HBO's Game of Thrones - - Part 16

Seems like the better match would have been Brienne against the Mountain since she did technically beat Jamie...even though he was handcuffed.

It seems the big showdown that's ultimately being built towards could be Arya VS The Mountain.... though Arya will have to get a lot better at fighting first!

I don't think so. Seems like it would be a boring battle and that would be over quick. They both move slow and I can't see her beating the Mountain. If the Red Viper didn't have an ulterior motive, he'd have killed him easily. He was on his back not moving. All he needed to do was jam the spear through his head.

Perhaps, but I figured he wasn't moving because he knew Oberyn would make that mistake. Not sure what the Westerosi equivalent of a possum is.

I still liked the original Mountain better, considering he was supposed to be older than the Hound. Anyone know why he recast though?

This is actually the third time he has been recast. I would assume they wanted someone who would be more physically terrifying.

There's conflicting reports, but he's gotten Stunt roles like Bolg in Hobbit movies and he was Goliath in Bible and he played Thor in a really awesome so-bad-so-good movie Vikingdom.

It's too bad we'll never get to see Jaime (with his good hand) fighting the Mountain.

Jaime is the best swordsmen in Westeros during the first book. He could take the Mountain.

Nah, he was beaten. Had the Viper merely wanted to kill him there is nothing the Mountain could have done.

Oh, Gregor Clegane.... [blackout]knowing what's coming your way[/blackout] pleases me to no end.

I don't know what happens in the books, but knowing Game of Thrones so far, the most shocking, surprising thing to happen this whole season would be if Sansa and Arya actually got reunited and the Starks were allowed one moment of genuine happiness.

Enjoy.

My response to that would be. "You know you are going to keep watching so just shut up."

Yeah, I just saw that, this was the actor that played him in season 2 but I don't think they even acknowledged in the show that the guy was supposed to be the Mountain, nor does he look like what I imagine the mountain would be.

But, I agree the new actor is physically most intimidating.

Lol is he suppose to be a ginger in the movie?

Anyone else feel Oberyn and his family serve as a strong foil to the Starks and the feud with the Lannisters? Because I actually love the way GRRM basically flipped most of the Starks' traits to create Oberyn and the Martells. There's more differences than just that, but look at it:

Dorne and the North are the two most unassimilated kingdoms in Westeros, but are opposites of each other: Dorne, as the southernmost kingdom, is geographically tiny, descended from different stock than the rest of the kingdoms, maintained its sovereignty against the Targs through guerrilla warfare (Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken), and is really only linked by a Targ marriage pact and a common religious affiliation with. Reputation for much looser social mores and behavior, while the North is geographically huge, had the only kingdom to surrender without a fight ("the king who knelt"), is the last follower of the original religion, and has a stark (pardon the pun) reference for honor and traditional mores.

Meanwhile, let's look at the generations of the Starks and Martells: Ned was the second born son who led his family against the Targs after losing his brother and father and wound up losing his sister in the aftermath, while Prince Doran was a Targ loyalist who lost his sister to the war, then his younger brother years later in the aftermath. And their kids? The Starks are famous as a large, badass family of legitimate children and a single somber bastard. The Martells have more Sands than anything else, and from what Oberyn said about his young ones, their pretty assertive and accepted.

And even closer, at Ned and Oberyn; Ned's the traditionalist stoic reluctantly dragged to King's Landing largely trying to defuse the situation who gets killed because of his compassion and treachery (Specifically, Cersei failing to stop Joffrey) from the ruling Lannisters, while Oberyn is the free spirited party animal enthusiastic about getting a chance to confront the Lannisters in "this stinking city," whose overconfidence and vengefulness gets him killed in a perfectly legal way (Specifically, the machinations of Cersie when Tywin chooses to let her go rabid).

It's like GRRM intentionally wanted to say "It's not just the intrinsic traits of the Starks that got them against the Lannisters. The Lions are just that big of *****es. See? Here's everything the Starks aren't, and with Lord Tywin in control of the situation and in actual need of their support, and they still screw them over."

Awesome!
The guy obviously had a blast bringing this character to life (even if it only lasted an instant, then ... head explody!)

He's wearing the shades cause his eyes are still pressed into the back of his skull.:funny:

If Oberyn had been killed by THAT guy, I would have been pissed.

BTS of the fight scene:

Wonder if Cersei has forgotten who is looking after her beloved daughter in Dorne.

Is Cersei being a shortsighted, cruel-minded idiot really a surprise to anyone here?

By this stage, she's acting like she's glad Joffrey got killed off because it's finally given her a good justification to stick it to Tyrion.
