Yeah, that's the kind of stuff you get when people can't accept the suspension of disbelief. I mean, something like that works pretty well with the idea of 'Well, why doesn't Superman just do everything.' But, 'You can't cure cancer, because super cancer-aids is just waiting for you to do that'....just doesn't work at all.

I liked the Squadron Supreme version of the "cure cancer" problem. That dwarf guy went to the future and battled a bunch of dudes and got the cure. When he got home it was nothing more than fancy antibiotics because the future people had naturally evolved to repel cancer.

Oh crap.

:ff: :ff: :ff:

I thought Bab's whole schtick was that she DIDN'T want to be cured.

I tend to think it's quite good to have a disabled hero.

I do too, and that's why I have mixed feelings about it. But Babs staying crippled while Bruce has recovered like it never happened seems unfair and sexist. Not to mention that The Killing Joke is a very stupid story. Barbara Gordon, a superheroine, is just going to open the door when she is at her father, THE POLICE COMMISSIONER'S house in GOTHAM CITY??? And then she stands there like a deer in the headlights? No way. She'd see it was Joker through the peephole in the door (not to mention that Gordon would have security cameras), give her dad the appropriate hand signals, wait for him to get outside with the shotgun, open the door when the time was right, grab the gun from Joker and stick it up his sick rapist ass and Jim would blast his thugs to bits with the shotgun. There's an example of realism for ya.

Having a disabled hero in a world where she can easily receive a cure/fix is not good at all, same reason with cancer or hiv even existing. Batman, Superman, Lex Luthor... All capable of creating a cure for it in 5 minutes if they wanted to.

Basically the cancer in a reality like the DCU has to be like a super-cancer, harder to cure. Lex should know the cure but just like the story where he proved the existence of heaven and hell and God, he should refuse to share the information with the world because, well, he's Lex and the world doesn't matter to him. Only beating Superman does.

Then Babs is a mental case or she's lying.

Ben has said he doesn't want a cure and it ended up combining with his fear that Alicia didn't like him as a human and gave him a mental block that turned into an evil version of himself on Battleworld.

She definately wants to walk again.

:thing: :thing: :thing:

Because she'll have to fight an evil version of The Thing if she doesn't?

Mostly positive. There are a few changes that have me 'WTF?' along with the rest, but over all, I like a lot of what I'm seeing.

A "hilarious" option needs to be added to the poll because in 5 years we will all be laughing hysterically at how fail this all is.

Disappointed that Tim is in the Titans. Haven't cared for the book in years, doubt I'll care now, especially with the godawful costumes.

Tim deserves better. I hope his presence is felt adequately in the Batbooks.

I thought Tim had to be pushing 20 by now, no? He's got to be at least in his very late late teens. It seems...odd for him to be in the Titans at this point.

He was 17 after OYL, I believe. Not sure how much comic-time has supposedly passed since then.

Right now, I'm witholding judgement until I hear ( and see ) more of Kara's new look/design/direction, as well as Superman's look and direction.

Superboy's new look is......meh. I don't outright hate it, but I have to learn more about his characterization. I would not be enthused with a character similar to his Young Justice show persona.

If they are going to take my favorite characters and drastically alter their looks and character, then I'll pass on this whole relaunch thing.

I started off unsure, but from the announcements I'm excited. I went from reading Batman Inc, Detective Comics and Batgirl to being interested in a whole lot of titles. More than I will be able to buy. If anything this will give someone like me a jumping on point to read some characters that I'm interested in reading that were too hard to jump on to before.

With Paul Cornell, Grant Morrison, and Scott Snyder, three writers who I know I like having multiple books, I will need to be doing some saving...

You're making a lot of assumptions.

Seeing the new Superman knocked me down from very positive to indifferent faster a you-know-what.

Barbara Gordon's Batgirl, all fangasms aside, is redundant now. She has more experience, and is far more integrated into Batman's world than Kate Kane, and she's of course not a "girl" anymore. None of this was lost while she was Oracle and she was a major power in the DCU. Only one of the redheads should've made the cut, and if Batwoman is still going to be relevant in the DCnU it should've been her alone IMO.

Goddamn, Stephanie can't catch a break. She was unfairly sacrificed on the Altar of Dead Robins, then when she found a new place where she could (and was) making her own mark, they pull her again for no reason. Screw that, I might just pass on Barb's new book after all

Remember though, supposedly everyone will be younger, so Barbara may only be in her early 20s after the relaunch. Still in "girl" territory.

I honestly think the younger is just a marketing word to hook new people. Batman's still a dad and whatnot.

Eh, they could de-age Bruce by a decade and he could still be a father.

you know what i love about all the announcements on DC's website? they have the comments section closed. im glad they're so confident in their product that they made it super easy for them to ignore everyones criticisms.

They've been closed for months if I'm not mistaken.

Shh! Don't make sense. It interrupts fanboy ranting.

have they? i checked that by randomly clicking on a blog post from a few months back and it was open, so.....my mistake. either way, putting aside the reboot, keeping the comments open would be a good idea.

I'm indifferent at the moment. You can't really make a judgement until you actually see the product. When it comes to the whole relaunch announcement it caused a bit of a sigh and a "Really? They are doing this again?" Because the first thing you always think in a relaunch situation is that if it's not successful to their standards things just end up going back to the way they were. If DC sticks with this and has no plans on going back then I can certainly have some more respect for it.

The thing that I'm most excited about is the same day digital releases. It's something that I've been seeing on the horizon for years now and have been waiting to see which one of the big two would jump in first. Surprisingly, it's DC. With the digital copies going to $1.99 and my girlfriend informing me she plans on getting me an iPad for my birthday....yeah, I'm excited. It going to be interesting to see exactly how sales and "digital sales" will go. I just want to know how many non-comic readers will use the DC app, download a comic and then how many people will get hooked? That's going to be the key. This is something that could really turn the comics world upside down and really bring in a TON of new readers. Having brand new comics right on the tip of peoples finger tips...that is definitely going to be something to watch.

So, as far as the creative decisions. I'm on the fence. We have to wait and see. With many of the titles and creative teams I've seen it definitely looks like they are putting a lot into this and that has me leaning more to a positive attitude. However, some of the changes they've made could end up being craptacular no matter the creative team.
