IGN has Punisher 2 plot details

Frank had a bit of a sidekick last movie.

I don't think it is a bad thing. I just hope he blasts him in the head toward the end.

Im glad to hear its starting with The Punisher as an established character...So hopefully we can see some bloodshed and vigilante mayhem right away.

Kurt Sutter just commented on this update in my blog. Check it out...link to my page is in my sig.

He wasnt really a sidekick though was he, he was in the movie for 10 mins and Frank needed someone inside the Saint household.

Here's the link to Sutter's comments. Just scroll down the blog near the bottom. That way it won't be censored.

I'm sure Avi wants a Venom movie and obviously he's talking about it. The thing is will it be really about Venom or will the use Venom as the title to tell the story of someone else who runs into the symbiote with a full on origin story??

I remember way back when, people were saying Keaton for Jigsaw.

I said this elsewhere, and I want it seen again
"WTF?! That is word for word what Jane wanted in the sequel... word for word. Thats the biggest stab in the back I have ever seen. They dont bend to what he's wanting for the sequel, he feels its time to go, then they go with his ideas anyways? Effin' thumbs down, Lionsgate, damn."

Maybe Lionsgate just didn't want him back. They might not have wanted Hensleigh back but agreed to work with Jane but to both of them it was a package deal. One for all and all for one you know. I don't think it was only a script issue which obviously can be fixed.

It said the Dante character was an ally not a sidekick. It could be just someone he goes to for information, not someone he fights along side with.

I kinda liked the idea that Jonathan Hensleigh had with The Holy being part of the movie. Its a shame they got rid of him and replaced him with these characters like Dante and Soap.

I hope, really hope, that Castle isn't killing a good cop. I assume that since this is a loose sequel, that this Punishers origin is the same as the first movie. Since Frank was working under cover I would think that he would take precautions to make sure that he wasn't killing "good" guys. My hope would be that Castle finds out that this fed was dirty and then offs him, leaving the FBI unaware that he was dirty, and then making it look like Castle was a cop killer.

Good angle, they find out later the fed Castle kills was dirty all along. That makes more sense.

I'm sorry, but there just no way to defend what they did. Jane worked out for years, fought tooth and nail, and tried his best to get a great script with no success. And as soon as he's essentially 'forced' out due to lack of agreement on direction, the internet lights up, flames Lionsgate, so what do they do? They take everyone of his ideas and have the script re-written to fit the bill.

Now do not get me wrong, this has zero to do with my opinion of Lexi Alexander, or Ray Stevenson. Stevenson is probably going to be fantastic, I'm not an idiot. He can def fit the bill. Hell I'm even excited to see him in full Punisher mode. And I am rooting for Alexander every step of the way. You certainly cant flame people for wanting to take control of such a cool character. But you cant turn your back on the obvious, and you sure as hell cant turn your back on the man who gave so many years, and so many battles to try and get us a Punisher 2. Go ahead, bring up box office receipts, bring up reviews...fact of the matter, if you think Punisher 2 is going to be anymore successful without Tom Jane, you've flipped your lid.

Very good points and I have a feeling even if the films is good and I doubt it will be that it will still tank at the box office. It doesn't have a well known leading star and the director is not well know either. The '04 film staring Thomas Jane has a pretty loyal cult following so they will be alienating them by replacing Jane Plus add to the fact the Punisher has a small but loyal comic book following and the film will be rated R add it all up and you are going to wind up with another box office failure, possibly with out even the good DVD sales of the '04 film.

I just have trouble with the knowledge that Jane walked. I can only blame him for not sticking around, letting the director have their say on what script changes they thought were appropriate, and getting a decent rewrite. He has nobody to blame but himself for not playing ball.

He is a big boy though, and honestly will be just fine. So will we with Ray Stevenson.

I agree. But my question is what kind of Punisher fan says this movie sucks and is going to tank because Tom Jane isn't in it? I could understand if they replaced Jane with somebody that sucks, Ray is awesome. Watch every episode of Rome and then tell me he's not the right guy for the job. The director Lexi Alexander was nominated for a freakin Oscar and is a champion kickboxer, it's not like we have Uwe Boll in charge of the Punisher. Tom Jane was one of the reasons I became a fan of the Punisher (he nailed the character), but he won't do this movie for his own reasons.:unishr:

he looks a little bit like tom jane on that pic.. the eyes and the nose...

i think the 2 or 3 days beard could work.. a different hairstyle and maybe some scar on the face and set the story of the movie several years later the other one and maybe it could justify the difference between the two guys.
i hope they don't change the skull though...

How do people feel about the name of the film?

http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=6180

Superhero Hype! has learned that the working title for Lionsgate and Marvel Studios' new Punisher film is The Punisher: Welcome Back Frank. Shooting is set to start in Montreal late September.

To be directed by Lexi Alexander (Hooligans) and starring Ray Stevenson (HBO's "Rome") as Frank Castle/The Punisher, the action-thriller was written by Nick Santora, Kurt Sutter, Matt Holloway and Art Marcum.

The film will be set in New York, where Frank Castle runs up against a mobster.

^ I like it since it's a reboot of sorts and then go to Warzone on the next pic.

I guess since you put it that way as a reboot of sorts... It kind of works.

At first I thought what exactly are we welcoming him back from? I thought this was his first time out as a vigilante?

I noticed nobody is really talking about this, so I'll bring it up.

Am I the only one who is SO happy that Soap is in this movie? He's always been a favorite of mine, and makes for some good comedic relief. I can't wait to see him on the screen.

SOAP!

I'm actually pleased to see he's in there too... might have some pretty funny moments. I wonder if there will be any girl scouts as villains?

Do you think they will add the scene where Soap picks up his own mother in the bar?

Or when he goes home with the transvestite? Or the murderer guy?

I wonder if Kevin the bartender will be in the movie?

I'm excited about this, initially I wanted to drop kick Lion'sgate in the nads, but I got over it. This looks like it'll be good, I mean they even have soap! I just hope the ally thing isn't dumb, and the undercover guy that is killed was really infact dirty. Frank doesn't just go and kill people, he does his research; in one of the old Deadpool issues he was tailing Frank, and there were three guys strung up or in cuffs, he said that he knew one was an undercover agent and then proceeds to kill two of the guys, stares at the real agent and leaves. He has to have recon information, that adds to his character and shows that he's more than a guy that drives around and caps people without proper knowledge.
