Harry Potter - The Complete Series Thread

I just re watched The Sorcerer's Stone and I loved it. That one is pure magic.

But Azkaban to date is the best movie of the series.

A lot of people think that, but I just don't get it. In my opinion, POA is just decent.

I think the tonal shift from #2 to #3 is what fans either love or hate. I remember watching the teaser for POA while watching Return of the King in late '03, and being so entranced.

The tonal shift doesn't bother me. I just don't think the movie itself is really anything to write home about.

I thought PoA provided a much needed shot in the arm to the series after a kind of listless and dull CoS. The cinematography, locations, set design, lighting, acting, directing, it was all much better than anything in either of the first two movies, IMO.

Not to mention Williams' score was more epic than usual. The scene where Harry rides Buckbeak's to Williams' score was pure tear-inducing magic.

Sorcerer's Stone, Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban are all excellent IMO.

I think it's fake. More like an Onion type thing.

Question for Harry Potter fans. In HBP, they introduce Liquid Luck. Why didn't they just brew up a bunch of it for the fight against Voldemort? Is it something that can only be done to an extent? Did the books reference something about it that I don't know about? Just curious about this.

Because then the whole story would not make sense. It's like asking why Gandalf did not flew Frodo to Mordor on one of the giant eagles.

IT makes sense, but the story must be thrilling. It's a fiction after all.

Luck only gets you so far. Also it is given as a prize Bya potion master. It'd be easy to just say it's extremely hard to make or that the ingredients are exceedingly rare.

Really though it'd just be a potion arms race with both sides dosing themselves for good luck.

I disagree. A writer has to be careful with the elements he/ she introduces in the story. The eagles thing is often brought up as a flaw in the lord of the rings trilogy, but that never made that much sense imao. Flying would have been just as dangerous, considering Sauron also had flying creatures under his command.

The flying thing in LOTR is explainable as the eagles were meant to take them further but Gandalf was unable to call them after the Balrog fight. Or maybe there was some kind of anti-air defenses up. Weak reasoning but the story would not be very interesting otherwise.

Just popping in to say that Cursed Child ain't ****. :o

You know I was thinking it's a real testament of this franchise when nobody can agree which is the best movie. It's not like where most SW fans agree ESB is the best one despite having other favorites, but here, I haven't seen one really pinned down as the best. I've heard the first two, the third, the fourth, the fifth, the second part of seven. I think the third is the best, but again, people will disagree with me which is great.

The entire film series never did anything for me.

Shout out to all the brothas and sistahs who got the same one line in all the movies, ''Harry, your goddamn owl is here!''..

That is an interesting way to look at it. I think DH2 is the best.

I'd rank

DH2
OotP
DH1
HBP
CS
GoF
SS
PoA

A lot of people stand behind Prisoner of Azkaban as the best. While I agree it's a good film, Goblet of Fire might actually be my favorite of the bunch. GOF, POA and Deathly Hallows Part 2 round out my top three.

The reason the eagles dont take them to Mount Doom is the eagles are the eyes and messengers of the chief god Manwe. They arent birds of burden. They are very proud and haughty. They only deign to help Gandalf 2 times because Gandalf has helped them before and because Gandalf is an Istari of Manwe.

Jackson foolishly didnt bother including any of this reasoning in the LOTR films. Wouldnt have been difficult. The eagles can speak in the books and easily could have discussed it with Gandalf when the eagle rescued him in FOTR. Or Gandalf could have explained why the eagles wont help during the Council of Elrond scene.

A lot of people do, but it isn't unanimous like ESB is to SW. That's a good thing in my book. That means they're not resting on their laurels. We need more franchises where there are so many great films in them people can't decide.
