How would YOU reboot the Fantastic 4?

I'm a big fan of Johnny starting off as a teenager. I could deal with adult. I just wish they'd stop trying to make him a full fledged adult turning the family into teammates.

I'd rather have Johnny be college-aged than a teenager or an full-grown adult. You can still have his dynamic with Peter with Johnny being a kind of "older brother/older friend" figure. Having him be a teenager would set him apart jarringly from the rest of the rest of FF4 and having him an adult would make them all too similar.

 casting someone who's 21-25 now would be perfect in my books.

I dunno how long they are going to play Peter Parker in the high school phase but it would be nice to have Johnny and Peter mix it up and become friends so they would need to be close in age. Honestly don't believe we will get an MCU Johnny before 2020 so no telling how old Peter will be by then. In college maybe.

He's supposedly 15 now and a freshman I think, so if we go by real time he'd be graduating in 2020. Which is when we'd probably get the sequel.

Eh, I'd still prefer a movie and honestly at this point, anything with "Marvel Studios" attached sells. It'll be 2020 at the earliest when we'd get a Fantastic 4 movie and I could see Marvel introducing them in other characters movies beforehand.

Yeah it definitely seems like this has been the case lately, and honestly MS probably could make this thin work. They haven't really given me any reason to doubt them. By 2020 the original franchises would be just about ending and it would probably be the perfect time for a F4 movie, it's just with the track record I think the safest route is the best route at this point. Until some things are proven to the fans, the general audience, and the studio themselves at this point ya know?

I would love a movie done right, but honestly folks this is Hollywood, money talks, BS walks. Right now there isn't a producer in Hollywood, including at Disney that would greenlight another big budget FF movie.

Option 1) A computer animated FF ala Big Hero 6. (probably won't fly with Incredibles 2 coming out)

Option 2) A new Netflix series. They'd have a bigger budget than an ABC show, because of the fewer episodes required.

Option 3) A fill in replacement series on ABC to Agent Carter. Again they'd have a better budget per episode due to the limited run, and would have another good prime time tie in to advertise other Marvel projects.

Option 4) Full blown ABC TV series. This is the most risky and the least likely to succeed. Network TV is dying other than reality series or spinoffs of known entities, ala Law and Order, NCIS, etc. The budget would be stretched thin (no pun intended) and the FF needs to have a good budget to do the kind of imaginative series they need to have.

Agreed. Tho I think at this point options 3 and 4 are the ones that the studio are most likely to go with. After the last three F4 movies it just makes the most business sense

I never really considered the idea that Marvel may be as reluctant as Sony to create another FF movie, but it does have to be considered, seeing as how the FF brand has suffered so much. I guess I just assumed Marvel would think their own "brand" would trump the negativity, but that is definitely a financial risk they might not be willing to take. Unfortunate, but that's reality.

Though the history of these movies suggest that studios think that a 5 year (approx) wait after a BO "underperformer" is enough to try a reboot without major risk (depends on the property, studio, and lots of other factors of course). The most important thing if that plan is attempted is to not talk about the property at all, so that people can have time to forget. Which, if the "FF back at Marvel in 2020" rumours are true, would actually justify Marvel's current silence about announcing it.

Marvel has ways to soften the blow of introducing their characters, though. Spider-Man is a great example and Hulk is sort of one too. If they're worried about the Fantastic Four, introduce Reed Richards.

Yep. Just introduce Reed and maybe even Sue in another film like Infinity War or even Black Panther. Heck, even a Guardians film.

And I get attacked for saying Banner might not be in Ragnarok. Did you clear this rampant speculation with MbJ? Was there paperwork I didn't file properly?

But yeah, shoving FF anywhere in Phase 3 is the very definition of shoe-horning.

Dream cast. Not sure about Doom these days. I used to say Mads Mikkelsen. But he's taken in the MCU now. I'm thinking Javier Bardem could probably hack it?

I don't know about anywhere. There are two places it could work - Captain Marvel and Infinity War. Captain Marvel would be an awkward fit. But Infinity War could make sense. Basically, if they need exposition about something space related, they could turn to Reed Richards. I would suggest skipping the FF origin and have him already have powers (it could be a visually interesting way to deliver exposition).

Is it necessary? I think they could use Selvig instead. But it could be an opportunity to test the waters, if they had the rights.

Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic- Jason Clarke (Terminator Genisys, White House Down, Zero Dark Thirty)

Sue Storm/Invisible Woman- Alice Eve (Star Trek Into Darkness)

Johnny Storm/The Human Torch- Dylan O'Brien (The Maze Runner series)

Ben Grimm/The Thing- Joel Edgerton (Warrior, Great Gatsby)

Victor Von Doom/Dr. Doom- Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

Hell, I'll take a stab at this. Tony Stark is sitting at a meeting half-listening while he tinkers with the next generation Iron Man helmet (think a hybrid between Bleeding Edge and All New! All Different!) when it's brought up by Pepper or Happy or whomever is in charge of Stark Enterprises hammers home the point that their stock has been dropping for the last three months due to Tony being distracted with his Avenging in general and the Civil War in particular. Furthermore, they've been losing marketshare to a company called "The Future Foundation", led by an Elon Musk-esque Reed Richards. Reed is an electronics and technological genius while his childhood friend Ben Grimm is the mechanical hands-on type as well as the one who keeps Reed grounded in reality.

The Future Foundation's primary source of buzz has been the latest generation of all-electric Fantasticars, a prototype vehicle that harnesses and improves upon the repulsorlift technology that Howard Stark and his son both worked on and adds in things like self-drive and improved AI that helps the owner be more productive in general. In secret, Reed and Ben have been working on their one dream project - private space travel. Reed can get the electronics to work, Ben can design the ship with the aerodynamics and engines and design the nuts and bolts down to the last clip, but they need someone who is an expert in astrophysics and space telemetry to help them put the finishing touches on the project - Reed's estranged former college roommate, Victor von Doom.

After come cajoling and begging, Victor signs on to the project and the relationship appears to begin to thaw and he and Reed start to get closer. Ben still doesn't fully trust Victor, however.

Finally, with Victor's help they break down the final obstacles of (insert science problem here) and have a planned test flight involving Reed, flight engineer Ben Grimm, pilot Johnny Storm, and his sister evolutionary biologist Dr. Susan Storm. They take off, yada, yada, yada cosmic rays and when they come back it's revealed that Von Doom (who had been working as an ersatz mission control) had sabotaged the flight because he was still jealous of Reed from their college days and wanted to "win" once and for all, even if it meant killing the other three alongside Reed. Victor takes off to his homeland of Latveria in order to take advantage of their non-extradition policy with the US.

Continue the story from the early issues of the comics with the underground monsters leading to a confrontation with Mole Man. With the Mole Man finally defeated, and the public cheering, the Four see on the news a story about a coup taking place in Latveria, with Victor Von Doom taking over the country, putting on the ceremonial armor and renaming Latveria Castle Doomstadt.

Honestly I would leave Doom out of a reboot. He's possibly my all time fictional character but he's been the villain 4 times now, counting Corman's (still the best version to date, sadly). Fantastic Four is 50+ years old, they can come up with something new. Use VVD later, as a figure out of Reed's past with an axe to grind

Honestly, I'd start with getting Dr. Victor von Doom absolutely right. Dr. Doom is the ace up that IP's sleeve. But every single time they've tried adapting it they've ****ed it up. Doom is Marvel's Joker. I went there.

From Doom's back story I'd then branch off to Richard and from Richard to Ben, and finally the Storms.

For all it's faults Fant4stic got young Reed and Ben right... and then everything fell apart.

Been a long time since I've been on here.

Anyway.

The origin should be mostly skipped, but we start when they are still fairly new to the superhero gig. The spaceflight and crash should happen during infinity war, maybe a news report on tv or after-credit scene. It would Reeds attempt at interstellar flight after the discovery of aliens in the MCU, that makes the most sense.

These are the roles the team has:

Reed - Genius at most fields but specializing in physics. Leader, but gets swept up in his work too easily. See's situations too black and white, often losing the human element. But his heart is in the right place. Sue usually stops him from going too far in the pursuit of science. His guilt of what he did is key to his character.

Sue - Normal Doctor or Surgeon, leaning more to doctor. Second in command, and shows more leadership skills than Reed at times. Keeps the team grounded, and is the people person. While Reed worries about the facts she worries about the people. Most powerful member of the team. Her trying keep the family together is key to her character.

Ben - Ex Air force pilot. Reeds best friend since college. The heart of the team, completely average joe. He is where we get most of the heartfelt scenes, due to his transformation. Quick to temper, but otherwise a big ol softie. Blames Reed for what happened, but still cares about him. His pain, and trying to live as the Thing is key to his character

Johnny - Mechanic/studying to be one. aged 19-23. The joker of the team, most of the comedy comes with his interactions with the rest, especially Ben. Welcomes the fame and heroics. First one at the scene of a fight, and gets his ass kicked a few times because of it. Hot headed (of course) and impatient. Usually, can only be reigned in by Sue. His immaturity hides his fear. Trying not grow up, but has to is key to his character.

Dr Doom - WAIT UNTIL THE SEQUEL!

The main antagonist would be Mole Man and his giant monster. We haven't seen superheroes fight giant monsters yet in the movies. So it would be something new. The point of the film is introducing and showcasing the characters without the origin. The focus is on family and how the fame/superheroics tests their bond. What it means to be family is the recurring theme. The film would be packed with good action. Every single one of the previous iterations had horrible and very little action.

Also, more interaction between Ben/Sue and Reed/Johnny. All the previous films failed at that. Johnny sees Reed as a father figure/ older brother. And Reed sees potential for greatness in Johnny. Sue should see Ben as a brother, the only other person she can confide in who is not her husband or little brother. Ben should see Sue as moral support, helping him with living as the Thing.

Mikael Persbrandt for Dr. Doom.

For that purpose, I think Doom should be introduced in the first film, but not be the villain. He's such a complex character, he needs time to be properly established before finally going toe to toe with the F4. And Andrew Scott is still my top choice.

Alice Eve as Sue Storm is possibly my absolute favorite fan cast...The one I want to happen the most.

I don't particularly see that (and I certainly can't say the images chosen help).

i would get the marvel creative team to work with me in creating a original organic comic book move that takes elements from the comic book !

I like Keanu Reeves, but I can't really see him doing "cosmic supergenius".
