How I Met Your Mother - Part 2

Yeah, there's really no reason to continue to put off meeting the broad. I think actually interacting with the woman he's destined to fall in love with would be a huge part of moving Ted's character forward. We don't need a season and a half of Barney and Robin being engaged and Ted screwing around with girls that won't last more than an episode.

still one of my favourite marshall moments from the show :woot:
that episode is great too

Introducing the mother as a character could actually boost ratings for Season 9. Putting off meeting her properly until the end of Season 9 could probably make ratings plummet. HIMYM can't limp on like it currently has been for another season.

What would be ironic (and very frustrating) is if, with all this delaying, Josh Radnor were to actually pass away before ever getting to film the finale and we never get to meet the mother at all.

That's kind of a horrible thing to say...

I agree that someone dying would be a bad thing.

I just find it funny that the only two words used their are "ironic" and "frustrating".

Yeah.... because an actor dying at a fairly young age would really suck for the show. :whatever:

I believe the joke was suggesting that the show would be dragged out so long that he would no longer be "fairly young", but in fact be dying of old age by the time the show finally gets to that point

Ehh.... I don't think so.

With a 9th season I can't believe that we're going to meet the mother in the series finale, I think we'll meet her either at the end of this year or the beginning of the next, and the 9th season becomes almost a look back at the mother's criss-crossing story with the main cast (as the creators have talked about before).

i will be surprised if they do a whole season criss crossing the mother's story with the main cast. However, I always thought it would be cool if they did 1 episode with that

Yeah, I would'nt mind a 1-episode "How I Met Your Father" type thing. Like older Ted has to get up to go to the bathroom or something (he's been holding it for EIGHT YEARS!) and hands off the story to the mother.

And to make it extra awesome, have the Mother be voiced by Lori Loughlin.

yeah i was thinking that too. Or at least someone of that sort

I'm trying to think back to the timeline of everything because based on "Trilogy Time", Ted's daughter is already born by early 2015, which means she was conceived by mid to late 2014. Since I don't think Ted will knock the mother up right away, I'd say that he meets her sometime between 2013 and 2014, which could be as early as the end of this season, or sometime during next season.

Interestingly enough, they kept Barney's left hand hidden in that flashback in order to keep his marital status a secret, although Ted had a ring visible on his left hand.

I'm pretty sure the intention of Carter/Bays has always been for the show to end with the mother reveal. We have learned things about the mother over 8 seasons, to the point where you don't have to meet her for a whole season. The whole point of the show is a love story told in reverse, we already know they are married and in love. The kids already know they are in
love.

The story ends when he meets the mother, hence the title of the show. Do you need to see an episode of them walking with the yellow umbrella? I understand your guy's beef with things, but once the show became a hit this is what keeps people watching. If they reveal who the mother is too soon, they lose half the audience. The show has been about more then Ted for about 5 seasons now.

I do enjoy coming on here and reading your gripes though :)

What do we really have, though? A list of quirks, a lesbian roommate and a thing for yellow umbrellas? Is that enough? I don't ****ing think so. :o

I think the mother might end up being the girl he was supposed to meet in season 1, assuming it doesn't turn out to be Barney's sister. We know she is essentially Ted's ideal woman for the most part, and the girl he was supposed to meet was blurred out in all of the photos, which could hint at them wanting to hide it since the start.

And I think the tricky thing about introducing the mother early is that they need to cast someone who will end up being likable. I can't imagine what would happen if they cast someone that the audience isn't a fan of, but are forced to like her just because she's the mother.

I think she's also the girl Ted bumped into on St. Patrick's Day.

if we dont get at least 10 episodes with the mother then its an insult. since Barney and Robin got at least full 4 seasons.

She was an economics student (season 5) so she could work for GNB or another company in which Ted will design a building/work for.

Their share of the same hobbies

I could really care less about getting to know the mother. This show is about all the characters for me and the title of the show could imply to all the male characters. I've enjoyed seeing how Marshall and Lilly met and ended up together, and even though Robin can't have kids the changes Barney has gone through over 8 seasons has been fun to watch.

I might be the only one that's excited for a 9th season, but I think that will give Carter/Bays a good way to tie their show all together and end the show how it should, instead of stuffing 10 episodes full of things.

I'm not saying you guys are wrong about wanting the mother, and I wouldn't hate seeing her on screen for some episodes. I just don't think it'll happen. It would be like seeing 12 episodes of Battlestar Gallactica colonizing Earth, it's just not that needed.

I was going to say that Abby Elliot was most likely cast as "The Mother"
in the show because they built up the character as fun down to earth
woman who paints robots playing sports and like the Pixies and it a white
blond woman (from the short glimpse we got of her in that one episode)
but then this article states something different:

Pretty sure that woman was a red herring. I dont remember exactly but isnt the impression we've been given so far is that the mother is blond?

But like others have said, it'd be kinda lame that in 8 seasons we've witnessed the engagement, marriage and parenthood stages of Marshall and Lily, the ups and downs of the Barney and Robin courtship and eventual marriage and yet when we get to focusing the ACTUAL premise of the series, we get short changed and are just told to buy into it...

To be fair, as much as the Barney/Robin stuff in the past few seasons has been annoying, it had its purpose because we know that Ted will meet the mother on the day of their wedding, so its important to see how he got there. The premise is how he meet the mother, not necessarily how he married the mother.

Seriously.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't get to know her. Why should we take it on faith alone that this is the girl for him? And not only for him, but for the rest of the group as well. Should we also take it on faith alone that the mother passes Lily's Front Porch test, or that the Mother is secure enough in her relationship with Ted that she's not only not threatened by Robin, but also probably becomes pretty good friends with her? She's not only the girl of Ted's dreams, and the mother of his children, but she should also be the missing piece that the group never knew was missing in the first place.

We NEED to spend a good amount of time with the Mother. No amount of talking will convince me otherwise.
