I like the suit. Not the colour scheme, or the arms necessarily, but the premise. It makes perfect sense to me that a person with Peter's intelligence, lifestyle, and with his contacts in the MU, would eventually get himself a costume that makes his crime fighting safer and easier.
Why should he rely solely upon his webs, spider sense, and agility when he is good friends with the FF and particularly Reed Richards? He could have got a costume made of unstable molecules (at the least) which would have helped him with his super hero activities, years ago. In Daredevil: Guardian Devil, Matt Murdock is stopping a bad guy escaping in a car and it is noted that he has a costume made of unstable molecules to help his vigilantism, so why shouldn't Peter?
Now that he's an Avenger, and Tony's protege, it makes sense he should upgrade his costume, he might not have been able to do it on a photographer's/teacher's salary, but with Tony giving it him why would he refuse? Peter's an intelligent person, as intelligent as Batman, who regularly upgrades his costume and utility belt to reflect the types of villains he could face. If he is going to keep fighting crime surely Aunt May and MJ deserve the piece of mind that comes from knowing he has taken as much precaution as necessary before he swings out.
To me the costume just reflects the universe Peter lives in, it shows that he interacts with the characters that live there, and that he is a resourceful, and intelligent super hero.
