Have You Ever Shop Lifted?

I've always wanted to. I'm a big music lover and used to work in the music section of a department store. I was in school at the time and used to come to work with my bookbag since I came straight from school.

Many nights I worked by myself and it was slow. I could have easily grabbed a CD off the shelf, walked to the back, and dumped it into my bookbag. No one would have ever noticed (until we did counts at the end of the week) but they couldn't have penned it on me.

Yet, I didn't have the balls to go through with it. Plus, I do have the money to buy it so it's not really a valid option.

My aunt who is cop here in Athens, has said one of the most annoying things she has dealt with is some teen fool that they catch shoplifting.

I used to work in a drug store--even more annoying are the adults. We had a woman set off the security alarm, insist that she had no idea why, then took a bottle of aspirin out of her purse and dropped on the floor. She honestly thought I didn't see it.

We had another guy who hid sunglasses in his daughter's stroller...technically he wasn't caught because it was possible they were left there by mistake. But he screamed at his 3-year-old for putting them in the stroller, when it was obvious he had put them there. He came back a little later, saying he wanted to buy the sunglasses and kept repeating over and over to us and his daughter how sorry he was that he yelled at her. He was so pathetic.

Then there were the ones who tried to make a run for it. We weren't allowed to chase, but I tried to call a guy back into the store and he ignored me (shoplifters go deaf a lot), suddenly an off-duty cop jumped out of his car, screamed at the guy to get back in the store while flashing his badge, and even called backup for us. True story.

I used to steal a ton of stuff. When my friends started using me to steal things for them, I stopped. Plus I was getting to the point where I cared about my future and had things to lose. Not worth it anymore.

Biggest thing was probably a 3' light up Dairy Queen sign, but I'm not sure that counts as it was on the ground at the side of the store and I'm pretty sure they were throwing it away. I should get that up and running sometime.

Yes, only small stuff on a handful of occassions and not in a long time. When I was about five or so I stole a pack of batteries from a store. My parents caught me and made me take them back(how embarassing.)

To be honest with you though, I think it's good for evryone to shop lift a little something every once in a blue moon. Keep that aspect of your life sharp, the aspect that you don't need the dead presidents to get something in life. I wouldn't recommend living by that motto though. Like I said, once in a blue moon just to keep that aspect sharp.

You inspired me to make this thread. :woot: :oldrazz:

My first job I worked in a movie/game store. The pay was low, the people I worked with were jerks, and I was the only one who worked. I worked there for 2 1/2 years and never called in sick or said I couldn't come to work. Every time I was scheduled to work I did. So coworkers started to take advantage of that. So I would give myself "privileges" and take advantage of them. A friend would come in, I'd tell him to get a game or dvd for me and he would pose as buying it and since I was the one ringing it up, I'd charge myself half price for it or something. I only did it a few times. But it helped me out A LOT. As time moved on and i got more sick of the place I did it more. The place was run like ****. We were one of the worst stores in the state. Mainly because we never had a manger. They'd always quit and leave someone who didn't want to work there in charge. So before you know it I'd take tons of stuff and give discounts to my friends. I think I made that store single handedly lose a few grand. Then I quit. And it's now out of business. Shame.

What was the name of the place? That sounds really crappy. At least you did your part.

Well, it was called Recordtown at the time, but I think they're all called F.Y.E now.

I went on a binge shoplifting. One day some friends and I were at the mall and we compulsively stole nearly a thousand dollars of merchandise. I haven't done it since and I don't think I ever will again.

Since I was a kid I've always had the compulsion to do something illegal at random moments. Usually I go about it in an unpredictable manner. I'd do it for the thrill of doing something and not getting caught, and to disturb the daily routine. I'd destroy anything, or steal anything (and a lot of times discard it) when I was younger, just for fun. Don't do it any more though.

I'm pretty sure this doesn't count as shoplifting, but back in high school me and a couple of my friends won a bag of cofee beans at a raffle [weird, i know]. None of us had a coffee maker, so we went down to the mall, asked McDonalds for a coffee filter, and a water cup, and went down to Sears. They had a rack of display ones, so we grabbed one, plugged it in, threw in the coffee and left for about a half an hour. Had oursleves a cup of coffee.

I did steal out of intellectual curiosity once, actually buying some things and stealing others when I went shopping when I was 12. I left the store and then walked back and put everything I stole (candy bars) back near the entrance.

I was curious to know if it was easy and really I must say it was not difficult. However, I was privelaged enough to never have had to steal to get things.

Ah,the life of royalty.

That's sad. But what's also sad is I see just about every other movie/music/game store out there, is run by snotty teens that don't give a damn if they're there or not.

i used to shoplift all the time. it was like, a compulsion. everything, too. clothes, food, drinks, cd's, movies, games... anything, really... then i got caught one time, at jc penny's, and i quit for a while, then started again for a while, got caught again, then quit for good.

i do still pocket the occasional chapstick or small stuff like that, though. just to curb the craving. i guess i'm a kleptomaniac.

I never have.
I've thought about it, and I've wanted to on several occasions, but I'm to paranoid of being caught. Knowing me I would probably be so paranoid I would do something obvious and blow it, so i just use my will power and refrain.

I've shoplifted a lot. Only got caught twice but never arrested either time. I 've slowed down recently.

That's how my friend is. He does it all the time, for everything. He never gets caught, either.

I stole 40 bucks from my dad when I was six, I also stole one of my buddies Transformers (MEGATRON) when I was six. Ever since, no, I haven't lol.

when i was younger (19,20 yrs old) i was really struggling to keep the lights on and all that, so i would take food from the deli/liquor store i worked at. I didnt really make much money and i already had 2 jobs and supported a loser slug of an ex. So stealing food and household items was how i made ends meet.

I try & eat a sandwich & not pay for it every time I go food shopping for the month. It's like a game. I always end up with a full trolley of food so I figure they won't miss the sandwich. If any of my friends ever come with me they play too. Good stuff.

I've stolen twice in my life. The first time, I was seven years old and I stole a ring pop from a drug store. My mom found out and took me to pay for it the next day. Slap on the wrist, never did that again.

The second time was a bit more interesting, even though it's not shoplifting, it was kind of stealing from the government. A couple of months ago, my friends and I were driving around at one in the morning. We passed by a huge banner in front of town hall that read "HILLARY CLINTON '08". My friend pulled over and two of us ran out to get the banner, rolled it up, and put it in the car. We then threw it in a river. Throwing it in the river wasn't my idea. I wanted to spray paint Obama over it, but I was outvoted. Still, fun times. :o

Sure. Lots of times.

The best one was getting away with stealing a 10 foot banner for The Dark Knight.
