The Dark Knight How should be the Batmobile for The Dark Knight?

Batman Begins marked the first time I ever gave a rat's rear about the Batmobile, either in films or in comics. It was the first time I ever sat up and took notice of the car and how it could be designed to kick ass and function over different terrains.

The Tumbler should be mostly left alone. The only tweaks I'd suggest is some kind of bumper on the front to make it more realistic for smashing through obstacles, and also make the front wheels exposed to the outside like the back ones.

Other than that, the Tumbler absolutely rocks.

Something tells you metro is out of style? what year do you live in?

I didn't mean out of style as in the world.

But out of style for Batman. Having bat emblems and stuff on everything, with molded pecs and nipples.....out of style.

And having a car that looks like it will fall apart if I kick it too hard is out of style too, I think.

Please tell me how "reality" is different from putting bat-symbols on stuff or assigning prefixes to names?

Well, I wouldn't say it is reality or taking away from it. But, it seems sort of campy if he takes the time to put the logos on everything, on the wheels, on the credit cards....as if he'll forget what's what or what's his. But, maybe living with Robin was the reason for that one? (silence is heard).

The bike thing reminds me of BATMAN YEAR ONE HUNDRED.

I dunno.....I love the Tumbler, and really would like the design stay close to home. That's all really.

Uh, he should leave the tumbler alone for the most part, and possibly update it or make minor adjustments (just like they're allegedly doing w/ the suit).

Changing the vehicle could backfire. It was a nice change to see a more militarized vehicle, as opposed to what was in Forever and B&R. I still like the original batmobile the best, but the Tumbler probably is my second fav.

Well, think about it. Did the Batmobile change from 89 to BR?

Not really. And neither did the costume. So....I dunno...I don't see it getting a total makeover.

Was the Batmobile in BB called "Bat mobile?"

never. i think that was a good thing. its like in dkr where bats is narrarating and he says batmobile that's what you used to call is dick, its a name a kid would come up with or something. i don't want bats to ever call it anything, not even "the car".

The costume did change....

LOL. Fine print.

I said "Not really".

There were minor changes. Overall, it basically remained the same.

I don't want them to ditch the tumbler, but I wouldn't mind a second car for situations the tumbler isn't appropriate for.

Pfftt....the Tumbler is like the McGuyver of vehicles. It flies on rooftops......I'd like to see a bike do that.

LoL.....Joking...joking.

i think it should still kinda look like the one from bmb but make it a little smaller

I think they certainly can and should make the Tumbler a bit more sleek and a lot more faster and maneuverable. I also hope Nolan uses a couple of camera tricks like Bay does to create more visceral chase sequences in the sequel. Not implying that the ones in BB were bad or anything, just that there's more than enough room to kick it up a couple of notches.

Ten times as big, and with rocket launchers, hyperspace drives, and a plutonium reactor so Batman can go back in time just for the hell of it.

lol!

because its all just fiction right? ;)

A Bat Bike. Oh MI GOSH. Is TDK going to be campy??? I hope they make the bike look the one in spawn.
Some people think a guy dressed up as a bat is campy. :o
The Tumbler is not going to be sufficient for Batman to fight his war on criminals and the corrupt of Gotham. He'll need more than a suit, grappling gun and a tank. A bike, boat or even an aircraft, i could think of scenarios where Batman might need these things. It doesn't neceserally have to be called bat- this or that either.

Remember that Nolan is not only a fan of Batman but also a major fan of James Bond.;)

Personally, I would like to see something a little bit sleeker for the film. I always had a small problem with the tumbler just because it dsidn't have a sleek feel to it. The design was cool, but there were so many bumps on it, it just didn't feel like a stealthy design.

i like a sleeker look for the next Batmobile too, if only due to aerodynamics.

at first i wasnt quite sure about the design for the Tumbler, i thought it was a little too rough to be the first batmobile, then i realized the design was inspired from the F-117 stealth plane:

i remembered reading/ hearing from somewhere that the reason why the body is angular is because radar cant/ has difficulty sensing it, with its primary purpose being stealth, it makes a whole lot of sense.

Love the Tumbler and I think it's pretty damn certain they won't change it one iota--Nolan is extremely opposed to adding fins and other Bat-accessories just there for styling.

I've never been of the opinion that the Batmobile should be some weaponized sports car either, all sleek and curvy.

The Bugatti Veyron sure has a Batman-esque look to it though.

Well, ironically, all stealth craft(planes, boats etc) are 'bumpy' and jagged. None of them are sleek and smooth, not sure how it all works though.

As for aerodynamics, there's nothing wrong with the way it moves. It's perfect in that regard, which is something no-one can argue against. It's like a silent predator which just happens to be able to go through walls.

Back to the sleek argument-i see no reason for the tumbler to be modified in this respect, other than aesthetically, which is pointless. Really, if you want Batman to have more style then you are just not getting Nolan's Batman. I doubt he gives a crap wether people think he has nice wheels or not, and as has been pointed out numerous times already, stylization is one major reason why we hate Joel Shumacher. There is no place for it here in this franchise imo.

A couple of yrs ago when the Tumbler was unveiled, there was an explanation behind it. The tumbler was supposed to reflect Bruce/Batmans pysche-Hard, dark, violent, inpenetrable. The edges are so jagged that no-one can get in.

Like most people when I first saw the tumbler back in '04 I was like "huh?" but then I look closer at it and if you could picutre the batwing design placed over (see the design of the B89 one) I could see how it could progress to what we know it as and I think slowly as the franchise goes on he'll add more parts and evolutionise it to the Batmobile

With that said, the tumbler itself as it is looks really cool and feels like a great way to reinvent the iconic car. It makes me wish they didnt change it all.

If the Tumbler design is kept, then it's all good. I don't hate it, it's actually prettty bad-ass.

But please, I would really appreciate all this bullsh1t about "Batman would never stylize his car" to just stop. Really. The statement is so damn transparent it doesn't warrant a complaint unless it got real annoying, like it is now. All I gotta say on the subject is look at Batman's f'n suit to see that style is obviously part of his forte. And if anyone even tries to bother and bring up "but he uses the ears for radio transmissions", "the cape is used to travel distances", or any of the like...please don't. You'll make yourself look more like an idiot.

And therein ends my rant. :o

that doesn't make any sense since it was designed in the movie as a bridging vehicle. i also thought that that nolan wanted to give it a blade runner feel and if you look at the squad car from blade runner it looks very similar to the tumbler.

I kind of agree, but I take issue with everybody assigning "reality" as the reason not to do corny stuff

The bike thing reminds me of BATMAN YEAR ONE HUNDRED.
Which was AMAZING

Yup you're right, and ironically you are wrong at the same time. Style has nothing to do with his suit and vica versa. By stylised, i mean uneccesary s**t that has NO purpose.

His suit is was as basic as can be. He had a scary looking cowl, a dark rubber suit, with a logo you can barely see, an a big cape which was both practical and added to an illusion that Bruce Wayne wanted to express.

Now, tell what the hell the point of making the tumbler sleeker, sexier and putting 'fins' on it? You could argue for the same reasons i gave for the suit above i guess-but what is the obsession with making the car have fins? It's ridiculous, wld serve no purpose in the filmand imo it would be a step too far. Making it sleeker and adding fins is hardly going make Batman any more mysterious or frightening. He would just look like a knob-jockey. He has pointy ears and a cape, he resembles a human bat. We get it. Great. We don't need him to reinforce that concept through pimping his car.

The jagged edges are there because it's a stealth vehicle. Ok? Bruce Wayne will not 'sleeken' it to make it look nicer for everyone.

You'd have a more valid point if I actually suggested any of that anywhere in this forum. So please, if you'd like to enlighten me on when exactly I wanted a batmobile to have fins, no less batsymbols, or any of the like, you're welcome to do so.

My basic point is there's nothing wrong with a "sleeker" look. No, that does not mean neon lights. It seems with this board it's either black or white. From one extreme to the other. I prefer to be on the middleground myself. Aesthetically pleasing while still having functionality.
