My biggest concern going into this movie was how they would handle all of the Snape material and...well...they did it beautifully. What a fantastic series. I hope one day to be able to share this with my kids. I'm sure they'll tell me the FX look like **** compared to their modern 6D technology, but I'm sure they'll still like it.

Or you could just do what I do, which is don't go into the thread until you've seen the movie. The way I see it, before a movie comes out, spoiler tags should be used, but after it's released it's fair game.
I was talking about being spoiled from any source (when talking about me booking early tickets) like kids screaming it out on the street, not just the internet.

Here though, spoiler tags are only needed for the very biggest things like specific character deaths so it's not like it takes a second. If I accidentally ruined a film for one person out of hundreds who may read what I've written (even if through their own fault of looking at a thread on a film with a book that's been out a while), I'd be disappointed with myself. Btw I do do what you do :yay:

Anyway just my opinion...back to Potter.

It was fantastic. It feels sad to know there won't be any more. I started watching in my first year of high school, now I've graduated from uni, beaten reactive depression and found the job of my dreams in the time it took to finish it.

Was there something after the credits? I've heard rumours but I had to dash off to dinner after I saw HP

Just saw the movie, I liked it but I felt like they screwed up Harry and Voldemort's final confrontation.

can somebody explain a scene to me.. havent read any of the books and they barely went into it in the movie...

the flashback where severous and dumbledoore are talking and severous randomly whips out a patronous charm or w/e and the deer flies out the window and then cuts to a shot of harry seeing it in the forest...
was it to guide harry to the sword (which he put in the lake) if so how'd he know harry was near it.

and also when harry's in heaven or w/e and asks dumbledoore why he has his mothers deer charm thing...

In the books...

Lily's patronus was a doe. When you're in love with someone in HP world, your patronus can change to theirs. Snape was showing Dumbledore that his Patronus had changed to that of Harry's mom's, showing that he still was in love with her.

A patronus can be used as a messenger to seek someone out , even if you don't know where that someone is. Shacklebolt used it during the wedding in Part 1 to warn people that the minister had died. Snape used his patronus to show Harry where the sword had been hidden for him. Can't remember how Snape kept tabs on Harry though.

I had one of those parents who brought a baby which kept making noises for the first hour. I had to complain to management twice. When she was being led out she hollered "Whoever complained, that's just rude! He wasn't being THAT bad!" Me and another guy yelled back "Yes, he was!"

Hard to enjoy the emotion of the movie when a baby mumbles and makes noises during every quiet moment. If it can't walk or talk, leave it at home.

Give it time lol , it's inevitable.

I thought it was really good . I was worried the epilogue scene might look odd but they pulled it off convincingly.

Deathly Hallows compromises two films totaling 4.5 hours. Now imagine if Deathly Hallows was only ONE single two and a half hour film. You would feel completely cheated. So now you know how I feel about most of the other HP films.

Year 1: 8/10
Year 2: 8/10
Year 3: 9/10
Year 7: 10/10

The others are hastily cut films that remove massive chunks of the story that just barely get the point across, despite still being enjoyable. Deathly Hallows is a 700 page book that gets a sufficient 4.5 hours to be told on screen. Order of the Phoenix is an 800 page book that just barely gets two hours on screen. I'll never forgive them for that.

As for the Neville and Luna thing all I can really say is, poor Hannah!!! Then again she was never introduced in the movies anyway! :p

Finally saw the movie. Now, I never read the books. I have no idea how well the ending of books matched with the movie, but I was satisfied with the movie. I think it was able to explain most of what was going on effectively to those of us who didn't read the books, and I left the theater happy. I'll prob post more about it when I am not dead tired, LOL!

My only question:

Was Harry's invis cloak the 3rd deathly hallow item? They said an invis cloak was, but that never was explicitly stated in Part 1 or 2, and it didn't get resolution, while the other 2 deathly hallows items did.

Yes. It belonged to Ignotus Pevrell, whom harry is a (I think somewhat? or very) distant relative to.

It's all good!

But yes It was :oldrazz:

In Part 1- the tale of the three brothers.

I don't think It was ever explained in the books either - at least
Harry Being a realitive to the Pevrell's that is...
I think, it's been a while since I've read them.

My brother and I argued about that. He also hasn't read the books, and he thought I was wrong about that, LOL!

I am personally glad I just saw the movies first without reading the books. SS was my first exposure to the series, and before I made the choice that I wanted to read them, I had seen 5 movies. So, I just decided to wait it all out. I am also glad I avoided the major spoilers on DH from book release to seeing the movie. It made the movie more fun for me, since I got to theorize stuff. I will read them now, though. I wanted to finish the film series before starting them.

LOL I'm trying to recall the source...I'm pretty sure I read it at the PotterWiki...but its there :o :D

Can someone clarify to me just how the sword got in the lake in part 1?

Did Snape put it there? How did he know that's where Harry and Hermione were hiding?

...just need a little clarification.

Just saw the movie, I liked it but I felt like they screwed up Harry and Voldemort's final confrontation.

It was a lot more anti-climatic in the book. They at least improved by having Voldemort run around the castle chasing Harry.

When Snape killed Albus I absolutely hated him and couldn't wait for him to die in the final book. But before Hallows was released there was still numerous people swearing that Snape was somehow still good and JK would think of some elaborate plan to bring him back to light side. I shrugged off such an idea as total nonsense:o

Haha, that is terrific! The power of Potter:woot:

You never really thought that was possible? Essentially all of JK's plot points turn everything you think is true around, Snape being super evil is just her classic red herring.

My major gripe about about book 5 was how thye handled the prophecy. But as an adaptation it worked very well. It got the major important story points across. Sure they could've added in more character stuff but it still works very well.

Yes the sword was placed there by Snape for Harry to find it. Snape used his patronous doe to lead Harry to it. I forgot how Snape knew where they were though.

If there is any justice in life, please, PLEASE give Alan Rickman and oscar for his work here. Snape's memory scenes alone are worth it. I've seen it twice now and both times that scene was extremely powerful. The acting, editing, music, just everything was perfect about it. Literally perfect. [BLACKOUT]When he finds Lilly's body[/BLACKOUT]... just wow. I can't rave enough about that scene. I pray that Rickman gets some kind of acknowledgement for his work in this movie.

I loved as well how Voldemort was physically beating Harry around near the end, thought that was a nice touch. I thought Voldemort all around was more accurate to the books in the movie. He was much more violent, killing people at random, and especially that scene where he [BLACKOUT]kills all of those people at Gringotts[/BLACKOUT]. I love how violent it was.

Superb movie, for sure one of the best I've seen this year. I've got to mention again how good Snape's memory was. Totally floored me.

i thought the sword could just show up and travel to wherever the hell it wants... but only shows itself to those who earn it.. so how could snape take it and hide it?

The sword was always in possession of Dumbledore after book/movie 2. Snape gave the sword to Harry so he could use it to destroy the horcrux. When Neville needed it to kill Nagini it appeared for him, just like it did for Harry when he needed to kill the basilisk. The sorting hat belonged to Godric Gryffindor also, which is where the sword can magically be summoned.

In the book,
the trio had taken a portrait of Phineas Black, who was a former headmaster of Hogwarts. Because of this he could travel back and forth between that portrait, and that one in the headmasters office. Snape had Phineas go to that portrait and to report to him where they ewnt. Snape went to the forest and planted the sword there.

I don't remember how he knew where they were in the movie.

I really wish they did the snape scene in the shrieking shack. I woulda loved to see that place again
