I'm Not Messing Around, I'm Doing Important Stuff in The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 61

Sidebar, and I meant to bring this up when we talked about MOTP, but how do you feel about the Mr Freeze Sub Zero movie?

People never talk about it.
Oh poor Victor. adopts an Inuit boy and polar bear only to learn he needs Batgirl to revive his dead wife.

Maybe Arnold just ruined it for me but I don’t think I ever want to see Mr. Freeze in a movie again. Maybe Reeves or someone else can make me a believer but I’d rather see other Batman villains before he shows up.

It's fine. A nice end to the rendition of the character. Similar quality to Mystery of Batwoman.

Yeah I think this guy gets it, I’m not worried about him being creatively responsible for DCU Batman or any projects he may be involved in.

I want a Batman that is more fantastical than grounded. I want Batman to exist in a world populated by metahumans and aliens. So when the formation of the Justice League eventually happens it make sense why someone like this is present.

I loved it, I thought the story worked and gave real closure to Mr. Freeze (until they didn't)

I do miss it just for the fact that the animation never looked better (aside from the dodgy late 90s CGI), and it was the last time Batman and all the characters looked like that before the inevitable redesign.

Sub-Zero was a great film that was released around the same time as Batman and Robin, Sub-Zero is the superior film by alot. Mr. Freeze had an emotional finale with the recovery of his wife Nora being revived. I personally see this as a fitting end to his story rather than the revamped version in TNBA or Batman Beyond tragic ending.

Just finished my Rebel Moon marathon. I might be finished altogether. ****. Snyder is a goddamn maniac for that. Six and a half hours of ugly sludge without an ounce of heart. I went in open-minded because I liked his cut of JL and considered the longer cut of BvS a clear improvement over the theatrical one, but this one might actually be WORSE with the added material. It's just empty gobbledygook without an original bone in its husk of a body. Holeeeeee crap.

Happy to see you're still alive, and haven't converted to Farmerism. I hope your friend is still sane as well.

Now that's bravery.

We were struggling. About a third into Part 2, I had to coax my friend out of emerging madness with a toasted PB&J. I think I might've aged five years and gained ten kilos... I'm going to wake up bald and with an empty bank account. Don't try this at home, folks!!

I watched both original cuts of RM and just did not like it. I watched the opening 20 mins of the directors cut of part 1 and turned it off. That extended opening was one of the cruelest things i've watched in recent memory. Incredibly offputting.

Zach Snyder cried with envy.

So now you see all the cut footage of grain and farming that was key to the plot. :o

I tapped out after the first cut of the four (!) Rebel Moons.

I have seen lots of online chatter that the ‘SnyderCuts’ are worse but I don’t know if that’s the consensus.

I remember how huge this film was back in the Summer of 1995, Batman was everywhere, posters, tv ads, music videos, toys and games , radio ads, McDonald’s commercials. This was an event. Warner bros. Held nothing back in advertising Batman Forever and it paid off with a huge win for the studio in every department.

Nowadays this film is considered inferior and a bad film. But back in the day it was celebrated and praised.

The extra hours add very little as far as story goes, the new material is mostly about exploding heads and copious nudity. Based on Snyder's earlier director's cuts, I was expecting better characterization and more coherent plot points, but that's not the case at all. It's just longer and edgy as hell.

Inferior?! A bad film?!

IMG_9058.gif

Yall give these pretentious, born after the 90s, Letterboxd film bros too much leeway. :o

I need to find a SNES emulator page and play Forever again for old time’s sake.

Just catching up on season 4 of Superman & Lois and watched episode 7 tonight. I really hope Gunn spoke with the creators as they handle the dramatic beats of Superman so well.

I am a Supes fan who feels he should never reveal his identity to the world, but S&L handled it SO perfectly it's changed my mind on an important aspect of a character I have loved since I was a kid. Such a good show.

This and Batman '89 were my most watched as a kid. We didn't have Batman Returns.

Look, you guys can judge, I don't give a damn, but this ending was TOUGH to 5 year old Shinobi:

Uncle Joel understood the assignment 30 years ago. :o

Alexa, play Hold Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me, Thrill Me!
Batman Forever gave us “Kiss from a Rose” by Seal, one of the best ballads of the 90s, and for that, I can never hate it.
MoS has a top 5 superhero score imo. Maybe the best. It's perfect for Superman. Alien, sincere, playful, but also dangerous. I really wish it wasn't wasted on... that.
MoS has a number of problems. Hans Zimmer isn’t one of them. That’s pretty true of any bad movie that he’s been a part of.

Regardless of what you think of the film itself, the marketing was on point.
Same with Batman and Robin. I still remember where I was when I saw the character promos for Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy (even though I didn’t know who she was at the time) and Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze.

I also distinctly remember seeing some sort of advertisement for toys and merchandise related to “Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie” someone left lying around. I was still into Power Rangers at the time, and this was a little over half a year before Power Rangers in Space came out, so maybe that’s why it sticks out in my mind so much for me.

The 90s, and some of the early 2000s, were definitely very formative years for me. If I listed every single thing I was into, I would probably be here for hours, and probably an entire week just talking about all of them.

It really is a great scene, in a show with so many. I'm sure Corenswet will be great, but I'm not quite ready to move on.

And to be fair to Gunn, that scene is one of the benefits of the television format. It is a payoff to 7 episodes worth of build up, which is a lot more than Gunn has to work with in a movie.

Now, the follow up to a reveal, no I would not trust Gunn to handle that well.

EDIT: Also, sadly for FF fans, its looking like Naked Gun may have more juice than expected.
