OK so the studio isn't confirmed but DOFP is being shot in Vancouver and hasn't even been confirmed to be shooting in the UK. GOTG is shooting in the UK makes sense it's GOTG.

Wouldn't the future of DOFP be closer to our current timeline if anything? Considering First Class takes place in the 60's.

There's a lot of time stuff going on? What if Guardians takes place in the future, where Thanos has already acquired the gauntlet? They are living in a universe/galaxy under his power, and rule. He would sort of like, control an empire, like the emperor in star wars. He could use the IG as like, a nuclear deterant sort of, except he plans on using it. Oppose my rule, you will be destroyed. As a result, the earth and milky way has already been destroyed and maybe the guardians current galaxy could be in dire straits, and the universe is on it's path towards destruction. Maybe that's when star lord sends out a distress call? From the future maybe lol. The guardians go back in time to 2015 to get the avengers to assist them in stopping Thanos before he acquires the gauntlet, in turn saving the milky way, and the universe?

It is sort of a way they can show how powerful thanos is with the gauntlet, without him necessarily HAVING to use it in avengers 2? though the IG is still a main main plot device

Here's my last night post on the matter. Yours is similar.

Futuristic motorcycle.
To be used in GOTG.
Which is probably set mostly in space.

Crazy sheeeit, they've stolen from DC and are going to use. ... Lobo!
