I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

I can tell it’s the start of a new week because we’re back to discussing whether or not The Batman Part II is happening…
First movie was never gonna be finished 'cause of COVID. Movie was gonna bomb because theatres were dead cause of COVID. Battinson was gonna be replaced by Affleck coming back cause the Snyderverse was getting restored. Pattinson was gonna be irrelevant because of Michael Keaton's return. Penguin wasn't gonna happen and probably no more sequels because Discovery was taking over. The franchise is dead because of the DCU. It's dead because Reeves is taking a long time to finish the script.

It goes on and on and on and on :funny:. Some of it has been valid but every other goddamn month there's a gigantic sense of calamity.

I can’t wait for Team Reeves Batman vs Team DCU Batman. That is going to be so fun to witness on social media! Biggest event since the Snyderverse vs WB! :o

Part 2 100% will happen. All this honestly just calls into question Part 3, more than anything. Part 2's box office has to be solid to justify all these production hurdles for a potential Part 3.

Just for the sake of speculation, having confirmation that Reeves is indeed starting to produce projects for the DCU, and that I don't imagine him being the kind of producer who's only content to throw money at the table, I think it's fair to wonder about the future of his Batman beyond this upcoming sequel. Not that this version would be cancelled, that indeed doesn't make sense, but how it may evolve.

Reeves doesn't work super fast, fine, and it's true that this can be beneficial for the script. But I think we may start romanticizing that part a bit, knowing now that Reeves does have his feet in two thing at the same time. That's not necessarily the truth, but it would make sense if this long process was also due to some kind of a slow transition towards bringing what’s beyond that sequel under a same banner. In any case, I wouldn't be surprised anymore by this eventuality.

Also, without taking the greedy mentality of a movie studio wanting a Batman movie in theaters every year, I can imagine that Reeves could not be totally satisfied with only making two movies in the span of ten years or so. Without wanting to make an argument from authority, working in the creative field, the volume of one's artistic production is a very common concern, as much as its quality. There is a constant struggle between managing to place projects, having the time to realize them, preparing the next move, etc., while ensuring that all these creations end up regularly "coming into the world".
Bringing this back to Reeves, for reference, there's as much time between the Cloverfield release and his second Planet of the Apes release as there is between his signature on Batman and the potential release of this second installment… Again, it's only speculation, but to me it’s legitimate if one wonder if that longer than usual time away from the spotlight may not be eventually due to some "creative restructuration" before getting things going faster later. I mean, de facto, Reeves has to share his toys with Gunn now, and maybe despite their initial plans, after two years, they've found a way to actually play together.
Who knows. We'll see. It's fun to speculate, no? :oldrazz:

------

In any case, these bit of news shows that Reeves (and by extent, Pattinson) isn’t going anywhere and that his interest in the character and his universe is genuine, intact and, eventually, larger than what he’s immediately doing with it himself.

I always like to point out that I don't hang on social media much, but in a moment of weakness I started to lurk a bit on Reddit and... this fight already begun! 😅

The fandom drama between DCU and Reeves is going to be pure unadulterated misery no matter what happens lol

Reeves Batman is the Batman Of Record, and Gunn's Superman is now the Superman Of Record, so its natural that people are pairing them up.

If superman is a hit with the general audience and does well at the box office, DC would have their two main characters on positive footing for the first time ever. That's no easy feat so wanting them to team up is a given.

The plan as it currently stands would instead be to wait for another iteration of batman that may or may not be successful.

If there is one thing for certain, most people are impatient given the current status of the sequel.

I don't reeeeeeeeeeeeeally want overly classic Batman stuff for the Reevesverse THAT much, barring some aesthetic choices here and there for certain characters like Penguin or Joker, which is what it would inevitably become if it were integrated into the DCU.

Yeah, my dream is that Reeves obliterates the status quo as thoroughly as possible in exciting unique ways. I’ve had thousands of stories about classic Batman status quo my whole life, I don’t ever need to watch a movie of it.

I think the Matt Reeves and Zoe Kravitz interview is dropping today. I don't expect any news on the sequel but it will be interesting nonetheless.

Latest Production Weekly mentions The Batman II, does anyone have access?
I don’t, but I’m seeing rumors about a June 2025 production start in London. Guessing they’re related to whatever is in Production Weekly.

  • Current plan is to start shooting May 2025.
  • As reported, Reeves has been delivering “bits and pieces of the script”. Hence, Gunn not receiving a full draft in its entirety.
  • Pattinson filming the Nolan movie is not a concerning issue and he will be readily available for Batman.
  • Greig Fraser is set to return as cinematographer.

Praying to baby jesus this is all true

This is more credible and a reality of production. These things needs to be booked well in advance and if the aim is to begin shooting mid-next year, we would have to hear about it within the next two months on a 6 month preproduction timeline.

So hopefully this is true and it would be silly of Gunn to even talk about Batman right now since the attention should be all on superman.

I agree. I understand Gunn wanted debunked false information and he should, but I think he is handling the script drama poorly and it’s only adding more negativity to towards this film already.

World of Reel’s Jordan Ruimy has talked to people in the production who’ve told him that there’s consensus that the script will “blow away” the fans who have been patiently waiting.

I am just so very hungry for some significant movement on this bad *****.
