The Superman sequel "Man of Steel 2" also isn't coming anytime soon, if at all. Roven says there's no script but "various story ideas" are being kicked around.

SMH. They're doing Cavill dirty. Guy was cast in his late 20s in this role. And dude might even reach 40 by the time a sequel comes...if at all.

This makes me feel very pessimistic about the chances of another solo Superman outing for Cavill.

Well to be fair, superman has appeared in 3 films in the span of 6 years so it isn't like he has been forgotten. It was just bad timing that his films had to be used to help enlarge the DC universe.

If audiences warm back up to Superman after JL, I can see the studio getting a writer to pen a draft for a proper MOS sequel.

It'd be a terrible waste if Cavill kept playing Superman as a supporting role in potential JL sequels and Flashpoint. The dude has charisma and a fantastic Superman, imagine how good a MOS sequel can be if you have a director who appreciates the source material.

If I had to guess, this will all probably play out very similarly to Chris Hemsworth and his Thor films. We'll be waiting awhile for the next solo Superman film, but when it comes, Cavill will get his "Thor: Ragnarok" and rejuvenate interest in the character.

I'm actually more concerned about Amy Adams not returning as Lois than I am about Cavill.

You can thank Zack Snyder for knocking the wind out the character's sails and more importantly WB for letting him do it. With that being said, this doesn't tell us anything new, since the whole "active development" thing was never confirmed, plus this also says that they're thinking about it and we know that they've been talking to Vaughn so anything could happen.

I personally still think we'll see another superman sequel within the next few years because A. The character is profitable and WB knows now (thanks to WW's success) that the direction they took with the character was the wrong one and B. there are several high profile directors like Vaughn (available now), bayona (available next year) and Jenkins (available after 2019) who are interested in the character so I'm not losing hope just yet.

To be fair superman's had 7 (or 8 if you count superman and the mole men) theatrical films and WW (despite her iconic status) has only had 1 solo thus far so I'd hardly call this unfair.

From what we're hearing, JL is finally going to give us the classic superman and with WB seemingly opting for more self contained solo films, it's the perfect set up for Vaughn to direct the next solo superman.

Well technically speaking, BvS was somewhat of a followup/sequel to MOS.

Add to that Cavill has talked about how he’s had conversations with Geoff Johns regarding the character in that JL collectors edition magazine and I believe they’re working on ideas for sure.

Well the whole public does want to see more Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, Batgirl, JL Dark, Booster Gold, Bwanna Beast, Snapper Car, El Dorado, Wonder Twins, Rima the Jungle Girl, and Apache Chief movies than a new Superman movie.

So I can see why WB is planning those first.

He still looks fine and is in great shape so I don't think it's the end of the world, as long as it happens at some point.

Agreed. To me, it's pretty clear that, if well received at JL (which I hope it happens), there'll be another Superman movie (or movies).

The good news is that the only complaints I've heard about Superman in JL is that the mustache removal thing is obvious. But a lot of people have been praising his return as a highlight and Cavill's performance in particular. I've been seeing comments like "Cavill IS Superman" and "WB finally got Superman right!" So if that's the general consensus, I think a Superman solo film is back on the table. BvS did him no favors (if you want my two cents, I didn't think Cavill was bad in BvS, he just had nothing to do throughout most of the movie), but hopefully JL will really bring out the best in Henry.
