Here We Go Again Part 3: New Welling As Superman Rumors?

That is all I have ever asked of you.
Sir I’ve ALWAYS complied to any request by the Moderators.

That must be because I said if you can't post elsewhere without trolling, don't post.

Negative! You would have banned me if that was the case.

The ONLY trolling I’ve done was, when I was a noob and I wanted an Avatar. You need 300 posts to be able to have an Avatar and I created my own thread to achieve that number.
Sorry I was brand spanking new to the whole forum world and was clueless to forum etiquette. You pointed that out to me and I apologized, I’ve been on your list ever since.

Ah, the old I'm living in a POLICE STATE because I'm not allowed to troll or attack other people response.
Yes, when you are making trollish, rude, and homophobic remarks...they are NOT appreciated.
Define trollish remarks.
As for homophobic?. I call it how I see it.
Mr. Singer was taking Superman in an inappropriate direction; heck the media even posed that question. The only disparaging thing I ever said “homophobic” was, calling Singer’s Superman, Supergirl with his liitle \s/.

When you made a post that said you would troll if a certain event happened. With your past track record, I felt you needed reminding to not do such actions.
Many times when a regular poster calls another one a TROLL it can be considerd name calling as away to start a fight. You are called a troll because it is the conscensus of the staff based upon your history here.

I don't know how many times I have to say this (not only here but all over the entire site)....you see something that can be considered trolling or trouble making...report it. If someone wants to start a fight...it doesn't become a fight until someone answers back.

I see you consider people whom disagree and debate about that disagreement at length in a respectable manner as trolling or trouble making.
I have not, knocked anyone out, nor have I spat in anyone’s face. So how is it going back & forth respectfully, a form of fighting or causing trouble?
Also where I come from snitches end up in ditches, I’ll NEVER rat out anyone unless they are hurting a women or child and that’s AFTER I personally intervened.
LOL in a POLICE STATE the Authority wants it’s citizens to REPORT on others. I can handle trouble makers and I never cause trouble in any form. PERIOD!

Take care Sir!

You're an unbelievable writer Trip. Great speech right there. Can we send it to Warner, Snyder, Nolan, etc ? ;0)

Aw, thanks Bruce, but I've had a lot of practice pulling out my Tom-is-perfect-for-the-feature-role-of-Superman spiel, it's only been perfected over the past five or six years....

;)

Seriously, however, I think it makes a ton of good business sense to hire him and they need to do it right now.

Warners needs to get his name on a contract before he starts fielding other offers now that he'll be free of his huge comittment to Smallville come mid- to late-April.

I would just add the being relatable factor that is very important on the success of Superman or I dare say in every super-hero movie ever made (if you don't believe me, ask Marvel).
Everytime Superman is portrayed as an invincible God whether on comics, tv or movies, it fails big time. One of the big reasons of Tom and Smallville's sucess is how (for all their wrongs) they portrayal the character the right way, as the most human of us all.
People from around the world relate to Tom's Clark/Blur/Superman and that is why they want him so badly to be cast. The general audience that doesn't know or care about the show will follow on if they relate/connect with Superman. Superman only works if the lead actor makes you believe (I don't care how good the movie is or how big the action is) and Tom makes ppl believe in Superman again.
Put another actor in the suit and the excuse (when all else fails) like Billy said will be that the world doesn't believe in Superman anymore. Not true. They just don't believe in Supermen they don't care or relate to.

I think you're right.

I think the beauty of Tom's performance as Clark is that he has shown us that Superman isn't all that different from the rest of us and he is more humane than most of humanity.

If the feature Superman can take that sort of portrayal and move forward instead of looking back 30 or so years, I think they'll probably do a lot better than SR did in terms of creating a compelling story with characters that people care about.

I think it cannot be said enough that all the individual issues with SR aside, that film's biggest failure was almost none of the characters were likable. I almost left the theatre about halfway through when I realized that I didn't care one bit about what happened to any of them. The only reason I stayed was because I had my kids with me.

Smallville's Clark is flawed and a lot of people point at that and say that he's not Superman because of that, but it's his flaws and insecurities that make him relateable.

I love Smallville's take on the character and I hope they have Clark be flawed and falliable, not god-like and perfect.

Even if Tom were in the film, I'm not sure I'd feel good about that sort of portrayal.

I see him (if he's smart enough with his choices and is lucky with the kind of material he's offered) in time going more on the same route that Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio have gone. He also can't be too risky and totally alienate his fan base with parts that are too radical. Christopher Reeve tried to do that and it didn't work well for him.
But I can see Tom doing all genres, pure comedy, romantic comedy, action, thriller, science fiction, drama, etc. And of course directing.
If they offer him the role of Superman, I'm pretty sure Warner (or even his agent will try to get it for him) will sweeten the deal by adding a few non-Superman pictures to the contract.

I think Christopher Reeve's attempts to distance himself from such an iconic came off as forced or awkward. I don't think it's the risks themselves that caused those roles to not be successful for him. While I think Chris was a good actor, his range wasn't very broad, and by pushing himself into roles that were different he ended up in roles that weren't well suited for him.

I don't think that's a problem that Tom has. In Smallville he's shown that he has a huge acting range.

He's played comedy, romance, action as well as believably portraying heroes and and villains.

I think no matter what he does, he will probably surprise people with his choices.

I've always been a HUGE supporter of Welling leaving Smallville behind and stepping up to the big screen, but that was back in like season 4 and 5, hell even season 6, but after that I kinda lost hope. He had spent to much time on Smallville and will most likely always be associated with it, for better or worse. That's the curse of being typecast.

Now, I don't think there's much hope at all actually that he'll even be considered by Snyder. Not necessarily for a bad reason, but simply due to his connection with a previous Superman related franchise. That's the point of a reboot, to start over and let someone else have a go at it. This can swing both ways, but this time around, due to knowing what Snyder is able to deliver, I really think this movie will succeed no matter who they cast.

However, from a realistic point of view, how ever small the chances of Snyder approaching Welling, it isn't inconceivable that he would.
Welling is after all the face of Superman and has been for almost a decade, so I can see them agreeing to just take that to the next level. No one else, just Welling with a new cast and calling Smallville an else worlds tale.

BUT, If I'm to be completely honest, I just don't think it will happen.
I think Snyder will most likely go with his own Superman and I've made my peace with it. It might seem unlikely that they cast Henry Cavill, but I would be every bit as pleased with him being cast as I would if Welling was.
That's the ONLY other choice I've ever approved of and greatly supported.
Time will tell what comes next, until then, we'll just have to play the waiting game.

Hey Mike22, I can see Snyder and Welling making this happen.
I believe this unbelievable situation is going to happen, simply because they have not flat out ruled Welling out.

I know they claimed that they're going with an unknown but I seriously doubt that. The longer the wait, stronger the chance get, that we'll finally see Clark (Tom Welling) Kent ascend into SUPERMAN. Our pipe dream finally a reality.

Hey Billy. That's the one thing about this that still puzzles me. They didn't rule out Welling like they immediately did Routh. Could be something, could be nothing. We'll see.
I can however see them having a real hard time finding someone that fits the bill, and as a last minute thing strike a deal with Welling.

This would serve you much better if it were done in PMs....

This isn't a police state, it is simply a privately owned forum with rules. We usually have a list of things we do first before we ban someone, warnings on forums, warning infractions, infractions, probationary bans, as well as bans. Arguing whether or not you deserved any of the above is futile on the forum itself, if you have questions you can PM an admin. (bold red), but you have been warned I believe, I would simply heed the warning an move on and enjoy your time on the SHH site.

There are fascist forums on the internet to talk about police states, here isn't really the place.

Thank you

BTW, this is not for discussion on the forum, if you have any other questions please use our PM system.

I do hope jonah and goyer wrote a good story that makes characters well rounded and likeable. Also good drama and action. I really can't wait to see what the story they made. Then of course how wb/nolan/snyder cast the film.

im still onboard that tom may be cast. they sure were in a BIG hurry to dismiss routh right away, i don't see them doing that with tom. they know darn well all the polls out there clearly show tom in the lead. of course erica would have to come as part of the package too but im sure they could make that work.

:super:

enjoy your time on the SHH site.

Thank you

10-4!

I think it's something, the outcry for Tom is at a fever pitch, they would be foolish not to cave-in to the demand. :woot:

Billy Batson said:
The WB should have waited for Smallville to end before even considering a new Superman franchise.

They pretty much had no choice, judge orders due to the rights converting back to the creator's family.

Yea it would be so nice if tom was picked. And I still do wish it would happen. But I am sure as snyder has said in past reports his superman will be new and different that he will have his own new cast. Plus with having nolan attached to the film and who snyder has worked with in his past films. I am sure he will assemble a good cast. I can't wait to see who ends up playing which roles.

I doubt ian would be picked. Plus with filming likely to start next summer he wouldn't have the time with tvd shooting.

I tell you now, if Ian Somerhalder is cast in the role.... I will not be seeing it in any capacity whatsoever.

The guy gives me the creeps.

I still picture him as that zombie freak that Lionel sent to stalk Lana.

Lol you got that right Trip.
Well it seems that David Goyer has stated that he was inspired in writing his new Superman screenplay on Geoff Johns Secret Origins book and he talks about how Clark must've suffered in his childhood and must've been so lonely dealing with his powers, etc.
Reminds us of anyone we know ? ;0)

Lol yea I am sure goyer did look at johns stuff for his script. So some parallels there will probably be made. Along with I would figure other eras of comics stuff added in too. Can't wait to see what the story really is.

So, according to this article 'Routh was universally praised for his take' on Superman.

Which universe would that be?

Yea that part of the article is pretty annoying but I've gotten used to the continued denial of few with regards to how horrendous he was.

His creepiness actually works for him in the Vampire Diaries, but truth is I feel the same way:

He'd be the absolute worst choice for Superman. He's not very tall, he's almost anorexic he's so skinny and he does come off as creepy.

All ways wrong.
