I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

Amy asked about the show weaving into Part II

Matt's answer:
like Hady said, they (i.e. the anti-corruption commission) are gonna be looking at him, he was in the drug business, involved with Falcone. He is gonna have to answer for some of the things and he will be involved in some stuff that will be an entry point to the movie, it's not the main story but it's the beginning of where the overall story continues

To me, this screams Dent and Hush, with the latter maybe being a pawn sent by the Court to disrupt the investigation

I love Matt but sometimes the way he articulates things really trips me the **** up. :funny:

I know a lot of people think we'll see Oz as mayor, but watching this last episode it seemed more like Hady will be the mayor in some way.

He ends the series probably being quite popular among the population, he's the guy who brought power back to Crown Point, arrested Sofia and ended the gang war and as Oz pointed out all of this could lead Hady to the top. There's also the factor that in the comics Hady is the mayor.

Oz functionally being the Mayor as a riff on the 66 storyline while Hady is his lil dancing puppet boy isn't entirely out of the realm of possibility. While the plot mechanics set that up they really could not have proactively foreshadowed him personally becoming Mayor more.

Feels too derivative of Falcone though. Having Oswald actually be the mayor is a change of pace from the typical "mob boss pulling the strings behind the scenes" trope.
Mayor Penguin is infinitely preferable.

As for whether there is a future for more “The Penguin” seasons, Bloys said that’s based on what “The Batman” director Matt Reeves and showrunner Lauren LeFranc, as well as star Colin Farrell, want to do. “It’s up to Matt and Colin and Lauren to see if there’s a story they’re interested in telling,” he said. “I’m hopeful. Obviously, it’s been a lot of fun and very successful, but I’ll let them figure out if there’s another
story they want to tell.”

The Penguin's success make me even more frustrated at the delay of The Batman Part II. The hype for the series and this franchise is huge right now, but we literally have to wait another two years almost for the next "chapter". It's such a shame.

Imagine riding all of this hype into the first teaser trailer for Part II dropping soon? And a release sometime next year?

The lengthy delays with this franchise have not been great. First COVID shutdown, then writer and actor strikes. Dreading whatever happens between 2027 and 2030. :funny:

And 2026 is crowded as hell with big movies coming out compared to 2025.

It's not like Matt Reeves is George Martin...

I wonder if Harvey will end up being the villain of Part II before he's even scarred.
I hope not, that would feel redundant, like they're blowing their load too soon.

Some of us are just as pumped for some imminent casting drops. :o

The two year hype cycle of production is the most fun part in so many ways, tbh.

i unfortunately jinxed it and the casting news aren't coming this week, unless maybe friday?

I've heard mixed messages about when production for this actually starts. I've heard "early 2025" and I've heard "mid 2025." Either way, you figure we gotta start hearing some things in December right? Casting usually happens several months out.

We got both Dano and Kravitz in October for a shoot that began, what? January/February?

February or March, yeah. I think they only got a month worth of filming done before COVID shutdown, which if I recall correctly was late March/early April.

It's a little hard to believe if the movie shoots in the next six months some of the new leads aren't at least in negotiations already.
