I think the best scene is when Kirk provokes Spock into losing his control.

The prologue is one of the best, though.

And is it just me, or does Kirk get chased by the Cloverfield monster?

I need to apologize to Abrams. It turns out after some digging, he was actually not that happy with the script. Probably to do with certain contrived plot points discussed in this thread? In any case, because of the writers strike, he could not make those corrections. This confuses me, because I thought he could edit it himself as a director... no?

As a fan of TOS I must say..IT WAS PHENOMENAL. I seriously can't believe they made a PERFECT Star Trek movie that EVERYONE can enjoy! It looks like the stigma of being a "Trekkie" has finally been diminished. J.J. I got new respect for you brotha!

The actors were great! Pine was perfect as the cocky but smart Kirk. Do I even need to say anything about Quinto? Saldana breathed new life into the renowned Uhura and nailed it . Bana was awesome as Nero. Seriously everyone was great I want to see again!

He can edit the footage he films, but he was unable to rewrite scenes or alter the script while they were filming due to strike guidelines.

Winona Ryder.

I thought she was a really bad case of stunt-casting gone awry. She brought nothing to her miniscule role, was unnecessary to the production and her presence was more distracting than anything. An unknown would have worked just as well and spared viewers from whispering to their friends: "Is that Winona Ryder???"

Saw Star Trek on Saturday with a group of friends. Both of them familiar with the Star Trek canon but not Trekkies (Trekkers) by any means necessary and I've only watched TOS in full and random episodes of Next Generation-Voyager on television.

We all loved it. I thought it was beautifully crafted with a cast that really blended their own unique performance with a respectful homage to the cast of TOS.

I felt completely immersed within the world that Abrams created. When the movie ended I felt frustrated because I knew I'd have to wait for the sequel to see these brilliantly handled characters back on the silver screen some time from now.

I'm going to see this movie multiple times. I tip my hat off to everyone involved with the project and Paramounts bravery for taking such a tremendous and risky task in rejuvenating a franchise that seriously needed it.

5/5 - :ST:

Ok after seeing it again I've got to change my score. I'm going to drop it to a 7 from a 9.

There's just too many plot holes in it for me to give it a higher score.
The first time at the theatre I was just in awe of the characters and how right they got them. I let the plot holes slide. 2nd time around I was more critical in watching it. and I just couldn't get over the huge gap in logic from everyone.

just one example but it's a huge one. Why didn't Nero finding himself 150 yrs or so in the past before Romulus was destroyed by the nova just go to Romulus and convince them that the star was going to go boom in 150 yrs? he had his ship for evidence. the tech of the ship was from the future. Surely it would give them pause enough to verify. Especially if Spock showed up 25 yrs later with the same story. Spock could even meld with them to make them understand.
But no one gave one thought to preventing it from happening in the first place.

*shrug*

I really felt like they didn't give Nero enough background and motivation. If you read the Countdown books you'd understand a bit more. Why he was so incensed. But if I lost my world and found myself in a situation to prevent it...well my mind would not be on vengeance for something that hadn't happened yet. I'm surprised the crew didn't mutiny while waiting for 25 yrs.

Now i have never been much of a trek fan

i knew of the legendary james t kirk but that was it

After being blown away by the trailers and being somewhat of a fan of the director and zachary quinto due to heroes my nine bucks was already spent

the cast was awesome, and todays technology is just what a franchise like trek needed, the ship looked real :wow:

overall I loved the movie, it blew me away...... lets just say i plan to rent the older movie out now and have a marrathon

just goes to show, not every reboot fails given the proper treatment

11/10 from me :word:

ok what you are talking about is the eqivalent of going to colonial america to prevent 9/11...would you try warning someone or would you wait for Bin Laden to come thru the blackhole????

Well, I think Nero knew that he was in a new time line, that saving Romulus wouldn't restore "his" Romulus. On top of that, he was stranded in the past, he had only traveled back here by accident and he would still be parted from his wife no matter what he could do.

There are deleted scenes with her....we can't truely judge her performance or her total contribution to the movie as originally intended until we see that.

Excuses, excuses. :o

Whatever was released is her performance.

you can spend your life waiting for someone who may or may not ever come through the hole in your lifetime if you want. the more logical plan would be to go to Romulus with your advanced technology and a warning.
I would imagine if you showed up in colonial America in a jet powered helicopter with iPods to dole out they'd listen to you.

seriously 25 yrs is a long time to get a crew to wait for something that may or may not happen. Just to hang out in space. When you have a chance at a workable plan.

what would be more important to these people? saving their planet or revenge?

Do you think our leaders would ignore someone from 120 yrs in the future who had knowledge of events and technology surpassing present day?

He was saying she brought nothing to her miniscule role....considering that her role was apparently originally larger....then it is a legitament response.

You're expecting an enraged and demented man to behave logically. He was so upset over what had happened that perhaps he didn't think through all of the available options. Like one other poster had said -- Some men just want to see the world burn. :)

This film rocked truly awesome, Zachary Quinto was amazing in this movie. I was starting to doubt his talent due to his current performance of heroes but dam that guy certainly held his own in this movie. Chris Pine was also good..............hell the entire cast was awesome. Lol the word awesome and this film go hand in hand, like many I am not a Star Trek fan and yet I found this film very enjoyable. Overall this was a thrilling experience at the movies and I would recommend this film to all 10/10.

I just assumed it wasn't so much about the loss of his planet, but more the loss of his family. It's too late to prevent it, because it already happened. Even if he found a way back to his own time in the correct time-line, she'd still be dead. This was about revenge now. Not about salvation.

It made sense to me.

Nero doesn't care about saving the alternate Romulus. His wife doesn't even exist yet in the "alternate timeline" and the wife and family he knew and loved are long gone once they were obliterated by the supernova in the "prime reality".

Once this became apparent to Nero he just wanted to get revenge on the Federation because he held all of them responsible in a way and wanted this "alternate Romulus" to have a larger influence and control without the restrictions of the Federation.

No, they'd attack/burn/kill you for being a "witch" most likely. As for this plot hole, I thought of it more so as Nero getting his revenge on Spock, then moving on to go to Romulus, yet due to the Federation interfering, he had to deal with them, ultimately screwing him over in any hope of getting back home in the present day.

I thought she did fine but you're right, I guarantee every theater in America had someone whisper to the person sitting next to them, "Is that Winona Ryder?"

I agree that she was fine. But why cast her when a lesser known actor (ala Ben Cross as Spock's dad) would have done just as well, and without the distraction factor.

Maybe she was a fan that wanted a part in it, like Tyler Perry.
