I'm Not Messing Around, I'm Doing Important Stuff in The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 61

It's wild this was rated PG.

Because the VFX were so weird that he got turned into a South Park cutout character, much like a certain orange guy was the other day. :o

Bruh.

I never thought I'd see the day when the White House would make a statement about South Park.

I hate this Sacred Timeline of ours. It is SO unserious. :lmao:

The fact that the White House took the time to address it shows where their priorities are, or aren't. And I also loved how they said the show hasn't been relevant for 20 years, yet Paramount just paid $1.5B for another five years (which I think is a steep price tag for a show that's almost 30 years old with no set production schedule but if it makes the White House look stupid then I'm all for it). :o

Matt and Trey have made mistakes before, whether it's both sidesing arguments or straight up mocking Al Gore for bringing awareness to global warming (which they've since apologized for) but they're on the right side here. Not only was that new episode the best one in years, it was needed. South Park bringing back the Saddam Hussein character in the form of Trump is just *chef's kiss*

I can't really argue with that top 6 but seeing Unbreakable and X2 in a top 10 superhero movies in 2025 is strange. Guardians Vol. 2 being the one on that list over the other two is a choice, as is Watchmen being on there.

A lot to unpack:

- They snuck a few on there.

- You're not gonna like me for saying this but take Incredibles out and replace it with Batman 89 and that top 5 would be better.

- And most of all, no Blade or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?

WW is way too high tbh.
Agreed. I've always thought that the plot is a thin mashup of Thor and Cap 1 held together by Gal and Pine's chemistry and the No Man's Land scene. Personally I wouldn't have put Superman: The Movie at # 1 either but I can certainly respect it for being the blueprint for successfully making a comic book property into a blockbuster.

Blade and TMNT probably have more business being on there than Super. :o

Batman 89 is another one like Superman: The Movie for me. It's not my personal favorite but it deserves a spot at the table for how important it was for the genre.

It's funny, I never cared about Supes 1978 when I was younger, but now that I'm older, I respect it more with every rewatch.

I'd keep it at #1.

I was always really invested in the first two thirds or so of the movie where we see his origins and his first night of crimefighting/superheroing in Metropolis but then I kind of check out a bit once the plot switches over to Supes vs. Luthor. Hackman's great but I was never much a fan of the Donner version of the character. That's why I always follow up with Superman II after watching the first one to get that proper Kryptonian vs. Kryptonian action.
