The only acceptable True Detective S2 leads:

Goldblum would be pretty sweet

but how about making him the killer/suspect the detectives are after

I kinda think I'd like Keaton to be the killer more but seeing Goldblum as a psycho would be great too

I have heard rumors about Brad Pitt being considered, I really hope that is true and he takes it as he will be amazing.

Pizzolatto reveals more details when he was a guest at a podcast. The new season will have three leads and and will take place in California.

Dropping by To The Best Of Our Knowledge podcast, he revealed the setting of the show and a new tidbit about the characters driving the next mystery. “Right now, we’re working with three leads. It takes place in California. Not Los Angeles, but some of the lesser known venues of California and we’re going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambience of the place, much like we did with season one," Pizzolatto said.

"The characters are all new, but I am deeply in love with all of them," he continued. "We have the entire season broken out, and I have a couple of scripts, and we’ll probably start casting within the coming month."

Yea now they're saying there's going to be 3 leads for this season

Bring back Woody, add Wesley Snipes and Jennifer Lopez. It will be like Money Train all over again. What could possibly go wrong? :o

Jake Gyllenhaal, Robert Downey Jr., and Mark Ruffalo...

This sounds way too good to be true but damn... imagine Bale and Phoenix together. I don't think I'll survive that epicness. :wow:

The True Detective follow-up season has become the TV equivalent of the latest Star Wars sequel, with closely guarded and wildly speculated about script and casting process. The HBO series’ creator Nic Pizzolatto has dropped a few more hints, confirming with NPR program To The Best Of Our Knowledge that Season 2 of the crime thriller will have three leads. Unofficial breakdowns floated around have listed the three leads as a fortysomething male detective/cop with Joaquin Phoenix, Christian Bale and Josh Brolin as prototypes, a twentysomething male cop and a thirtysomething female detective, with Jessica Chastain as a potential prototype. Following the tour de force performances of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson last season, Season 2 casting rumors have been swirling, with a number of A-listers bandied about. After early speculation about Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett, the rumor mill in the past few weeks focused on Bale, Phoenix and Brolin as well as The Normal Heart star Taylor Kitsch for the other male lead and Chastain. (The actress, who had been approached, recently confirmed that she won’t be doing the series.) While rumors are reaching fever pitch, actual casting may be a ways away, according to Pizzolatto. “The characters are all new, but I’m deeply in love with each of them,” he told the NPR show. “We’ve got the entire series broken out with a couple of scripts, and we’ll probably start casting in earnest in the coming months.”
As for the setting of Season 2, “it takes place in California — not Los Angeles but some of the much lesser-known venues of California — and we’re going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambiance of the place, much like we did in Season 1,” said Pizzolatto, who set the freshman year in his native Louisiana. He previously had told HitFix that the new season of True Detective would be about “hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system.”

Okay, how in the hell are these professional outlets taking Pizzolatto's joke literally?

So I'm way late to the party, but I finally watched the rest of this show yesterday (binge-watching TV is about the only advantage of sick days...). I had watched the first two episodes as they came out, but I didn't stick with it at the time because I was keeping up with too many other shows to fit it in my regular schedule. Anyway, here are a few scattered thoughts.

Overall, I really enjoyed the show, especially once things really started moving along in Episode 4. As others have said, that long tracking shot of the escape was mesmerizing and one of the best sequences I've ever seen on TV (or maybe even film). Speaking of mesmerizing, McConaughey & Harrelson are incredible here and deserve any awards that come their way.

If I have any gripe with the show, it's with some of the visuals. Not that any of them are bad because that would be a lie - everything is shot brilliantly. My issue is that there were a handful of times I'd see certain shots & think "Man, that looks really nice & it's beautiful, but it's so... unnecessary." At times I felt like Fukunaga was just hitting me over the head with imagery that went "LOOK AT HOW GOOD OF A DIRECTOR I AM" and it just didn't add anything other than, "Oh, that's pretty." Again, that's a minor quibble in the grand scheme of things, since I really enjoyed the acting & writing of the entire arc. And really, the visuals did add a lot to the show - the way the scenes in Carcosa were shot during the finale really added to the suspense & feeling of dread. I'm not huge on the suspense genre, but man did Fukunaga nail those shots with all the tunnels & crazy settings there.

Minor gripes against certain visuals I felt were unnecessary, I thought this was some of the best TV I've watched in a while. Excellent pacing, casting, acting & direction really made this one of the more complete packages on TV we've ever seen. Not saying it's a "greatest of all time," but it's easily one of the best this year.

Two detectives and the criminal they are chasing? I don't know how they might present this one differently.

Maybe...

One detective in the past chasing the same criminal and a detective in the present day chasing the same criminal?

Yea it's probably in different eras cuz he's stated that its about conspiracies spanning like 40 years or something

I haven't read anything that stated it will take place over 40 years, especially since most of the names are not in their 40's yet or just into them.

DeHaan isn't bad.

He just needs a bit more experience before he gets attached to something like True Detective.

There are not a lot of well known 20 something actors with emotional range and acting credibility. Maybe they want Shia? :oldrazz:

I wonder if they'll get an actor in his early 30s for the 20 something cop?

Freeman. Norton. Pitt.

With Freeman & Norton as the detectives, being the awesome narrators they are, narrating what's going on. One in the past and the other in the present. Pitt as the criminal. :hubba

Just say no to Shia. That is almost as bad as casting Channing for Gambit. :(

He said it will have to do with conspiracies in the southern California government spanning the last 40 years. Or it might have been 60. Can't remember. I mean, season 1 spanned 3 decades. Not sure why season 2 can't go further with it

I would love for Bale to be cast as the criminal in this, or even a detective. My Lord, could you imagine???

When's the Bluray hit and what goodies are we getting with it?
