They really are running out of things to do. Mondays episode was very meh.

And they've already done the whole 'Lily is horny' bit a couple times already, talk about a blatant rehash.

I actually laughed a lot during this episode, more than any other episode this season, and I thought it was best except for the last 3-4 minutes. I didn't think the Barney plot was bad because it fit in with a bunch of his older stuff like sleeping with 200 woman or going on the Price is Right. If anything, my complaint has been that the show is too out there now, but it works only for Barney. But it was weird to see them use it as a way of trying to bring Barney and Robin (who has gotten hit on or dated somebody immediately following every break up she's had) together.

And I agree about the Brad thing, he was awesome in this episode, but the payoff ruined his character. I agree with the IGN review that said it didn't seem right considering how close he and Marshall were. But I'm glad Ted finally realized he was a *****e.

I think I will just tune in for the series finale. I haven't seen the last handful of episodes and I honestly haven't missed the show that much.

I agree that it's relying too much on gimmicks, going backwards, forwards and all that. Is like Family Guy in some cases. Some of the jokes want to be clever, but they are not.

The Big Bang Theory had a weak season 5, but season 6 is actually getting a lot better, and it's opening a lot of potential. HIMYM has an initial premise that can't be stretched much longer, that's one of the problems. I still think is one of the most original shows out there, is just not that good anymore, I think.

I still think the main problem is that the lead is always being pushed back to a B, or even C plot. I love NPH and he really added the humor to balance out the "seriousness" of Ted in the early seasons, but he's gotten more of the star treatment in the past couple of seasons and they basically sell the show as his.

To be honest, I know they've done it, but I can really remember hearing Ted address the kids these past few episodes. Those little tidbits of wisdom were always my favorite part of the show, but I don't think we've gotten any of those this season.

However, even if they were exactly like earlier seasons, I don't think any of us want that anymore, because it just seems like they're killing time and not moving forward but going in circles. Everything seems just like filler at the moment with no real direction. Ted also doesn't seem to have anything to do.

I wish they would just put Barney and Robin's wedding in the middle of the season instead of the end, and then they can introduce the mother as a character. I honestly see that's the only way this show can truly move forward and become fresh again, and Ted can once again take centre stage. If they don't do that, it's like Smallville where they're delaying Clark learning to fly and being forever reluctant to become Superman.

That's because that's exactly what it is. We already know the endgame. Marshall and Lily continue to be parents, Robin and Barney get married, and Ted meets the mother. Ted has to do nothing but be at that spot because we all know now that that's where he'll meet her. The only characters that need to move forward are Barney and Robin, which is why they've become the center of focus, because the other characters literally have nothing to do. At least now we saw Marshall is involved in a big case, but the impact of that case on everyone is yet to be seen. But the big question now is not so much how does Ted meet the mother, but rather how do we get to the wedding?

And speaking of Smallville, they had an awesome second to last season, but once they knew the end was coming, they decided to spend the season looking back at the past and bringing back old guests, instead of creating a compelling arc to drive the entire season forward. HIMYM has sort of done the same with all the Ted/Robin and Barney/Robin stuff.

Yeah, I've mentioned it several times in the past that it's almost like Ted isn't even like the main character anymore. I don't know how it was in the past, but when you look at the cast, they are all notable actors, aside from Radnor. NPH has a huge fanbase, Cobie has fans, especially after being in the Avengers. Hannigan is known for Buffy and American Pie, and Segel is known for his work in the past as well. But Radnor is not as mainstream as the others, and is more of an Indie film actor/director, and I wonder if that has had any impact on his role in the show or its promotion.

Completely disagree. S10 was one of the better season long arcs the show did.

Really? I felt like the first half of the season was really building up the VRA stuff and forcing heroes to come out and reveal themselves, but then that was quickly dropped/resolved by the midpoint and the rest of the season was focusing more on the wedding, Lex's return and the finale. The Darkseid stuff was the only thing that was sprinkled throughout the season but there were so many points where they didn't even touch on it because they were focusing on something else like Lex or Lionel. I'm not saying it was a bad season or anything, but when I look at the season as a whole I think of how they tried to cram in as many guests and nods to the past, as opposed to picking up where they left off in the present.

I'm not sure that comparing HIYM to Smallville is fair. Toward the end, most of the fun was seeing other heroes show up. This show can't really do that. Although I certainly wouldn't mind if any of the Smallville girls did.

I mean week to week Ted's story isn't going anywhere towards the ultimate goal of finding the mother. The show has never been about the destination but the journey it takes to get there.

i understand that, but unfortunately nothing is happening to Ted in his life I mean look at from the beginning, Ted went to niave idealistic young guy who was looking for love who was chasing his dream girl but then found that his 'dream girl' wasn't his dream girl and after which during season 3 he was more sleazy as he tried to get over Robin and kind of fell for the rebound girl and ended up having his heart broken since then he's been kind of cynical towards love and his growth has become more his career.

Ted still needs to grow as a character and I think breaking up him and Victoria too quickly was a mistake. They could have prolonged it and have Ted actually starting to fall for Victoria again but realising she isn't the one. If they do have him meet the mother again, I would like some misadventures for Ted before he meets the movie, have him go back to his season one routes but keeping the cynism that he's developed and have it slowly disappear for when he meets the mother. Maybe Barney and Robin getting together could be the moment Ted restarts his quest for love.

I think they should show a bit of Ted's work life. He doesn't seem to go to work at all these days. They used to show him at his architect firm, and then a little bit at his college where he's meant to be a professor. What's happened to that? That almost seems forgotten about since he was trying to design that new skyscraper (i forget what it was called) which was opposed by that woman (i forget what she was called) who became his girlfriend for a while.

What is he doing these days? At the end of one of the seasons they said it was the best job he ever had and where (while he was in the wrong lecture) his future wife was. They should show how it's the best job and have him teaching again. And also they've stopped dropping any hints about the mother now since the season 8 premiere. Everything seems to be heading to that now, but it's taking its time.

I really hope Barney and Robin's relationship doesn't take forever to get them to the altar this time. If it were anything like Smallville, it could be years before those two actually decide to get together, just like Clark was always in two minds about Lana and then Lois.
