Drama HBO's True Detective - Part 3

………… excuse me.
Yep. The whole thing boiling down to a literal sister ****ing hillbilly is so lazy it was painful to watch and Rust "seeing the light" was so laughably out of character I wouldn't be surprised if it was mandated by McConaughey because he's a "believer."

Cool. Nice to have a premiere date. For now, anyway.

I kind of hope this is the last season of True Detective. I've enjoyed all of the seasons- even Season 2- but it feels like there's always a gap between season. More than that, while I liked Seasons 1 to 3, it doesn't seem like Season 2 and 3 have recached the heights of notoriety and popularity that Season 1 had. I think part of that is because none of the leads have been able to really capture the chemistry that Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey had.

Now if we got a Season 5 and beyond, I'm gonna watch it. These seasons are so standalone that you can practically jump in at any season and be fine. But I wouldn't mind if this was the last season.

The new season is at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with 24 reviews currently. Really optimistic for this season.

Dang this makes me wanna finish season one before this one.

I enjoyed it so far, but them episodes be heavy.

I wasn't interested in this before but the reviews are piquing my curiosity. I'll probably check it out, especially since there isn't much else on HBO right now anyway.

Yeah I have this recorded on my dvr so I’m going to check it out. I followed the first season all the way through when it aired and watch the second season on and off but I pretty much got disinterested after that season so I skipped season three despite it receiving a better reception than the previous season. So the reviews have me interested in watching this.

I finally got to watch s3 looking forward to S4

only miss was s2 imo

Season 2 is the only one I didn't finish. I thought S3 was alright but S1 set such an impossibly high standard.
Absolutely. I like all of the leads in Season 2, and I like how Season 3 brought it back to basics with just two leads- across three different times- but yeah. Even if Season 4 turns out to be great, it's almost unfair because Season 1 is on an entirely different tier that I don't think any subsequent season will ever touch it.

I will say this about True Detective S2: Colin Farrell had the absolute greatest line in the show when he confronted his son's bully. For obvious reasons it can't be repeated here. :o

Pretty good premiere. Hoping to get more of Danvers and Navarro scenes if just because the chemistry between the leads is part of what makes True Detective such a solid watch. Very good tension at the start with the scenes at the research facility and it's nice that both Danvers and Navarro have history with this previous case, given its connection to the current one.

Bit disjointed of a premiere, weakest since the S2 premiere - a lot (too much stuff and too many characters) introduced like that season. S1 and S3 starts were more instantly digestible.

I liked it well enough. Nothing will ever come close to S1, but this is just an opener. :) Great cast, I'm loving everyone. :D

Waiting to start this til episode 2 comes out, so I can know right away whether I will be hooked or repulsed. :oldrazz:

An intriguing first episode (though with a number of familiar story elements). Some have mentioned a kind of X-Files vibe.

I was curious about the word “tsalal” — the name of the arctic research station. Apparently, it’s ancient Hebrew for “to be, or become, or grow dark.” And among the first to use the word in a popular context was EA Poe in his novel The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket. This novel, in turn, was inspiration for Lovecraft’s At the Mountains of Madness.

I suppose the supernatural might be part of the narrative. Or, what appears to be “supernatural” might turn out to be personal visions/madness brought about by…? We shall see.
