Between civil War, caps death, Spideys secret identity crisis, and other things, has marvel destroyed itself? If so, can they fix it?

No they haven't. The key phrases here are, "these events brought in sales" and "retcon if it backfires". Simple.

All of which have been extremely exciting and entertaining, so....no.

While I thought Civil War was an ugly mess that appealed to the lowest denominator it has paid off. The political/social landscape of the Marvel universe has really been energized.

I've not kept up with the Marvel superheroes, or even DC's. There were only 2 Marvel comics I consistently read: Amazing Spider-Man and Supreme Power. I stopped reading Spidey when he joined the New Avengers, and I stopped reading Supreme Power when I read about a planned cross-over with the Ultimate universe.

But that's rambling.

I thought Marvel screwed up or dropped the ball when their MAX imprint, which was supposed to have "stories for an adult audience" but consisted of nothing more than superhero comics that showed ****, blood, and swore. Marvel's version of Image comics from the 90s.

I would have preferred the MAX imprint to have taken after DC's Vertigo imprint- mature stories for adults that didn't have to rely on superpowers, capes and secret identities.

I guess I was asking too much

I think whoever's in charge of MAX knew they'd never be able to compete with Vertigo, so they didn't even bother trying.

That's a shame. Alias was brilliant.

No, Marvel hasn't screwed itself up. They're pushing in a bold new direction, and I'm proud of them for that. Certain books are seeing some of the best creative pushes they've ever had. Look at Thunderbolts and Captain America for example. I know people like the comfort of status quo, but sometimes you've gotta do something different.

I think marvel can fix things:

The Marvel U in my humblest of opinion is probably at it's strongest ever. Mostly due to the fact that they have really broadened their horizons. There's a book for everyone at this point cosmic/space comics, espionage/spy comics, magic comics, classic superhero battle comics, and then the X-Books, Avengers and Spidey titles are probably at their best in a long time. 3-5 years ago, a cosmic event like Annihilation would never have happened at Marvel. Things change, and for the better.

Agreed. The past two years from Marvel, i've read Superhero stories, Sci-Fi epics, Horror stories, Westerns, crime dramas, Sword & Sorcery, and romance books...

Marvel hasnt been this good since 1975.

Civil War was a bit of a mess, but the result has made for some interesting stories. So, if they did screw up, it was only a mild one.

Marvel has some hassles and missteps, but CW, execution aside, was a better event than HOM was, and WWH is shaping to be better than that. Unmaskings aside, the fertile ground left after CW has been better than it was before. The X-Line is messed beyond all repair so long as M-Day remains in play, Spidey Unmasked is a dead-end story point that will be reversed somewhat as Murdock's was recently. And it would be nice if after a year, Marvel could narrow down what the SHRA specifically entails and get it into a memo for their writers. But then you have ANNIHILATION, and massive investment of talent into the core MU universe after 15 years of letting it rot in favor of the X-Men.

Marvel has problems to fix, but I wouldn't say they're completely screwed up now. DC, on the other hand, is twisted in knots (IMO).

Nope, they still haven't recovered from Sins Past and the unmasking/CW was just fuel to the fire.

All I hear is praise for Sensational and the current arc on ASM. FNSM I don't hear anything from. It's the black sheep of the Spidey titles. So maybe you didn't like it or whatever, but Sins Past was almost if not 2 years ago, get over it. And people seemed to enjoy the CW ASM issues, except for the glaring continuity errors.:whatever:

I think Marvel's doing quite well, too. I don't agree with a lot of the choices certain creators have made, but I certainly can't deny that Marvel's comics have improved under Joe Q. Since nothing in comics is truly undoable, I don't even mind those bad choices some creators are making anymore. I'm content to just enjoy the good comics at Marvel and wait out the bad ones until new creators come onboard. Who'd have thought people would be so excited for a Hulk story, for example, when Bruce Jones was still running that title into the ground a couple years ago?

Which is why everyone loves the unmasking right?:cwink:

Btw-6666 post ftw!!!

Matt refuted the claim that he was Daredevil. Iron Fist then pretended to be Daredevil for a while. Murdock and DD were in different places at the same time, ergo Murdock couldn't be DD.

Vanessa Fisk had the FBI agent killed who made the arrest on Murdoch, made it look like a suicide, with a note stating that he set Matt up, that it was all a big farce......no-one ever seriously bought the 2 DDs explanation as most everyone assumed it was one of DD's friends trying to cover for him

Oh, well, I don't read Daredevil so what do I know?
sorta different situation from spidey though........
Peter could always just claim it was an elaborate hoax. For proof, Dr. Strange could magically make a sample of his blood totally normal and he could get someone else to appear as a fully powered Spider-Man. Or Dr. Strange could just make a Spider-Man illusion. Or Peter could fake his death or something. There are always ways to come back from anything in comics.
