I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

In fairness, his IG account is just a damn fun and wholesome follow, so there’s likely nothing to it. But I’d be here for the meltdown -> silencing haters arc if Reeves actually had the stones to cast him and it would make me pretty giddy as a longtime fan of the D to see Jables actually holding his own on screen in a Batman film.
I can see it. Especially since Reeves goes beyond the norm. Everyone flew into a rage over Heath Ledger as Joker also and Micheal Keaton as bats when that was all first announced. And look how that turned out.

The obvious choices are not always the obvious choices. Black could play Mad Hatter, (drops drugs and the new one from penguin show) he could play Bullock, or really anything in this suited for the vision.

Jack Black... sounds like Black Jack.
Who plays cards in Batman? ... The Joker.
The Joker who happens to be... Jack Napier. Mh...
But the role's already taken, so who else is a gangster?
Black Mask... who happens to be a tenacious villain.
Tenacious like Tenacious D.
D like "Damn, when will this damn script will be done?!"

Now we're onto something. The code is cracked.
I'm looking forward to the scene where he sings Batman a grunge cover.

Reeves SEEMS to only follow actors he himself is involved with, at least on Instagram. So, as much as I don't want for there to be any fishiness surrounding this and we're all just starving for news to the point of overthinking everything.......it seems like this is something deeper.

so eiza and jack black
I guess. Always possible they're in the DCU Clayface movie instead (they'd probably fit that a bit better tbh), but for now I'm not holding my breath.

Eh, who knows. Jonah Hill as the Riddler was an interesting choice.

Superman is a delicious movie, but now I'm more convinced then ever that it doesn't fit at all with Reeves' Batman.
That's a fantasy world full of metahumans, Batman has to deal with it from the very start.
And plus, it's time to have a Batman fully inspired from BTAS or Justice League animated series.

Anyway, aside big issues, I don't see why Reeves can't do a third film and two or three spin-offs within 2032 and on the same time having a tease of DCU Batman and one or two minor appearence waiting for a Batman & Robin movie in 2030.

Gunn seems a big fan and Reeves seems actively participating as a producer in DCU's Batman (Clayface). We still not have a script or a casting: the timing is right to make coexist both for a couple of years and make finish Reeves with his vision to make continue Gunn with his one.

The Hollywood Reporter casually ignores The Batman doing 134M opening weekend, whatever. It’s not a big deal , but come on, show Reeves some respect 🤣
Also, the batman was dealing with COVID lockdowns which was all the more impressive along with a 45 day theatrical window that went straight to streaming.

Clayface was originally conceived by Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep) who first expressed interest in the character in 2021 and over the years had pitched the idea to DC Films and later DC Studios in 2023. Flanagan had begun to develop the film as part of the Batman Epic Crime Saga. In December 2024, DC Studios had greenlit Flanagan’s script as part of the DCU with Matt Reeves attached to still produce the film along with DC Studios. Flanagan was originally attached to direct the film as well but was unable to due to his upcoming Carrie and The Exorcist projects. In February 2025, James Watkins (Speak No Evil) came on board to direct. Clayface is currently set to begin production in early September and continue through October in the UK.

Is this a real source?

EDIT: oh yeah apochorseman it’s true.

I wonder if appetite for Reeves spinoffs dried up real hard when Gunn came aboard - on top of them mostly being intended as streaming fodder which obviously is in a very different place now - then Penguin was a hit and all of a sudden chatter started anew.

I don’t really care either way. Less is more sometimes. I’m mostly just sad that Flanagan couldn’t make it so he got replaced by a middling rando.

genuinely, there are only 2 spin off projects i'd be actively excited for
- 2nd season of Penguin with Dent
- the OG GCPD show idea/preferably with Gordon
