I disagree the perma-white skins is one of the reason he became who he is.

It is the MAIN reason that he is the way he is. His permanent disfiguring is the ultimate contributor to his psyche and persona.

You trying to tell me that if he wasn't a permawhite clown in the comic books, he'd have adapted a Joker persona?

Wasn't he having some kind of nervous breakdown with the money problem, being a failed comedian, the death of his wife & unborn baby, etc.?

Yes......and?

While he might have gone insane from the chemical bath, but I think the other problem before done that more than the perma-white skins.

If you saw him after he got the news of his wife's death in TKJ, and was still forced to do the Red Hood job, he was still quite sane. He was just really mopey and brooding over his wife.

But he had not lost his marbles or gone thru any kind of dramatic change in personality. Like I said, it was his disfiguring that was the ultimate contributor to his fall into insanity.

But for all we know, it might not be why he went insane in the first place. In fact, his origin in TKJ might not be true. After all, he said "Sometimes I remember it one way, sometimes another... If I’m going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice.".

I know that. That's why I mentioned his numerous origins above. Even ones where he was a criminal beforehand, he was not insane with any kind of comedic or clown theme in his crimes.

And Two-Face didn't became who he was just because he was scarred. He was starting to have a little bit of the evil personality before he was scarred.

What evil personality? You're not talking about the BTAS origin, are you?

It wasn't until he was scarred, that his evil personality is free & he became Two-Face. It just like normal people who are scarred.

So, you're saying without getting disfigured, he would not have become Two Face?

That's exactly what I'm saying. You think it would be the same if Harvey Dent applied fake scarring onto half his face in the movie?

Just for the record, I'm not against Joker wearing make up in TDK. But, there's no question that it is the MAIN reason why he is the way he is in the comic books.

Same as Dent's disfigurement.

well all valid points, but the acid bath story has been done so many times, i think its nice to see a new take on the joker, there are many other thigns that can drive someone crazy besides a disfiguring accident

Movie wise, it's only been done once. That's because it is a staple trait of the character.

I mean you could argue we've already seen Batman lose his parents, why did they do it again in BB? There's other reasons why someone could want to execute justice in a corrupt city.

As I said, I'm not against a make up applying Joker. But, I'd prefer him to be perma-white, myself.

I wonder will we be told what did it for Joker in TDK. Because according to Chris Nolan, Joker's not getting an origin.

didnt he say there was a bit of an origin, but not much to it? i think it was the harvey dent back bone article.

Did he? I read an interview with him saying that Joker's an absolute in the movie. What we see is the rise of Joker, not his creation.

yea but didnt he....nevermind, forget about it, i dont have sufficient proof. i guess we'll just have to wait and see.

one thing is certain, these figures will kick the crap out of those spiderman 3 "ML" type figures by hasbro. so dissapointing, especially sandman.

also, im confused as to which version of this batman it is:

^ this batman figure looks like the movie masters one, the 6 inch one. but then the pic they show of what i guess is the same figure looks like this:

the detail is also better on the first batman fig pic i posted. it has the grey highlights in the "bra" area, while the pic above has no grey area, and doesnt look nearly as detailed.

then of course there is the photo on the 2nd page with the 5 inch joker on it:

im not sure if ALL these are the same figure or what. im so confused!

My opinion is that Nolan has gotten carried away with the surface texture. I'm sure he's trying to put more emphasis on the 'knight' part of Dark Knight but I don't really think making him look even more like a medieval sword slinger from King Arthur's Court is really the way to go.

I'll still go see the movie and probably love it but I wish he'd get over the 'armour' kick. Tone it down, man. You can still do the armour just downplay it some. We get it. He's protected.

You're right Joker, then again you usually are:joker:

We've seen Bruce's origin on screen more times than we've seen Joker's. I'm sure there are more things that can turn a man to wearing tights and a cape than getting your parents killed.

Why would Nolan do that again?

we can argue this till the cows come home. we can all have our opions and theories and ideas, but all it really breaks down to is the joker is one of the greatest villains of all time, and his origin is a mystery even to him, thats the way bob kane wanted it.

True. I don't mind him being perma-white, but we already got that many times. That why I'm open to the idea of the makeup. Give it a fresh & new take on Joker.

And that cool you're for him with makeup too, Joker. I just always see his origin as something that might happend or not with how insane he is in TKJ. And that his insanity from many things beside the skins. I guess you can say the perma-white skins was the last straw for him that drove him insane. :joker:

That's a silly agrument, and we all know that Batman's origin will probably remain the same forever, in one way or another.

But conversely, before Nolan, I believe Joker has always had chalk white skin....

OH NOz!! We're about to descend into Teh Perma-white debate!

Every thread eventually does it.

And, besides, I don't understand why permawhite means we need some big long origin story. Why can't he just show up with the complexion of a corpse, and have the other characters simply speculating as to why?

Isn't that more mysterious than a man in makeup, which, really, is self-explanatory? I mean, you could wonder why he wears makeup, but, it just kind of boils down to "cuz he feels like it".

I didn't really like their choice of wording, "Heath Ledger lives on at evil 6-inch figure"

And I don't mean to sound paranoid but would parents want their children playing with these Joker figures? I mean it says the figure even includes knives.
