Leonardo DiCaprio Eyes Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Nightmare Alley’ Remake (EXCLUSIVE)

Leonardo DiCaprio is in negotiations to star in Fox Searchlight’s remake of “Nightmare Alley,” Guillermo del Toro’s follow-up to his Oscar-winning film “The Shape of Water.”

Del Toro will direct the pic and co-wrote the script with Kim Morgan. The pic is being produced and financed by Guillermo Del Toro and J. Miles Dale with TSG Entertainment, with Fox Searchlight acquiring worldwide distribution rights to the film.

The film is based on the 1947 Fox movie that starred Tyrone Power as an ambitious young con-man who hooks up with a female psychiatrist who is even more corrupt than he is. At first, they enjoy success fleecing people with their mentalist act, but then she turns the table on him, out-manipulating the manipulator.”

Of all the cool projects that he could've chosen to work on... he went with the remake of a thriller. Kind of disappointing, but oh well.

Watch the original. It’s more than just a “thriller”. This could be really exciting.

Well, if the original is good then what's the point of remaking it? I dunno, this sounds like a waste of time to me.

So people who’ll never watch an “old” movie or who’ve never heard of it - which I assume is 90% of ppl - will discover this worthy story.

Obviously these two Oscar winners think it’s worth retelling.

I can't argue with that since I don't have any Oscar (yet). I just wish Del Toro was working on something more interesting.

Kim Morgan is Del Toro's gf. Good on him for getting both Leo and her, she is hnnngh and very sharp.

Yeah if you read the synopsis it's a pretty crazy flick.

Between this and Boogie Nights, Leo is going to give PTA a complex...

He has a stop motion film in pre-production in Portland right now. Cowritten with the creator of Over the Garden Wall with the same lead animator who works with Wes Anderson. Pretty damn interesting.

Honest question, have you seen the original? How is this any different than any other new adaptation or original film for you?

The difference is that Del Toro is directing it and IMO it's a waste of time since the original movie was already good (now that I know of its existence I'll watch it... eventually). He should only direct movies that I want him to direct.

In case anyone wants to see the original, it's up on YT

It's not really a step down, but Leo doing anything is always top shelf.

Does this mean Leo's free to do that new PTA?
