The Dark Knight Rises How Would You Continue the Story from TDKR? (Spoilers)

World greatest detective eh? Well you know..Blake has that DETECTIVE experience :cwink:

No continuation, but if/when they reboot... I want some more of the fantastical elements...

I would do a requel of the series. The events of Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises did happen. Although they are only loosely connected.

For example the Dent Act was passed, but Batman would only have been gone for three years.

Dent's death was faked and a part of the conspiracy.

Batman left with Catwoman, but they eventually went their separate ways. The film would begins with a scene between Fox and Bruce and refrences to him being dead.

John Blake would get established as a superhero.

However, the aesthetic would be changed. So things like R'as appearing to Bruce could have actually been him.

My first villains would be Hush and Riddler. Riddler because he is obsessed with discovering the identity of Gotham's saviour, and the new imposter. Hush because he wants to acquire the huge profits made by the Wayne Foundation in light of Wayne's donation of his estate to charity.

Riddler would be more like a strategic terrorist whose plans would slowly build from small time kidnappings and given the Saw treatment to a plan to incorporate the whole city. Hush would be targeting Wayne, silently attacking him during daylight hours, making him seem like he has lost his mind with paranoia.

John would begin as a successor to Batman, but then traditions into Nightwing (I feel Robin should be explored differently).

The costume would be less obviously armour.

Okay, so Bruce gets to go away with Selina....but if Gotham ever needed him again, the signal is restored, Bruce can return as Batman, and "Robin" keeps an eye on things but when Bruce returns, he has Robin, Alfred, and Selina at his side. That's my take on it, anyway.

The more I think about it, the more I agree....I really don't know another way to everything that happens at the end together.

Also, there was so much packed in to the TDKR that I wish there was a third film between TDK and TDKR...

I'm actually hoping for a small but cool movie next. Like a GCPD vs The Riddler. I wouldn't mind it taking place during the 8 year leave. I really like Oldmans Jim Gordan so he would be the star of the show.

The tone of the movie would be 1 part PI and 1 part 7even in a "Riddler Begins" type movie so the GCPD can handle him.... for now.

Like most people, all I've done for about 26 hours now is contemplate a continuation. Blake being Batman. Blake being Red Robin. Blake as Nightwing. Blake the Musical. So many possibilities.

As I said in the General Discussion Thread, I think this is Nolan's gift to the fans. The continuation is whatever each of us wants it to be. For me, that will change depending on my mood. Right now, I'm on the "Blake being Batman" train. Tomorrow, or in a week, it may be different.

I really wouldn't continue it for 2 reasons, #1, Bruce accomplished his goal thus bringing the series to a close and #2, I don't really care to see anymore Blake/Robin/Batman. Bruce Wayne or bust for me.

This.

No more from this series for me. Let's start fresh.

I wouldn't mind Blake being the new Batman but it would be interesting because he needs to be trained because we all saw that Blake is a little sloppy when it comes to hand to hand. And batman needs to be a badass fighter.

But i honestly see them rebooting it it would be very ballsy if WB decided to continue where they left off at the end of TDKR

I'd continue it with the words "The End" after the credits. That's it. I would not continue it given that it was written as a definitive ending of this version of the Bat universe. I'd respect that and let it end like this, which means not even wasting time hypothesizing where it could go.

I agree.

I will say, when the credits rolled, all I wanted was to see more, but I' don't think we should- especially seeing all the different takes/opinions on it.

Like scifiwolf mentions, what happens next is whatever each one of us wants it to be. And I personally find that pretty fantastic, as it's up to our imagination.
I'm also still going with Blake being the new Batman, although there are other great suggestions/ideas/opinions on there, but for now, I like dreaming up mine.
Even if my idea of it changes down the road, I still believe it's a terrific feeling knowing that in this universe Nolan created, the legend of the Dark Knight lives on. :yay:

The city is mourning the loss of their hero. Blake sees the sadness in his orphans over witnessing what happened that day on the bridge. Although Batman has saved Gotham it doesn't take back what they lost. Someone they believed in and held faith in.

Meanwhile, Gordon with Blake's help start to oversee the construction of holding cells to house the recaptured villains who Bane broke out. Blake does not take on the Batman costume yet, instead opting for a guise very similar to Bruce's pre-Batman. The city doesn't have any clue that this is going on and they keep it that way. Blake is also very adamant about not being Batman at this point so the villains aren't confused. This is someone new.

Meanwhile, a new criminal element rises spearheaded by Black Mask. He threatens the city by mocking that their hero is dead and gone and they have no one to save them.

Blake, having seen this decides that he has to come back and be the symbol that Gotham needs however hesitant about it. Gordon too is hesitant. Blake tells him that he is also, but the city needs hope. He goes to stop a crime as Batman and is caught on camera signaling his return.

Black Mask is taken in by the footage because he knows Batman from the time in-between BATMAN BEGINS and THE DARK KNIGHT and knows this man couldn't be Batman. He furthers his organization and brainwashes civilians into joining his growing cult (never called the 'false facers') proclaiming that the replacement can't be Batman.

Blake starts to doubt himself. And Alfred, having also seen the footage, returns to the cave where he questions Blake about what he's doing, why he's doing it and if he's ready for what he signed on for. He doesn't give any hints that he knows that Bruce is alive. He just tells him that Bruce was always looking for someone to take up the mantle. Blake tells him that sometimes he is uncertain if he is that guy. Alfred helps to guide him and by the end naturally becomes a sort of surrogate father figure to him (to match this we also see Blake becoming a father figure to the orphans).

With Alfred's and Gordon's help, Blake takes on the mantle of Batman. The city starts to regain it's hope and faith as they see Batman has risen from the ashes to protect them once again. He fights Black Mask in a populated area of Gotham City for everyone to see. He's about to kill him with his fists when he stops. Black Mask asks him why. Blake merely tells him, "I'm Batman." Black Mask mocks him that he never will be.

Blake tells Alfred that for everyone else he'll be the Batman, but to him he can't completely be and needs to do things his own way. He is okay with being Batman's replacement and wants to carve out his own legacy as well. Alfred accepts that and tells him he'll help in any way that he can. Knowing that the mansion is not suitable for the manor because of the orphaned and at risk youth, Blake relocates it to another Wayne estate similar to the penthouse.

Gordon, with the city seeing Batman's return, lights the bat-symbol up into the sky. Bruce, with Salina, sees the inauguration of lighting it up and smiles knowing that Blake is finally ready.

Plus - one of the at risk children? Jason Todd. Along the way he becomes more and more suspicious of Blake and Blake notices this and ultimately this is why he relocates the batcave out of the mansion. However, the sequel will see the repercussions of this.

In the finale (of the Blake trilogy) Bruce Wayne will return just like he did in the comics. And for those who didn't catch on, yes - a lot of the above is inspired by Dick Grayson's Batman arc. I really think they have a lot going for them, and like Batman Year One being Batman Begins & Knightfall and No Man's Land being The Dark Knight Rises, this should be heavily comics inspired with a real world grounding in it.

Many will be tempted to have Bruce come in earlier, but I think that is way too much. You need time to acclimate to Blake taking on the mantle. Bruce will appear somewhat in a sequel and definitively in the final chapter. In the final chapter, Blake will become Nightwing, Todd will become Robin, and Bruce will become a Batman who acts only when it is essential leaving most of it up to his younger proteges who he has become more of a mentor of - imagine a younger Batman Beyond kind of Bruce Wayne and you've got it.

Also the plot should in some way reflect the audience adjusting to Blake in the costume. Thus, having the film be about that adjustment - it works. Also going along with the christ-like allegories from the past that people pointed out to... resurrection. Every time I see that bus filled with children chanting "Batman!" I don't see them as being able to really understand Batman dying - to them it's still a hard tragedy. Because what Batman has meant for them has gone. They need someone. And that would serve as Blake's main motivator. He is their champion just like Bruce was to him.

Basically, JUST REPEAT WHAT THE COMICS DID - BUT DIFFERENT.

Just like...

BATMAN BEGINS - BATMAN YEAR ONE, THE MAN WHO FALLS.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES - KNIGHTFALL, BATMAN: NO MAN'S LAND.

For those claiming "it ruins retirement" for Bruce to be brought back like that in the end. Not really. I'd still see him with Salina, living peacefully with Alfred, and enjoying himself from time to time like his 'good old days' which by that point he would start to miss. In a degree, he'd be like an Alfred who can really help them solve things, be proactive, and once in a while do field work. To me, that's still a retirement and true to Batman all the way around. I can't see him forever hanging up the cape so to speak, but rather stepping back mostly to leave it to the younger generation to continue his legacy. I didn't see Bruce as anything but really 'retired' in Batman Beyond.

Also, as said, I definitely agree with those who have said bringing Bruce back immediately is the wrong way to go. One scene at the end of the sequel, perhaps two in the second sequel, then bring him back for everything to come full circle in the end of the second trilogy. Or one scene in the sequel, none in the second sequel, then his return in the end of the second act of the final sequel. The focus should instead be on Blake and Gotham and legacy. The way Blake, the mansion, and the boy's home have been set up? It definitely lends itself to a younger orphaned or at-risk Robin stumbling upon Blake's secret. Nolan left us with A LOT.

A Nightwing movie with JGL would be great...Catwoman prequel since you're left wanting more of her.

I doubt there would be a JGL Robin/Nightwing/New Batman movie though. Something with Catwoman might be possible, if Jonathan Nolan were to want to make it.

Definitely continue, and please add Batgirl, a Batgirl that is not cheesy! I can totally see either Chloe Moretz or Elle Fanning playing her!

Thats a good mention. Jonathan Nolan might be the Nolan to keep everything together.

I'd see him as the one continuing Blake's arc. In the making of book the whole orphan angle was his idea. :woot:

The Nolan series is done. The ending is best left to the interpretation of the viewer.

Clean slate next go around.

First I would have Blake as Nightwing, not Batman because only one person can honestly be the Bat and that is Bruce. As its been said Bruce Wayne is the mask and his true identity is Batman.
I think I would have the film start as a flashback of Blake finding and being trained by Bruce like what happened in Begins.
The bad guy would be Hush posing as Bruce for revenge. Blake is unsure of whether Hush is actually Bruce as he looks, sounds and acts like Bruce. Though he kicks the childrens home out of Wayne Manor claiming that it belongs to him. This tips Blake off that its not Bruce and confronts him, and while he puts up a good fight he learns that he is no match for Hush.
Blake knowing that he doesnt stand a chance contacts Bruce and Selina who have been traveling the Europe with their daughter Helena and are currently living in a Vineyard that belongs to the Wayne Family. Selina knowing that Bruce needs to return convinces him and says that they couldnt hide from who they really are forever, that what they were doing was nice while it lasted but that it was time to return home.
Back in Gotham Jim runs up the stairs of the MCU to find that the Bat Signal is on and finds Bruce in the suit waiting for him. Surprised he asks why he returned and Bruce answers that Gotham needed him. Gordan asks him if the man posing as Bruce was really him, and Bruce tells him that it wasnt, and that he had returned to stop him from ruining his families image.
He then returns to the cave and surprises Hush in Wayne Manor and a fight ensues. He questions why Hush is dong what he's doing and Hush tells Bruce a story of two boys that were friends and how the boys father allowed his father to die and allowed his mother to live. Bruce recognizes the story and is startled to find that his childhood friend Tommy Elliot is now his enemy.
Bruce explains that his father did everything that he could to save his his father, but Elliot laughs and calls Bruce stupid for believing that everything that has happened is because of that. He tells him that he wanted both of his parents to die, that he had meant for it to happen but Thomas had ruined his chances to claim his family fortune. That everything that he's doing is in retribution of that, and then he escapes from the grounds, mockingly welcoming Bruce back.

I'm going to keep saying this, but the ending of TDKR pretty heavily implies that Blake will eventually take up the mantle of Batman. Nolan pretty much says this without actually saying it.

A new villain comes to Gotham.

Then Blake asks Alfred to call Bruce and Selina to come back to Gotham and help him fight the new villain.

We see Blake, Bruce and Selina fight the new villain with help of Alfred, Gordon and Lucius.

Poor and unoriginal but WB can do it. :)

Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle should not be in the potential sequel.

This is my idea for a fourth film

Either call it The Dark Knight Legacy or Nightwing

It takes place maybe a year after TDKR and Blake establishing himself as a new Batman, but he's pretty much going to be Nightwing. He'd be working with Lucius Fox, Gordon and possibly Alfred (Alfred sees Bruce in him and feels the gaping hole in his heart where Bruce was).

Barbara Gordon returns to Gotham, whose probably 19 maybe, but has done physical and computer training, so we see her working with Nightwing at the start, and maybe she gets shot by the main villain (next paragraph) and becomes Oracle and helps in the Batcave with Alfred.

For Villain, I'm seeing a crime lord like Black Mask and Victor Fries (not Mr. Freeze), whose working against his will for Mask who has his wife, and viciously attempts to do what Mask wants so he can get her back. Mask has a plan to release a toxin in the air (manufactured by Fries) that makes people feel extremely cold and will eventually kill them, but as Mask's alter ego Roman Sionis runs a pharmaceutical company, he perfects the antidote and gets rich off the vaccine, which will allow him to expand his criminal empire and rule Gotham city.

Its a bit more of a logical and less insane plan than others in the trilogy. Nightwing needs to get Fries on his side to take out Mask. Also I think that nobody knows Roman Sionis is Black Mask.

So characters in the film would be:

Robin John Blake/Nightwing - JGL
Barbara Gordon/Oracle - Carey Mulligan?
Jim Gordon - Gary Oldman
Lucius Fox - Morgan Freeman
Alfred (Possibly) - Michael Caine
Roman Sionis/Black Mask - Logan Marshall-Green?
Victor Fries - Bryan Cranston?

What do you think?

Jeez I wish only people with ideas would post in this thread. We get it, you don't think it should continued. But I believe this is for the people that WOULD like to see it go on. Everyone else is killing the fun here.

This.

No more continuation of Nolan-verse, it is better to leave it on a high point than stretch it like Donner verse which lead to Superman 3, 4 and SR.

Start with new vision, that allows Batman to be a part of larger DC Universe but keep things grounded, I would suggest the tone of The Amazing Spider-man by Marc Webb for the next Bat movies.

No reboot just start from an already established Batman having an experience of two years as a detective.

I agree. We shouldn't continue it. The only real way to do it would be The Dark Knight Returns, but this film already used many elements of it and would make it a rehash. I mean, who wants to see Blake as Batman/spin-off Batman hero? That'd be like making Mutt the hero in the Indiana Jones series after KotCS. People don't want that. They want Batman.

Just start fresh.

Hi I dont know if ive stolen ideas from anyone or anything i apologise if I have but this my idea.

Set a few years after the events of The Dark Knight Rises.
Gotham City DA Marion Grange http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mayors_of_Gotham_City is on a mission to clean up the mess caused in Gotham during the events of the Dark Knight Rises with the view to be fast tracked into the Mayors office currently being held by Mayor Armand Krol http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mayors_of_Gotham_City.

In there previous Years since TDNR and this beginning
John Blake have been coming to terms with the responsibilities that has been handed to him. Still not yet to Don the cape he has been doing some vigilante work clearing the streets of some petty crooks and small time criminals obviously keeping his face cover but how I don’t know maybe just ski mask or something.
Ok so a string of murders are occurring throughout Gotham all in a very similar fashion. Blake eventually done the famous cape and investigate.
During investigations Batman (Blake) pays a visit to guy that he knows can maybe help with his investigation. The owner of the Gotham City Restaurant and Casino The Ice Berg Lounge. This guy being Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot. Copplepot http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_penguin will assist as long as Batman aggress to help get DA Marion Grange off his back as she is moving in on Copplepot on some minor felonies he has committed himself.
(Maybe prior to this you could have Blake popping into the casino checking things out etc.)
(oh and obviously Copplepot is a bit shocked that Batman turns up due to hiom supposed to be dead)

So my thinking is that Victor Zsasz http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victor_Zsasz could come across ok in the Batman Universe so he was my choice for the villain in this movie idea. Especially like the idea of him scaring himself for every victim. We could have a plot in there where the main victim he is after is DA Marion Grange and him having a spot on his body for here mark etc..
So I don’t know how or if I would want Copplepot to have anymore involvement in this however this will give Batman the job or trying to Protect the DA while trying to protect copplepot from the DA.
Anyway story plays out Batman catches Zsaz he gets sentenced and locked away.

I would like the last scene or somewhere near the end to be Zsaz in chains walking through a door into a room and the door closing behind him with the name Dr. Harleen Frances Quinzel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harley_Quinn

This is just my idea of what I would like to see to start a new trilogy. No it might not be great and you can’t blame me for that I am not Chris Nolan but any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.
