Give him a break guys...if I watch a first episode of a show and don't enjoy it, I often won't watch the next episode. If the show isn't giving me a reason to keep watching, why keep watching?

That said...I thought this episode was pretty good. The characters didn't hook me the way the first season's did...at the moment they are just a pack of depressed people that I don't really care about. But, I did like it enough to see if the next few episodes really hook me.

I really liked that first episode. McAdams and Farrell's characters are the most intriguing to me so far, but it seems like everyone is equally messed up in one way or another.

I almost choked when I saw David Morse with that wig on and Ritchie 'Chechen' Coster as the Major was a nice surprise too.

Farrell, father of the year.

Yeah, that line + brass knuckles... jesus christ.

Solid premiere. I'm hooked and I'm enjoying the whole new vibe. The intro song was an interesting choice to set the tone but I think it worked for me.

And my god that last shot to close the episode was ****ing cool.

I gave a perfectly logical excuse for giving up on the season. The first episode was lousy (acting, writing, direction, all of the above) and I'm not throwing money down the drain in hopes that it improves.

the murder victim... eyes melted by acid... penis cut off... chillin at a picnic table... then drunkards Farrell and McAdams show up with the ******* king Kitsch... good ending... Like Sawyer said, it should have been maybe 10 minutes sooner and have a bit more between them to start the season... I was digging Vince and Farrell though

See the thing is while I really didn't enjoy this episode I loved the first season enough that I probably would continue watching if not for the fact that this was literally the only reason I kept my subscription past last Sunday. Probably should have just mentioned that from the start.

i said it from the beginning, i think Vince is going to steal the show.

anyone else notice Farrells red head kid... and Vince's lady... red headed..

oh and "executive producer Woody Harrelson" :funny:

not a bad premiere but it was too slow. the ending set up is very promising though. you know, i never really thought much of Colin Farrell as an actor but i gotta say he did an excellent job here.

anyone else find it hilarious when he beat up on that one kid's dad?

So it not just with a murder but corruption? organized crime and criminal enterprise? and only 7 episode to do all this..

10 minutes sooner? Pssh. It should've been 10 minutes into the episode IMO.

well i appreciated the character buildup in solo fashion... excluding Vince and Colin, which is just going to own ass all season.

Farrell, father of the year.

That was the best moment of the episode lol. And on Father's Day to boot. :hehe:

They established at the start with the lawyer scene that Velcoro's son was born from his wife being raped but he still tried to raise the kid as his own. Frank Semyon helped him find the guy for revenge and that's how he ended up on his payroll.

Anyway I really enjoyed the first episode. Screw those critics, sometimes you have to take what they say with a grain of salt. I'm really into all the characters, Kitsch's Woodrugh especially. Vaughn's character was slightly underwhelming but I suppose that's the point. He's a former mobster that's lost his balls a little trying to go legit and people are taking advantage of him. I'm sure that his vicious side will surface soon.

Visually, if I didn't know Justin Lin directed this and you told me he did, I wouldn't believe you. S2 is completely different than S1, but it has the same feel. The script is slightly more polished here, it lacks the grit that was in S1 but it still all works so far.

All in all, I'm pretty happy with the quality and am excited for the this season.

I wonder what age Farrell's Ray and Vaughn's Frank are supposed to be? I'm assuming late 40's for both but Ray's habits wearing him down a little quicker.

What did you guys think of McAdams?

Im reading a really mixed response about her.

From what Ive seen: people like Vaughn and Ferrell, lukewarm on McAdams and don't like Kitsch

I mean Vaughn could've been lying.
THe rapist could've been his assistant. But we haven't seen his wife yet.

It took me a while to fully wrap my head around it. I'm just so used to season one's format and characters, setting and tone. Not that I didn't like it, it just felt so weird just how different this season is. It's one thing to actually know it going in, but to see it is another thing. Plus I just rewatched season one before the premiere so that probably contributed to it.

But my head has been swimming. I do love it. It's L.A. Confidential meets True Detective. I loved how this episode was the opposite of season one's first episode. The body is discovered at the end of it instead of the beginning. Ani shuts down Elvis in the car when asking her to open up, Pizzalotto telling us that this isn't a Rust/Marty relationship.

I just loved seeing these characters in their own little worlds before meeting up by the end. And all of them are so ****ed up. Ani and Ray showed up drunk for God's sake. An interesting note from one review mentioned how when the three eye each other it's less of a look of meeting and more of a look of pre-knowledge. Perhaps these three people aren't strangers after all. I don't know where the hell this show is going and I love that.

Also there seems to be a surreal element to it. Did anyone notice that crow's head next to Casper? And the naked woman floating in milk that Ray saw?

first episode was really weak. they're trying to follow too many characters that none of them are getting their proper attention, including the story itself.

The "Aspen? That's a boy's name?" bit made me laugh out loud :funny:

First episode didn't hook me but I didn't dislike it either. Guess I will see how it goes.
