I LOOVED Hulk, personally, and I don't care what anyone says either. Ang Lee is a genius filmmaker.

And by the way, did you guys just miss the half hour action sequence where Hulk destroys San Fransisco?

^Read a Hulk comic book. Most of the time the whole comic he is destoying everything in sight.

If you dont care what anyone says, why post a discussion thread about it?

It was really just a psychological thriller... a semi-comic-book related "A Beautiful Mind"

But, as Wizard once said, when the Hulk finally shows up in his own movie, he REALLY shows up, kicks ass and whatnot.

Just Read World War Hulk. One Comic of those has more action than the 2 hour movie did.
But World War Hulk is hardly a good or the only example of Hulk comics.

There's been much, MUCH better Hulk issues where there's very little action, and much more psychological exposition.

I was just showing the lack in action thats all.

The 2003 Ang Lee Hulk movie was a great movie.

The Hulk character has always been about more than just ‘Hulk Smash.’ Sure we all love it when Hulk does indeed smash something, but if the story is reduced to just that then there is no redeeming value to it. For me, without Bruce Banner’s struggle to not give into the mindless rage, the Hulk loses all meaning. Bruce’s struggle mirrors our own struggle with the Man or Monster within. This struggle gives humanity to an otherwise flat character.

Father issues, does it get any more primal than this? At the core of who we are, we find our parents, whether a reaction against, an embracing, or an accident. Bruce’s issues with his father are at the heart of the character. If any of you have read the Peter David run leading up to the unified personality then you know what I’m talking about here.

As for the movie itself I have no complaints. Does it really require waiting 45 minutes to see Hulk? The answer is yes if you want to care about the characters at all. I want Bruce and Betty to work out even though it’s impossible. I want Bruce to not be in the room when the radiation hits. I like the characters. Nick Nolte is genius. I believe the man might be truly demented. Should he have become the Absorbing Man – probably not, but I still think this was one of the most moving screen adaptations of a comic.

^ Just seemed to me hulk became a chick flick instead of an action movie...

I didn't mind this movie at all. Maybe that's because I never really got into Hulk comics though *shrugs*

I'll back ya up brother! I'll just say I thought I was the only person in the world who liked this movie. Though I am even more excited about the next one. I loved that Ang Lee took it seriously and it was actually character driven. But I still don't understand why people complained about the action in the movie. I thought it rocked. Sure it took awhile to get started but for the most part I thought it was well paced. The only thing I REALLY didn't like about it was the comicbook panels in the film. It's a cool idea but it takes you out of the movie and they way they did it didn't really make any sense.
Even though I liked it I have to admit when this movie came out I was very much into drugs so that could have had somthing to do with it but I'm clean now and when I watch it on DVD I still find it enjoyable. And I'm not one of these fanboys who likes every movie he sees only because it's based on a comic. DareDevil, the frist FF, Elektra, and The Punisher all sucked imo. Also Ghost Rider could have been WAY better.

To see if anyone else agrees. Personally I loved the movie but I couldn't give a rat's ass if most people don't. But it's still nice to find out about other people who do.

Just because everybody went in expecting some action fest that the misleading trailer showed it to be, doesn't mean it's bad that you were actually made to think!

But I guess the sequel shall recieve the fanboy seal of approval, seeing as it's sure to appeal to action hungry audiences rather than give us character development and story WITH some good action sequences on the side.

More than ever i agree with this, the new one sounds like a terrible cliche in a script. It sounds poo and the uniqueness of Ang's movie is now becoming even more prevailent.

So if your going to see 300 were you waiting for a lame movie with no action?!

I for one thought HULK was a wonderful film. A great investigation into the human psyche and how mental anguish can manifest physical pain. It was a very smart movie. The biggest downfall of the movie was not the actual film itself, but the marketing strategy. It was marketed as an action film for younger people. I think people went in expecting a knock down drag out action flick. It was a let down for most people wanting to see that.

Ang Lee made a great social commentary film. Not a chick flick per se. Thought provoking with great character development. Unfortunately, it ws a hard sell and there was back-pedaling from the studio when it was not well received. Bottom line, marketing really painted this amazing film into a corner.

Exactly, it was something more than the usual blockbuster fare, and more thought provoking as well, which i was personally thankful for.
