Brad Pitt with Ed Norton or Casey Affleck would be great.

Michael Pitt and Ryan Gosling reunion would be another great pairing.

I'd be good with any of these.

Brad Pitt seems likely. It's a pretty old rumor, but it seems to be a pretty consistent one.

Hopefully we get a good female lead.

If they're sticking with the female detective, I'd say they should hire Anne Hathaway for the role. If it's another male detective, I'd say hire Michael Shannon for the role. On top of that, they should get his Take Shelter and Mud director, Jeff Nichols, to direct this season, I think that it could very well top this amazing first season if they hire this great, up-and-coming director.

One thing I don't understand is why do the fans think that season 2 will have 2 detectives, what if it just featured Brad Pitt or another actor?

The flimsy precedent of the first season? It doesn't have to be two detectives though. It can be one person, or it can be an entire squad, although that would be ridiculous to manage. I don't think they would do more than three at once though and only because I think having four or more makes it a mess to keep up with in such a short season to divide screen time between.

Norton would work as the detective too. Or Freeman AND Norton as the detectives with David Fincher directing. Sounds like there's only going to be one detective though.
