The Dark Knight Rises How Would You Continue the Story from TDKR? (Spoilers)

i thought gordon could've at least mentioned his daughter in the movie .... couldve been a simple line such as "...i hope my girl barbara grows up to be like u ..."

it would've opened up a possible batgirl addition as well

If there is any continuation to this story I would like it to stay true to Nolanverse and not try to autocorrect itself just to please the fans.
Comic books might be the best way to continue it cause it will require less resources than a movie and it will be famous only amongst the fans who wanna know more. It's not gonna ruin the complete status of the trilogy.
As a main protagonist I would like to see Blake and some new characters. Bruce and Selina might make some cameos or even train Blake but I would like them to remain distant and happy. :)

Blake would attempt to become a Batman type vigilante only to fail at his first attempt and the bat cowl is destroyed. He eventually would pursue and discover the truth that Bruce is alive through various hints such as the signal being fixed, and attempt to make contact through Bruce from Alfred. Alfred would deny Bruce's location stating he had found a life beyond the cave and that is where ends. Alfred proposes to Blake that if he pursues this path as a vigilante, he will suffer consequences.

Blake re-assumes the role of detective by day. He takes the suit and re-models it creating a new symbol, Nightwing. He promises to himself that he will bring justice to Gotham only for a duration of time if needed if the police couldn't get the job done and move on as well. A crazed man takes former Coleman Reese hostage in an attempt to discover the identity of the real Batman. Luscious Fox resurfaces to Blake as they both make an attempt to protect the name that was behind the mask. His primary new vehicle would be a much more sleek version of the Batpod.

I would continue it with Bruce Wayne not a part of the Story anymore, and Robin Blake becoming the new Batman. Joseph Gordon Levitt is a great actor and a total badass, and he can definitely pull off Batman. New villains from Batman's Rogues Gallery, and a new Batman. Could be great.

Comptelety agree. I say definitely leave this trilogy alone, but that is the one way I would continue it. Robin John Blake takes up the mantle of Batman, but Bruce and Selina get to live happily ever after together and have peaceful lives together neither has ever had. Also let Gordon retire and reunite with his family.

Batgirl? Oh please no, I don't have any interest in seeing that character ever again in a movie.

As Im sure people have said, even though its suggested that this is Bruce's last time as Batman in that he's just a real man and he ready to move on. The film fits well with the idea that Bruce could return after letting Levitt have some time.

Really? I didn't get any ideas of him returning at all and it really doesn't fit with any of the themes of the series. I think some people just forget that this isn't the comics, it's Nolan's trilogy, and he gave Bruce Wayne a conclusion and happy ending story something that rarely ever happens to the guy.

Yeah the film gives no indication that Bruce plans to return.

Sorry Guys let me clarify, was pretty stoned when I wrote that. Yes I know Nolan Batman is a closed world he isnt going to continue on forever, which i love as you guys said we finally get a happy'ish ending.

What I meant to say is even though this is all true, it fun to think like a fanboy also and imagine that he would come back. Thats all, im not actually stupid enough to think thats suggested.

I'd call it Shadow of the Batman.

John Blake left the Gotham Police Department and found the Batcave, but he doesn't intent to replace Bruce Wayne as Batman. He has become friends with James Gordon, who has been replaced as the Commissioner of Police and is under federal investigation for covering up the crimes commited by Harvey Dent 10 years prior. Gordon's daughter, Barbara, has moved back to Gotham to attend Gotham University and support her father, and becomes romantically attached to Blake in the process.

Oswald Copplebot, the CEO of Cobblepot Developments, becomes the new Mayor of Gotham and overrules the Dent Act, leading to thousands of legal processes to short out the arrests that Gordon has made under it. Because of this, the streets are filled with criminals once more, and a new mobster, Tony Zucco, is reuniting them under his rule, creating a crime syndicate that not even Carmine Falcone and Sal Maroni were able to in their time.

Zucco is supported by mercenaries David Cain and Floyd Lawton, and Blake soon learns of his existance. He and Barbara begin investigating the matter without police protection, and end up discovering that Zucco is being supported by Cobblepot, the real mastermind behind the organized crime.

Blake tells Barbara the truth about Batman, and decides to take up the cowl in order to stop Cobblepot before more innocent lives are lost. Blake trains, and gain some knowledge of combat, though he is still not a match for Wayne. Barbara helps him perfect Bruce's equipment to suit him, and Blake begins sabotaging Cobblepot's operations and gathering evidence of his crimes to present to the police.

The movie develops Blake's confrontation with Cobblepot, him easying into the role of Batman, and his final acceptance of the mantle and the rise of Gotham's new protector. Intercut, is the birth of Blake's nemesis, FBI profiler Edward Nygma, who assists in the investigation of Gordon and slowly becomes obssesed with the new Batman and descends further into his need to "solve the riddle", becoming the Riddler in the fifth movie.

Lotta strong ideas in this thread.

Recently I like Protocida's here. It's a good start for me.

Would be great to see Penguin in the Nolanverse.

Protocida could work with the theme of stepping into expectations and responsibilites beyond one's reach. We all experience this, so it resonates. (I highlighted in Red where Protocida touched on it).

More ideas for continuing the Nolanverse:

1. An HBO or AMC TV series. Bring J. G. Levitt back to the small screen but with the caliber of writing HBO and AMC have become known for.

2. An animated TV series in the Nolanverse. Animation would allow them to be as epic as they please on a TV budget. The new TRON: UPRISING series is in my opinion BETTER than the last Tron film. Nolan's Gotham in animation might work.

3. Have the Nolan's and/or Goyer continue the story with scripts for a comic series. Or novels. Doubt they would do it, but I would be eager to purchase and read any stories they wrote about Gotham.

Robin Blake takes a position offered to him by Fox with Wayne Enterprises. The batcave is sealed off from the mansion so that if an orphan happens upon the secret elevator-- it goes to what appears to be a panic room.

Fox assembles a team to help Robin carry on when Fox is gone. The batwing returns but the batmobile is replaced by a new generation tank-car (which is accessed in the city instead of the cave).

Batsuit: A new batsuit is created with two stages. The first stage is for missions focused on espionage and scaling buildings. The first stage is flexible and thin with gloves and shoes that use a static bond to cling to surfaces allowing Batman to climb buildings. The second stage involves a new armor system for missions with expected gunfire.

Snake-Eyes-vs.-Roadblock-in-G.I.-Joe-Retaliation-.jpg

The cape would be folded into the back and arms of the suit and would deploy and take shape as wings; utilizing the same memory material that Wayne used for his cape.

The helm would cover the whole face, be molded to appear as a face, and feature black lenses (which would reflect the white of the set/city lights).

img-won_batman_beyond_01.jpg

The ears on the mask would be short and would be straight on the outside silhouette instead of curving in like cat ears.

Villain/Story: The central villain driving the film is the terrorist known as The Riddler (Javier Bardem). He doesn't have a ticking time nuke; just old fashioned explosives, gasoline, and guns. Similar to The Joker, he isn't after money; but he isn't out to watch the world burn either. The Joker was hired by the mob to get the Batman, but after the events of The Dark Knight Rises; there is ultimately a political struggle for power over the city.

The Riddler is financed by the Penguin (Daniel Day Lewis) and utilized to win him the election for mayor in the end of the film. The Penguin is the ultimate villain for the next trilogy-- the most evil character of all; in power and waging his war against both Batman and any criminals rocking his boat. The Riddler is a patsy.

Nice idea. Who would you have starring as the Riddler.

The Beyond stuff looks cool. But Javier Bardem for Riddler, and Daniel Day Lewis for Penguin is a mistake imo. I dont really like the story involving riddler though, it sounds like the same thing with Joker. No matter what kind of movie Riddler is in next, they need to do what they can to seperate him from the Joker.

I want premature baby Damian Wayne !! (5 months right ? I think its possible that Talia was pregnant)

With those great genes (Al Ghul and Wayne) he could have survived...:woot:

Corporate war begins for the rebuilt of Gotham... Batman's sucrifice inspired the rest of the DC universe to come out and fight.... In Gotham Robin Blake fights his war with Gordon to keep the streets safe from the mobthat has taken the opportunity to rise again in the faces of coblepot and Sionis. Blake does that without a mask believing that this is the example will shake other men out of apathy... He becomes close to a young orphan named Richard Grayson who's parents were killed in the circus by Tony Zucco, a man working for the penguin... In his my mind the orphan has Blake as his childhood hero... Meanwhile out of Gotham Bruce, is trying to do what his mentor did, to make a league of his own protecting not only Gotham but the rest of the world ( enter justice league). When Blake is killed he returns to pick up the cowl again...

Take away Riddler's nukes. Make him an off-kilter social Darwinist.

The Riddler wouldn't be a rerun of The Joker; though he would be a force of nature driving the events of the picture. The Riddler is unique and his crimes would be unique from Joker's social experiments.

Nice idea. Who would you have starring as the Riddler.

Thanks. I ended up suggesting Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men).

I'm not totally sure about the casting ideas-- I just like both of those actors and know they can bring something unique to the villains.

This thread's been kinda quite for a while. Here's my idea for a fourth Batman film...though it would probably makes fans of TDKR and the Nolan trilogy a bit mad if it were made.

A few years after the events of TDKR, the city of Gotham is still struggling to recover from the damage left behind by LOS. Progress has been extremely slow and the issues which led to the disparity between rich and poor still remain. In alot of ways Gotham city is still a city divided.

The Dent Act has expired , and many of the criminals who were set free during the Blackgate prison break remain at large while the Underworld has a new leader , known as The Black Mask who's taken over what's left of the Falcone mob family. Its clear the city needs a Batman more then ever. There are rumors that Batman has returned and that he didn't die , but for now its considered a myth amoung those who live in the slums.

John Blake, on the other hand has given the city a new dark knight,. He's less flashy then Bruce's version and prefers to remain in the shadows and to remain a myth. However Blake has found that the role is much harder than he imagined it would be. He's used the contacts and informants that he had as a police officer but nobody can seem to get inside the Mask's organization. At the same time, mask is recruit the same type of orphans and youngsters that Blake want's to turn away from crime. The Black Mask, and with the use of assasins such as deadshot is brutal and has challenged the new Batman in every way.

Bruce and Selina , in the meanwhile live in Italy under new names and new identies enjoying the domestic life as a married couple. They now have a daughter Helena and have left their prior lives behind. However, Bruce still moniters the slow progress that has been occurring in Gotham. While Bruce is troubled by the new developments , he's the happiest he's ever been , and he's not willing to give that up.

At the same time Selina , is shaken by the re-emergence of the Falcone family and its new head Black Mask. There is still alot about Selina's past that Bruce doesn't know about but he doesn't press the issue. However Selina's past apears to come back to haunt her once she begins to recieve strange emails and messages. She clearly has an idea of what they're alluding to but she doesn't tell Bruce , and they argue anytime he presses the issue.

Gordon has retired as Commisoner and settled down with an old friend detective Sarah Essen. He still keeps in touch with Blake and gives him advice from time to time but he's out of the game. Essen on the other hand is desperate to take down the Black Mask organization and to try to keep Gotham together.

Things go from bad to worse once Blakes Batman is led into a trap by one of Blake's teenage informants who working for Black Mask. Caught off guard , Blake is killed while Lucius monitors his vital signs. Lucius tries to get in touch with Alfred who he believes lives in France. Sarah Essen is also taken out in an odvious mod stlye hit.

A few days later Selina is killed and Bruce mysteriously recieves part of Blakes Batman cowl. Bruce is devistated and angry. He takes Helena to Alfred who brings him up to speed on the information he learned from Fox. Bruce now has no choice . He leaves Helena with Alfred who tries to talk Bruce out of it , pointing out that he has a daughter to live for. Bruce argues that theyll come for Helena if he doesn't go back . Bruce must return to Gotham and don the cowl again in order to stop Black Mask and discover who killed Selina.

He returns to gotham with one identity, Batman. At the same time he's found a Gordon close to the edge with grief. The two men need each other and decide to work together again to take out the common enemy which destroyed both of their lives. In the end they take out the Black Mask and his syndicate but soon discover that he had nothing to do with the killings of Blake, Selina, and Sarah.

As it turns out the Joker was behind the messages and the killings of Blake, Selina and Sarah and did it as a means of bringing Bruce and Gordon back into the game. Joker explains knowing Bruce's identity was only a means to an end in order to get him back out and that he couldn't except the "pretender" and the idea that Gordon and Bruce would just "give up" . Joker also hates Black Mask and see's him as a Johnny come lately and see's an added advantage of bringing Batman back in order to crush him .

Anyway that's what I would do though , the fans would never go for a new actor playing the Joker , but to me that's how i'd do it.

I had the idea that Blake used the bat computer databases to assist the police force or something like that. Not working for the police (throwing away the badge) but lending a helping hand and passing on information, while possibly going out a doing his crime fighting thing. Just a thought.

How Would You Continue the Story from TDKR---I think this fiction gives some great ideas--a possible direction for next DC movie

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8344110/1/Adaptation

exquisite, pretty good story line, many scenario are quite touching

John Blake becomes Nightwing ,and Bruce just can't put on his cowl anymore---incapable both mentally and physically-(his role is more like what Alfred states in TDKR--This city needs Bruce Wayne, your resources, your knowledge. It doesn't need your body, or your life) ,and it take the first step to link up with Clark/Lois's universe

Favs: 496---I think it is the highest mark in Batman's movie category

warning--this fiction is suitable for teens, 13 years and older, with some violence, minor coarse language, and minor suggestive adult themes

maybe you will like this one

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8344110/1/Adaptation

----------------------------

the fans would never go for a new actor playing the Joker---it is not fair Joker as a DC movie character die with Heather Ledger(may he rest in peace)

Frodo, it seems like a few of us have a lot of similarities with our fan-fictions, but of course a few differences too. Im creating the concept for mine at the moment, and i gotta say, your ideas are pretty damn good. Mine is more spread out in a trilogy, and if it was me, i wouldn't kill off Blakes Batman that soon. Maybe by the 2nd or 3rd story to give it even more impact and Bruce more time for peace. But obviously that's just me.

You dont have to worry about the fans not going for a new actor to play Joker. Cuz a continuation will never happen on film anyway. So we can bring the Joker back all we want. I feel like Joker needs to return, in a "Return of the Joker" or Dark Knight Returns style. The guy is just too damn smart to not break out of Arkham. Even if a film was made, Joker will have aged, had a bit of a haircuit and be a little bit more mature but even deadlier so it wouldn't bother me if a different actor went for it. Heath would have probably welcomed it.

Essen, Barbara Gordon (in the role of the Oracle but without the actual name), Black Mask, Penguin, Riddler, Mr Freeze are in my trilogy. I have little cameos by some other rogues as well. At this point though, Freeze/Riddler will only be included if i find the right story because i wont just toss them in there for the sake of it. Which Nolan never liked to do either.

RickFox, im gonna see if i have time to read that link soon. Seems like that one is involving Nightwing? Mine starts out with Blake as a version of Robin/Nightwing but like Nolans Catwoman...that name is never uttered. So he starts out this way in the first story and he officially gets the cape/cowl by the end. It's an extremely demonic looking Beyond cowl. Of course with the black & red cape which will already match Robins suit.
