I'm Not Messing Around, I'm Doing Important Stuff in The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 61

I think Gunn is all but outright saying, “the DCU is new but theres a few things i liked in the DCEU that are coming over.” And you know what, i think thats totally cool. Fans make too much of a big deal about this kind of continuity stuff. Its not that serious. This allows for us to see Xolo’s Blue Beetle once again who most people liked and there WERE good elements in the DCEU that are worth fleshing out.
Let's be real. He's just finding the nice diplomatic way of saying "we're tossing the bad and keeping the good." And of course most of what he'd want to keep is stuff he worked on. He was hired to make his vision of the DC universe. He's already made some of that vision. He's not gonna toss that stuff. It's really not complicated.

I would be extremely surprised if Noah Hawley would agree to any MCU project considering how not director-friendly Marvel Studios is. But maybe they are changing their old ways.

You know in retrospect, I wonder if Gunn ever actually did consider keeping Gal? This is total speculation on my part but i feel like initially he intended to keep her but then as time went on and the dceu movies were bombing (a couple of which she guest starred in) and then there was the infamous Heart of Stone press tour where Gal was openly saying she was back…I wonder if all that soured Gunn and made him think “nah i’m starting fresh with Wonder Woman.”

One thing I’m curious about since I guess TSS is canon now(at least most of it) I wonder if the Bloodsport’s backstory of him shooting Superman remains the same and it’s retconned to be the David Corenswet Superman now?
I just think it’d be funny if they redid the Justice League cameo but now it’s the JLI from Superman.

Oooh.

Russell Dauterman from Marvel drew "Rio" from Agatha All Along, and it's gorgeous.

I highly doubt it was ever in consideration. I just can’t see Gunn not wanting to cast his own Justice League and start from scratch with all those characters.

This is what he's doing. The question is whether this is a good idea for perception, if you truly believe the DCEU became toxic.

Yes, and I think that comes down to whether or not the GA even views DC as any kind of unified brand. I personally don’t believe they do, based on their sporadic massive hits and failures over the years - I feel that demonstrates they just take each DC movie as it comes, based on how it looks in the marketing - but there’s no real way to know for sure until there’s some consistency behind the scenes.

I think you're probably right. But sometimes I feel like I put too much faith in the general populous and don't exactly feel charitable to them at the moment.

At least there seems to be more of a plan this time around unlike with Snyder who admitted he was just going to do MoS, BvS, JL, JL2, and JL3 while WB thought yeah that sounds like a shared universe.

Maybe he's just going to be a writer on a few projects instead of a director?
I feel he should be involved in the story part and assist in the outline, but ultimately be hands off after.

Its nice knowing that whatever happens with Gunn’s DCU, we’ll at least get these projects and SUPERMAN. I’m hoping to get updates on PARADISE LOST, Constantine and Swamp Thing soon.

I am never really interested in what the actors or crew say pre-release. Unless it's a situation where they dunk on the movie like Dakota Johnson was doing before Madame Web. That was notable. But otherwise, it's always "This is the best movie of my career and everyone in it or worked on it was amazing!"

Omg the MW press tour with Dakota Johnson is a top ten highlight of 2024 for me. :funny:

Totally. I've given Gunn a bunch of **** since he took over but him keeping stuff he made as essentially canon is totally fine. All that stuff is pretty niche and won't effect the GA at all.
