There's not many things that can make me want to read GRRM to feel positive about life, but Berserk is one of them.

Been wanting to read Berserk for a while, is the writting that good? If it was a live action tv show how would it compare to Game of Thrones?

Well, if they did three seasons of live action Berserk based on the Golden Age story arc, I'd say it'd nearly be on par with these three seasons of GoT.

The pace of the story does slow down quite a bit in the later volumes though, it doesn't progress as much. But outside of that, tonally it's on GRRM's level. If anything I'd call it the Song of Ice and Fire of Manga/Anime, it's that same level of unflinching cruelty, and has a similar progression from Low-Fantasy to High-Fantasy as this series does.

To be fair, there are a lot of good mangas with that quality that also end up with a snails pace, Vagabond i remember was pretty good, Hunter X Hunter kind of reminds me of Game of Thrones in a way, it takes the usual tropes associated with battle mangas (in GoT's case, it took the fantasy genre) and twists it into a more realistic and mean world, as long as a tighter writting where each character is fleshed out and the universe is complex.

Another thing i see both having in common is that both writers can sometimes be incredibly lazy, HxH takes multiple long hiatuses, and both of them had a tv show adaptation that started in 2011 and is in trouble of catching up with the story, which doesn't seem close to ending in neither case.

He probably wouldn't need to tell the makers of his show important things from the ending either, neither would he need to drop so many bones to the fans with these preview chapters

I find the characters in Berserk, Guts and co, similar to Abercrombie's characters. The type of fantasy and setting are reminiscent of A Song of Ice and Fire.

I know, i was mentioning that fact because in the west adaptations are done differently and the writers usually tell the crew that is adapting it some of the key elements. In Japan they sometimes barelly talk with the adaptation crew.

Honestly, the Game of Thrones thread is the last place i would expect people to be talking about Anime/ Manga, you guys should go to that section more.
