I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

I don't think the brave and the bold is happening personally. I think they've come to the conclusion that you cant have 2 batman at the same time.
Yeah, I don't know if they'll merge universes (I doubt it), but from the recent news, I also think there's only going to be one Batman either way.

I'm on the verge of cry-begging for casting news at this point. Literally any good news.

Geez, sitting here just thinking about the missed opportunity of capitalizing the hype after episode 8 of the Penguin Series. We could have gotten casting news or whatever leading up to filming in Q1 2025.

Even if there's no Brave and the Bold, I have to imagine that Bats is gonna appear at some point soon in a minor role, be it in Waller, Teen Titans, etc. And I bet it won't be Pattinson.

If I had to guess, there will be no DCU Bat films with Bats front and center. Instead we'll flesh out the Bat world through Robins, villains, Nightwing, etc. This is not a bad thing at all if you ask me. Haven't people been clamoring for Nightwing etc forever?

Meanwhile we'll get our The Batman films (which need I remind you did in fact show Superman and WW as halloween costumes, meaning Reeves is acknowledging the existence of the DCU despite personally wanting to focus on looking at Gotham through a realistic lens, at least at the start), which I think will end up being treated as a soft canon "prequel" (literal timelines be damned) to the DCU Bats, with some cast members/interpretations (not Pattinson) carrying on if beloved, the same way Peacemaker/Blue Beetle did.

The whole idea about tonal inconsistency is beyond the point. Look at the MCU with Punisher and Ms Marvel in the same universe. It's just a matter of what Gunn and Reeves wanna do. And the fact that Reeves is a producer on all these new DCU bat projects tells me that in some way, he needs to sign off on how it affects what he's doing, as Gunn still wants to respect what Reeves is creating.

once again, i'd suggest treading lightly. unless you don't care about being a horrible person in the end
Which is why, if this is the case, Gunn should not be saying anything about the script not being finished. Then people unnecessarily pile on Reeves for not having the script completed.

What I'm going to say is likely going to be unpopular here (since I'm quite frustrated), but here goes.

They should not have pinned a release date so soon after Part I; having to delay it so many times is just a bad look. It also makes people frustrated at Reeves, the good guy that he is.

But I'm fatigued of reading people saying "Well, Matt Reeves is a perfectionist" - as if The Batman was perfect. I like it a lot - but 'perfect' it wasn't. It's good! But, not perfect.

I love Batman, and the film did good reception-wise, but it also came and went quickly, which bummed me out. It didn't have the impact that The Dark Knight or '89 did - so saying that people see it as the greatest Batman film next to The Dark Knight - when the film also has a healthy amount of audiences that just felt it was meh, feels wrong. And a 5 year gap will bring apathy from the general audience who did love it. I mean, I'm getting there and I'm a die-hard fan.

People also going on about "I'd rather them do it right, better that he takes his time..." - he clearly is, but there is a thing about taking so long that momentum is lost and you start having issues of continuity with your characters' age.

The Batman Part II is meant to take place 2 weeks after the first film; Pattinson and the rest of the cast will have aged 5 years in 2 weeks, now. The guy is going to be 41 playing 'young, Year 2 Batman' when Affleck was 43 in Batman V. Superman and Bale was 38 in Rises.

There's nothing wrong with taking time to ensure quality - but creating a hunger for a universe and taking too long to feed that hunger is bad business.

The way this has handled has made people think some shenanigans are going on behind the scenes, and fans shouldn't really blame other fans if they feel that way. It's kinda not their fault.

Christopher Nolan took 4 between the 2nd and 3rd Batman films, but he directed a whole film during that time (Inception). Sorry to compare the two, but.

Matt Reeves may have been the wrong man to head the whole shebang.

This is frustrating, honestly. You can call me impatient - but I wasn't the one that set the release date for 2024. Or 2025. Then 2026. And now 2027.

DC, Gunn and Reeves need to get it together. Their miscommunication and quiet plus delays isn't making things look good.

I'm starting not to care.

I wonder where Mattson Tomlin fits into this. He was co-writer on TB and for P2 but i gather he's been kept in the loop about all of this.

The movie is being delayed. That’s public knowledge. The script is the biggest reason why.

I’d rather they be upfront with the reasoning instead of saying nothing.

Not only that, but it’s an opportunity for Gunn to show he supports Reeves & his movie(s). Better than letting everyone assume Gunn is pushing dates out to sabotage it or something.

Well, I hope Matt and his family are ok. That's the first thing that popped in my mind. I've had plenty of great Batman films to watch in my lifetime, I'm okay waiting for this one. Of course I'd love to see it sooner rather than later, but waiting is ok too. Especially if it's a serious life matter.

We thought we were thirsty for news before…that was after 1030 or so days since the 1st movie came out.

Now we have to more or less do that wait again…we’re 1008 days away from the new release date….

Not to bombard the thread, but I'm as upset as everyone else is.

But from what Gunn and that Anon person said, Gunn is willing to shelve this thing for a bit. Takes a big risk to do that while Reeves takes care of whatever is going on (if anything, as it's in bad taste to speculate). Gunn/WB must have a high confidence level into what Reeves has planned. Otherwise, and we've seen this before, such a delay would force production to target a new director.

I'm amazed at how much James Gunn is being blamed for this and everything else wrong with the world.
Dude is clearly backing this/Matt. Hard to blame him for the delays based on what we know.

I don’t think they’ll be folding this into the DCU, but I do wonder if they’re making this a two-parter instead of a trilogy….

My hope is that he’s actually writing the script for Part 3 and that’s the delay. They wanna shoot this thing back to back. Dare to dream.

They do that anyway.

Honestly this all reads less like there's a plan for The Batman and the DCU to be integrated and more like there's something going on in Matt's personal life, especially how ViewerAnon seems to be wording it. Either way, it doesn't really matter.

It's a massive shame, but I've been contending since day 1 that I'll wait as long as it takes considering there's a chance this is gonna be the greatest Batman movie of all time from a potential standpoint. If it takes another year, so be it

I do think people being worried about visible aging is a bit overblown though considering Pattinson seems to bathe in the fountain of youth daily

I do hope everything is okay in Reeves’ personal life, there’s a lot of insinuation going around but you have to take everything you hear with a grain of salt at this point.

The thing that doesn’t really add up to me is that they’re still shooting the movie next summer. That’s giving them an entire 2 years to shoot and finish the movie, which is an abnormally long time and out of step with other similar-sized productions.

Maybe they’re just playing it extra safe because the script isn’t technically done, but the real goal is spring 2027 if everything goes according to the schedule? I dunno.

I still think there is something else going on behind the scenes. I do hope Reeves and his family are okay, but I just get a sense that there is more to the story. Something changed after The Penguin series.
