I'd be surprised if it doesn't. Especially with how the first one resonated with people even after the theatrical release.
Domestically it did amazing, but Oz doesn't have a huge reach outside of the US. Maybe that changes with Wicked 2. We shall seeI'm still actually shocked the first Wicked didn't make it to a billion.
Literally everyone in the whole damn world went to go watch it, multiple times at that.
SF's not wrong about the Wizard of Oz factor, but also, "Broadway Musical Adaptations" are just one of those genres that will always have a ceiling, because there's a not-insubstantial movie-going demographic that refuses to even glance at them. That said, based on all the reaction videos I've seen of people discovering the first one after hit streaming, I'd say it didn't quite hit that ceiling yet, and Part 2 will do better. Maybe not "a billion" better, but $800m-900m seems very much on the table.I'm still actually shocked the first Wicked didn't make it to a billion.

Is that something to feel spoiled about? Seems like part of the basic premise.I love how F4 TV spots spoiling that Sue has a baby.![]()
I am hoping that the WOM from the 1st one can get it over the hump. All that said. The one factor I could see holding it back from making more is the nature of Act 2, and the potential for people to find it less satisfying than the first. I always found it satisfying, but it is undoubtedly the weaker act of the show. The movie will inevitably be adding a lot to expand Act 2, which I consider a good thing as its main problem in the stage show was that it was all so rushed, but it's just a matter of, "did they expand it in the right ways and places to make it better" or not. The ending should hit regardless, because it's always been great, but the rest of the stuff leading up it remains kinda up in the air.I am hoping that the WOM from the 1st one can get it over the hump. I am a man of many tastesDefinitely got over with me, and I'm not even a Erivo stan.
I still would have NEVER guessed you to be a fan of musicals lol.
Zootopia 2 is the one I keep forgetting about.
My question is: Does Wicked 2 make it to a billion? I feel like it being the conclusion gives it a big push in that direction since I'm sure there's a sizable chunk of the audience who might have missed the first one in theaters but will show up for this.

Reactions seem overwhelmingly positive outside of that one though. So I am very encouragedBrandon Davis said he liked it but didnt love it and that guy loves most mcu movies. Visuals and retro futuristic design seems to be the movie’s highlights…
Time to hear the cult's alternate reality of how things happened.
But did he compose a piano sonata for it?FWIW, the FF soundtrack is SOOOOO good.
Giacchino brought some heat.
