How I Met Your Mother - Part 2

You know what might change the story quality of the show?

Introducing the ****ing Mother. :o And not a "Hey, here's the Mother because it's the last episode" introduction. Give the show a 6th character.

I still think the best thing for them to do wouldve been for them to introduce 2 or 3 serious gfs for Ted in the final season and have the surprise of which one is the mother for the final episode.

Just finished watching the episode and the vibe I got early on is that its was going to contribute the trend that it started last year which was to heavily rely on gimmick to try to get laughs, as opposed to letting them happen naturally through some good story telling.

I think that's what made season 6 so great for the most part, and one of the better seasons in a while, since they touched on a lot of serious stuff, but still managed to capture the charm of the characters and what the show was supposed to be about. But now its so out there, with pretty much every character that it doesn't seem as grounded or believable anymore, and that really takes away from what it used to be.
After last nights episode it seems like they are going to touch upon Ted's feeling toward Robin and Barney's relationship/marriage. TO which I think is a great idea because Ted needs to resolve these feelings in order to move on and more than likely will need to make peace with both Barney and Robin before the wedding because I think he has to ask her somewhere down the road why she would marry Barney and not him.
I'm hoping they touch upon this. Obviously, in the end we know they're still close friends, but there's always going to be that little bit of bitterness
for Ted if she chooses to settle down with Barney.

Also, I'm not expecting them to bring in the mother until the last episode, but I really hope they make that an hour long episode because they'll have so much to bring the show to a close that 22 minutes won't really be able to capture without feeling rushed.

I agree. Having the mother would give the show a much needed injection and sense of direction. At the moment it's really quite meandering, and everything feels like filler. The characters don't have anything really to do.

I didn't find the last episode very funny, and since we all know that Victoria isn't the one, I felt she had overstayed her welcome.

And Robyn's relationship with Nick seems rather pointless. At least they're going to break up next episode.

It's hard to invest in a character when you know theyre gonna be gone after a few episodes

season 1 Victoria or the bad season 8 Victoria which was written so bad so that they could break them up?

She's practically a different person now. Season 8 Victoria is more like the b**** character she played in Warehouse 13 than the person she was in HIMYM Season 1.

Victoria was fantastic in season 1. Still my favorite. But they completely ruined her this season. She felt pointless. And what was with the actress always looking off to the side? It was pointed out once here and then it was all I could notice when she was in a scene.

Wow after reading what you guys wrote, I was still gonna give it a try turned it off on marshal and lilly snapping thier fingers like they were men on film, this show needs to end already

wasn't a fan of how they broke up victoria/ted or marshal and lilly this week,
but then there hasn't been much for marshal and lilly to do lately cause the show is focusing on barney, ted and robyn

did enjoy the barney/dog wingman stuff though :D

I feel like the whole Victoria arc was forced even going back to the finale of last season. It was like all of a sudden Robin and Ted start speaking again and she tells him to go after her, and then he still does even after he sees she's getting married, and then he still does after talking to Klaus.

That whole relationship was pointless, and I was hoping that the ta he had at the end of the premiere would have factored into his decision to break up with her, but it wasn't even an issue.

I think it's neat that they wanted to bring her back. I think she's the most significant girlfriend Ted has had besides Robin. But yeah, they did it in a pretty ****** way.

The Ted/Victoria story was believable. It's an unreasonable demand for her to ask, but it is a believable one. Of course, she would still feel the sting of what Ted did back in season 1. I wish they had shown Ted with Victoria more to see their relationship unfold, so that the breakup would pack a harder punch.

Plain and simple, the show has show is suffering due to the fact that they are so close to wrapping up all of the main character arcs.

Ted is months away from meeting the mother on the day of Barney and Robin's wedding. 2 arcs in the same time frame, leaving little else to do there.

The Ted/Victoria storyline is pretty much dead and buried and there's only so long they can drag it out (and with Robin finding out what happened later on, they will probably drag it out for a while longer).

Lily and Marshall are pretty much useless now. As much as I hate it, they have nothing to do now. In the beginning they we're building to their marriage and in the later seasons, their child. But now that their child is here, their story is all but wrapped up. There isn't much else you can do with them.

They've been building all of these stories (Barney and Robin, Ted meeting The mother, Lily and Marshall's marriage and child) for years and that was the strength of the show. Now that they are all wrapping up, there is nothing to do but buy time.

I'm gonna agree with what many have said and say this: if they do a 9th season, they MUST introduce the Mother as a new character and have the last season building to their wedding and/or child.

The alternative is ending the show, perhaps with a single episode with the mother.

I don't buy that all there was to Lily/Marshall was building up to wedding/baby stuff. There are plenty of adventures to be had with these two as parents, there's just really no good way to fit that into the show as we know it. They've already basically covered that their lives as parents kind of isolates them from Ted/Robin/Barney's adolescent shenanigans, actually delving into their lives as parents would almost seem like an entirely different show.

But they really do need to get the mother in there. It's not even just a "I want to know who the mother is!" thing anymore. Her addition would shake things up, which is kinda what the show needs. Having a sixth face that you know isn't just a "love interest of the week" would not only remove what feels like an endless wait, but it also adds new blood, a new aspect of the story, etc. I don't buy this BS that the show should end with Ted meeting her. It's not enough. We need to know why this is THE girl- and part of that includes how she interacts with the other five most important people in Ted's life. What makes this girl different enough from Victoria that she doesn't see his friendship with an ex-girlfriend as a threat to their relationship? What makes her different than Zoey, and the countless other chicks he's "fallen in love" with, that Lily doesn't see their relationship as one that's going nowhere? There's stories to tell with the Mother. There has to be...

And yet, the writers may not reason this way at all, especially judging by the way things are progressing. Robin and Barney can't just get married in the next couple of episodes, so there needs to be a build up to that to see how Robin gets over not wanting to be married. They also need to show how Ted is okay with that. So all of that takes time. And the way all past seasons have gone, the premiere episode always shows a flash forward, and then is only resolved in the finale. If they do the same thing here, then that scene in the rain won't happen until the last episode.

Also, they already said they filmed the final scene with the kids' reaction to how Ted met the mother, which was filmed all the way back at the end of Season 1 so that they would look the correct age. If they go beyond the first meeting, the kids won't look the right age if Ted is still telling the story to them.

I don't agree that they should only show the mother in the last episode and agree entirely with your post, but just going by the evidence we have, I don't see them doing anything else unless they decide to drastically change things at the last minute.

They could save telling "the mother" to "the kids" and have him not say that she's "the mother" till the last scene of show. EX. "and kids that's how I met your mother."

I don't think you need to have "the mother" in a whole season arc. They've spent 7 seasons giving us small details about her. So we already know that she clicks with the group, has things in common with Ted. And they also made the first meeting be the time they'll know they are eachothers "lebenslangerschicksalsschatz"

I hope the show ends this season. I don't want them to continue to recycle "Friends" story lines. This show is already my "Friends" I don't wanna see them eat their tails and ruin what's been 8 great seasons.

Plus Jason Segal looks bored.

i watched season 6 and 7. and Segel lost a lot weight. A LOT.
segels look/weight has always been very inconsistent throwout the series, it can be a little distracting at times, especially when they do flash backs, an you know that's not what he looked like back then, it can kinda take you out of the moment

but, good for him for losing the weight

First episode of the season that got laughs out of me.

I don't know, I kinda hated how they made Robin's boyfriend dumb all of a sudden.

But I guess things will go back to normal now that they got all of the extra (and pointless) characters out of the way.

Another boring episode. And while I give kudos to Segel for losing the weight, it was way too noticeable and distracting in this episode for me.

I may be wrong, but was that Sarah Shahi as one of those women at the end who said she also had her heart broken, and went home with Nick? The two of them both played in Fairly Legal, so I wondered if it were an in joke.

I don't think that was her. I'm not certain, but I don't think it was.
