The Dark Knight Rises Guy Pearce on Batman 3, The Dark Knight, and Heath Ledger

I wana see who else gives a great performance in a supporting role this year that is Oscar Worthy

Heath has it won right now IMO but i wana see who else gets in the Oscar talk

Yeah but Heath has to win, he gave a ground-breaking performance.

Yes he did.. But what if someone else gives a great performance this year? We have to acknowledge performances when they performed

But Ledger IMO has set the bar high for this years nominees We'll see who the acdemy stacks up against him

Yeah I guess.

Nolan won't cast anyone obvious. He won't cast Depp because then instead of coming to see the character, they'll come to see Depp, he doesn't do that. Nolan casts guys who are on the cusp of stardom, not guys who will overshadow the role.

Ledger was sort of well known, but most saw him as the gay cowboy, not as a great actor like they do Depp, but Nolan saw Ledger's talent, just like I'm sure whoever else Nolan will cast will have lots of talent and have a performance that gets them more notoriety just like Bale, Leger, and Eckhart did.

As for Pearce, I like the guy, but whoever said that before TDK came out that they wanted him as Two-Face is nuts, he's way to skinny. He could fit the Riddler, but I want to be surprised by Nolan's pick.

To be fair, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and Liam Neeson aren't exactly on the "cusp of stardom".

He's also dead. It would mean more if they gave it to him alive since many people would see it more as a mercy Oscar since he died soon after the role not for his actual performance.

I hope he does get it, though. He deserves it.

Alot of us believe that Ledger should win an Oscar for his performance in TDK, but unfortunately facts are facts. and only one actor (Peter Finch) has ever won after death. Which doesnt bode too well for Ledger's chances at actually winning. Personally, I would be absolutely thrilled to see Ledger's performance get the recognition it truly deserves in that of a nomination.

And needless to say, overjoyed if he actually won.

Guy Pearce>>>Johnny Depp

IMO of course...

CFE
Hey Umm, I think you accidently flipped the greater than symbol around, its backwards....just thought I'd point that out to you................................................................

what did he say about ledger's performance?

the video wont load up for me

I'll take Pearce over Depp any day.

I hate stuff like this though

Why has it become cool to hate on Depp?

Just casue Pirates 3 and Sweeny Todd sucked?

Depp is easily one of the 5 best leading men in hollywood still, he's made some duds recently but he still is really really good and a completely original actor.

Don't forget, Christian Bale was in crap like equilibrium and reign of fire before Batman, and Ledger was mulling around in crap to passably good stuff like The Order, Four Feathers, The Patriot, and A Knights Tale too.
Depp has a greater history of being a phenominal actor, than his recent 2007 struggles show-he would be a fantastic riddler

again though, my preference between the two is Pearce but by no means do i think Depp would make a bad Riddler

I'm not trying to hate on Depp, I just prefer Pearce for this role. Depp would do a nice job as Riddler, because he is talented and one of the best in Hollywood. But Pearce feels like more of a dark horse and I like that...plus he's also talented and has an edge to him...and yeah, I guess I'm tired of Depp.

Yeah, but they were all supporting roles, rather than the main characters. I think the poster meant that when it comes to people like BAtman, Joker, etc, Noaln would rather cast someone classy but not a major name (yet).

Who is to say that the Riddler isn't a supporting role? Outside the Joker none of the villains have had more than supporting roles in the Nolan series. I'm not saying Depp is the best choice for the Riddler, because I don't think he is (personally I'd take Pearce over Depp in a second). But he's not a horrible choice either. And unlike most stars of his caliber, he doesn't play the same part in every film. I just think some people are dismissing him for the role simply because he is such a popular actor. There is nothing about his acting ability or his appearance that suggests he's wrong for the part. Honestly, if the worst studio mandate we get for the third Batman film is Johnny Depp, then, well, it could be a lot worse. Besides, I still am of the opinion that no matter how much Goyer and Nolan said otherwise at the time, that Katie Holmes was a studio mandate. So yeah, it could be worse.

Agreed, I like Depp for Riddler but Pearce would be ideal.

The nice thing about Pearce as opposed to Depp is once he takes on the role it'll be one of those things we can't picture anyone else doing. Whereas Depp already has that role with Jack Sparrow it (was) so great so when he is the Riddler there will just naturally be those comparisons between Sparrow and Riddler.

I do believe though they will each give exceptional performances, I just think the perception of Pearce will be looked at as greater

Exactly the point I've been trying to make.:up:

This will make 2 Australian actors cast in the Nolan Batman Film Series, Ledger and Pearce, if he is cast.

I would like Guy Pearce but maybe not as the Riddler. His delivery is too serious all the time. He is too everyman to be play this role. Not enough conviction...I want James Spader.

Pearce could be the new tech if Lucious Fox doesn't come back. He actually looks like a cop so maybe he can be Gordan's new bright spot.

Wow in one post we went from arguing about two of the best actors of the last 10-15 years to introducing james spader into the fold...
