HBO's True Detective - Part 1

Kitsch is pretty much where we saw McConaughey before his huge comeback: We only just looked at his recent string of bad choices and discounted the talent that is actually there. Even Farrell too who is in some excellent movies yet is talented. I'm not saying one can't criticize these choices, but just look at past history and see how it' snot unreasonable that these two can do great.

I'm not worried at all. If anything this could be their best performances to date.
I am afraid to get my hopes up, I'd love to see this pair! ...or at least my boy Taylor anyhow. I think he would do very well here. :)

The Bang Bang Club not good? Lone Survivor not good? The Normal Heart not good?
I know, right? Taylor was great in all of those. Not to mention Savages. :D

i like both Colin & Taylor. Taylor gets a lot of unwarranted flack thrown at him because of the movies he's been in but he's not a bad actor. True Detective will help out a lot for him career wise.

but as someone had already mentioned, it does seem like a downgrade from Woody & Matt as both guys set the bar real high

Colin Farrell would be great if he's on his game not sure about the other guy though.

Weren't we meant to be getting a female co lead this season as well?

It's going to be hard no matter who they cast. How can you even come close to that first season? It blew everything out of the water. :)

I wanted to say Savages because he is great in it, but since some hated Savages, I didn't name it ^^

I loved Savages and everyone in it. It certainly was the best thing I ever saw Aaron Johnson in.

Watched Savages not too long ago. They were good in it definitely but I found the film to be way too long and kinda boring at times

Did anyone even see Lone Survivor?

Kitch's best role...I think its a good move, clearly Farell will be the MM type lead.

I am ok with both choices, although I would have loved me some Chastain

I thought it was quite good. I'm not sure I've seen Walberg in anything that sucked.

Lone Survivor was awesome and if you really need proof of Kitsch as an actor just watch FNL.

So, are there going to be two detectives for this season, presumably both women?

Colin Farrell was great in Seven Psychopaths. I can see him fitting in really well with the tone of the show.

Yup, so was Christopher Walken. There's another guy who would do well on a show like this. :D

ah, colin farrell, if this were 2003 i would be so excited... now, not so much.

Farrell's done his best work in the last few years. In Bruges, Seven Psychopaths, Fright Night, London Boulevard, Saving Mr Banks.

Rewatched episode 4 last night and man the unbroken shot through the projects, honestly up there and beyond almost any scene that has probably ever been on tv before.

Purely cinematic.

That was all Cary Fukinaga as well, which is why i think the director/s they get for season 2 will almost be as important as who's cast in the leads.

There will be multiple directors though so, let's just hope they manage to get like two directors tops, so there can be some consistency, having one director helming the whole first season is one of the things that made it as great as it is.

One of my fave directors that I'd love to see take a crack at it would be Jeff Nichols, but it seems like season 2 is going to be more urban based, he would"ve been a great fit for season 1.

It's kinda what makes me worried about season 2, to be able to recapture the magic is not gonna be easy considering how high the bar has been set.

Where was this talk of William Friedkin possibly directing? Because that would be absolutely badass.
