Gwen Stacy...to kill or not to kill.

Don't remind me. That finale was ridiculous; a toy commercial.
I can't think of one character who has died in a superhero cartoon. The only people who are dead died a long time ago, e.g. Uncle Ben, the Waynes, the Graysons. We see them in flashback only. The kids didn't get to know them, get attached to them & then see them die.

Dan Turpin says hi. So do, like, a third of the characters in "Brave and the Bold".

She should die, its a pivotal point of the story about Peter. It seems possible only a DVD movie but than again, how are they going to explain this in the show. Those who missed out on the DVD are going to get confused as to the sudden disappearance of one of the main characters.

Never mind, I thought you were talking about characters in general.

No established character dies in "Brave and the Bold", but they do show enough of Blue Beetle Ted Kord to care about him when he dies.

So that means, the only way to progress the stories after that will be straight to video releases, and that idea doesn't sound too good. Series is a better medium for these kind of things, gradually progressing a story, more specifically things to start happening between Pete and MJ.

You know I've always been a fan of MJ and the marriage (one of the many reasons I stopped reading the comics)

But this Gwen is just so damn likeable. I watched a couple episodes, and I found myself really digging this version of Gwen, then it hit me... "Oh $#!*, she's Gwen Stacy!!!!, this won't end well."

I grew up after the death of Gwen (I'm still probably way older than most of the rest of you) And I always respected what her Death meant in the context Spider-Man's history (a long time ago I tracked down copies of AMS 121 and 122) But it hasn't been until now that I really understood the emotional impact of her death, because I just don't want to see this Gwen die. It's quite sad watching this show and "knowing what's going to happen"

I say don't kill her. They don't have 40 years worth of stories to tell, I REALLY hope I'm wrong but with being shoved on an obscure Disney sub-channel I think they'll be really really lucky to make it to 3 seasons (and that awfull cheesetastic TAS made it to 5 or 6, ugh, there is no justice) Which means killing Gwen would probably be one of the last things to happen in the series. and really, that's a really bitter depressing way to end the show.

I think it's ok if Gwen gets a happy ending in at least one continuity.

I don't think it's really debatable that she should; it's whether or not she will. In a continuity that has Tombstone serving as the Kingpin w/Hammerhead gleefully taking orders from him, Harry being the first to don the Goblin mask, Peter & Eddie sharing a lifelong history, MONTANA & SHOCKER BEING THE SAME PERSON, the Rhino starting out as Flint Marko's partner & Quentin Beck working for the Chameleon, they obviously aren't that worried about following the comics.

I would love to see the whole Death of Gwen Stacy play out in animation but of course if it is to be done wait til the college years of the DTV movies when the can show darker and grittier stories.

That's what I just said. Based on comments made by Weisman about future plans for this show after its initial run they will be free to explore more mature themes during the college years which would be the DTV movies or whatever format they choose. Which is why many of us speculate that Gwen's death may be part of that plan.

DTV = Direct to Video (the most recent examples include Hulk vs. and Wonder Woman).

I don't see how that's "drastically changing" the theme. All that was said was they would be making more mature stories. I don't see how that makes it a 180.

Yes, kill her. I'm not very keen on the character. She's too meek and boring. The Gwen of the comics, and even SM-3 had alot more life and spunk than this one.

As far as my take on this, if they do kill her off (or anyone else in the series for that matter) I'd rather it not be just because it "happened in the comics". And for what it's worth if this version of Gwen didn't die than I wouldn't be upset in the slightest.

I don't agree. She was the first long term enduring gf Peter had. The only reason she was killed off was because the editor back then, Roy Thomas, didn't know how to keep Peter continually going in a mature relationship like that. Alot like the clown running Marvel at the moment, Joe Queseda, who recently erased the Peter/MJ marriage.

Stan Lee had always intended for Peter to marry Gwen eventually. But he left the writing duties of ASM about 12 issues before Gwen was killed off.

MJ was the one who had alot more spunk in her than Gwen did.

MJ has more spunk that any gf Peter's had. She has more spunk than Gwen in this cartoon, too.

Um-the fact that every time this is done (with any character other than Batman) the fans cry shenanigans & throw a hissy fit, perhaps? You must be relatively new to the boards. Internet fanboys don't want originality-or at least they don't ask for it-but rather blind faithfulness to a script that was written 30 years ago.
Me-again I think it's unlikely but I think I mainly want Gwen out of the way so that Peter & MJ can be together.

Well... I meant moreso the way that it is in continuity. Not like STAS and Superman Doomsday, or even Brainiac attacs (despite having the same character designs)

I do want to see her become Peter's girlfriend for a couple of seasons first before Norman gets her...and throws her off of a bridge not take her to Europe and give her twins.
