Infinity War "I Will Bathe The Starways In Your Blood!" The Thanos / Josh Brolin Thread - Part 1

I wouldn't say he ticks the first box. His actual plot is pretty vague and stupid. It felt kinda tacked on.

Whats Vague about oppressing who he sees as the oppressors around the world using the might of Wakanda?

His plan sounds good on paper but it wasn't thought through at all.

Are you being serious? Killmonger's plot is vague and stupid? He wants to know where was Wakanda when black people suffered hundreds of years of suffering. He wants the oppressed to become the oppressors and he wants to use Wakanda's advanced technology and weapons to achieve that goal.
What's vague or stupid about that?

Exactly Terry. I understood what he was trying to achieve... but i didn't understand how he was trying to achieve it.

Sending loads of high tech weapons out to a handful of places around the world? What is that really going to achieve other than just loads of people getting killed?

Thematically Killmonger is very interesting. And MBJ is fantastic. But in practical terms, his methods and his final scheme are just kinda dumb. Like I said, his plot of sending Wakadan weapons out into the world seems tacked on. Incomplete even.

The reasons why he wants to do that are interesting. I understand his anger and hate.

But yes, sending advanced tech out into the world and basically just hoping things turn out good for him is pretty stupid and lacks any real thought. Whether that was intended for his character or it was actual lack of thought from the film makers is debatable.

Which is EXACTLY what he wanted. He wanted to create chaos within those countries, flood the street with weapons that would be used on people to weaken their governments, so he could swoop in and expand the Wakandan Empire. Sounds like a sound plan to me. Selling weapons to create a revolution in another country is not unheard of at all.

I guess you weren't paying attention. He mentioned on screen that Wakanda already has spies in every country. he also mentioned they should be instructed to arm the populace to take control for wakanda

I still would have preferred Thanos to have his comic motivations.

Killmonger's plan was well prepared and thought out, I have no doubts about that.
I'll admit that it would sound even better in a world where aliens, gods and wizards didn't exist, but that's besides the point.
What Killmonger managed to lose as the movie progressed was compassion, as he didn't want to solve racism so that what happened to his people wouldn't happen again, but swap the roles and be the one in charge now.
He's an educated, intelligent individual and should have know better.
This way, he's clearly a villain and not an anti-hero, as I've read in a couple of places, but still coming from a place you can understand which makes him likeable.

I actually have him, Thanos, WS and Vulture as my top villains and who comes 1st and who comes 4th really depends on what kind of mood I'm in on that particular day.

Whoa, so ILM's not the prime effects house for the MCU anymore?

I knew WETA's been involved too for a while now, along with some lesser companies, but just assumed given they did Hulk that ILM would be handling the Thanos stuff too.

They are, but there is only so much they can do. They are a Lucasfilm company and Star Wars gets dibs on ILM I am pretty sure. MPC did most of the effects for Guardians 1. Guardians 2 was split between Framestore and Weta primarily. Sony Imageworks was the lead on Homecoming. Of the recent MCU films, ILM been doing the Avengers and Cap films primarily as well as Ragnarok.

He wanted black people to rise up and take over. But at the end of the day he was just arming people and hoping for the best.

Thanos was done extremely well in Infinity War, with a lot of interesting traits in his personality, a hugely powerful presence, and a great performance by Josh Brolin.

The effects guys deserve just as much credit. The difference between good and bad CG is vast. Look at Steppenwolf. Yikes.

What do you think other countries do when they're staging a coup? Exactly what he was doing.

Why does everyone like Killmonger ? An honest question, because I dont see anything special about him. MBJ basically played himself, the writing wasn't great either.

I don't get it either.

I like that Thanos is the hero of the story.

From his point of view, the movie has a beginning a middle and an end.

1. You learn was motivates and drives the hero and also what he cares most about.
2. The hero has to sacrifice what means most to his to complete his task.
3. The hero meets the antagonists that almost defeat him in the middle of the movie.
4. The hero changes and goes through an arc.
5. At the end of the movie, the villains (Thor) almost stops him from completing his task but monologues rather than take him out as all villains do.
6. He completes his task and disappears over the sunset
7. The closing credit says 'Thanos will return'

I don't get it either.

What people want from a villain is moral complexity. Someone who isn't just black and white but has vast shades of grey. Killmonger delivers that. He just isn't 'flashy' like Heath Ledger's Joker.

To me it all came together perfectly with Thanos. the new design was cooler, they minimalized vocal effects to help make it more authentic, his motivations made sense, and Brolin's acting was one of his best performances. Lots of clever writing too I like when

Gamora pleads him to stop torturing Nebula, saying she doesn't know where the soul stone is and Thanos says "I never taught you to lie. That's why you're so bad at it"

the redesign already reminded me of Heisenberg from Breaking bad :D so that line made me feel good

I like the subtle clue he loves Gamora. As they are climbing up the mountain he says, 'The stone had better be there for Nebula's sake'. He doesn't say, 'The stone had better be there for your sake.' He had no intention of ever harming her until it was necessary to complete his lifelong task and it destroyed him to do it.

agreed. I still can't believe they managed to make him interesting. When Thanos had his scene in GotG, I thought "Oh no... this generic big evil alien is supposed to be the climax to the Marvel Universe?"

The very first scene of IW had me at the edge of my seat. Just like [BLACKOUT]Thanos dealt decisive smart strikes to the Hulk, so did the first scene to the audience[/BLACKOUT]

the thanos in GOTG was pure **** Gunn is said to be not the biggest fan of Thanos and it showed in the writing of thanos in Gotg

I agree with the others but how did he exactly change?

He realised he loved his daughter. Actually, maybe he always knew that. Also, he mentioned he denied his destiny once, so Thanos changes by following through regardless of the cost.
