I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

The speculation seems to be getting louder now though.

Personally, and I've said this now for a while, from a business standpoint, having 2 batmen, does not make sense. Now, I've seen the rebuttals that they will be totally different but that is comic book fans talking.

The fact is, comic book films are on the decline. Good comic book movies are even harder to come by. When you already have a successful batman franchise why would you try to kick-start a second one. Unless Gunn's ego knows no bounds and he does it himself, I think even he knows he either has to wait for Reeves to finish, or merge them.
You're ignoring Option C, wherein Battinson does not join the DCU and there is no "2nd Batman franchise" until he's done. With a DCU Batman making guest appearances in other movies in the meantime. That's always been the most likely scenario to me.

You're right, that is another option. But to me, they already tried that with Ben Affleck. You would be retreading the exact same ground and it didn't work the last time.

If Superman is successful, I think you will see a World's Finest movie next.

I think VA makes a great point right here. Not calling Gunn a liar, but he continues to contradict himself, Reeves and Andy on this Batman stuff 😅 geez.

Seeing Mr. Freeze as the rumored villain .................................. Seeing Jeff Sneider as the source

Matt Reeves said:
There's unrest in the streets to say, "Well, how could this be?". The idea that this corruption extends as deep as it extends. In the first movie, Batman views things very simplistically, he sees things in black and white. What he can represent and how he can affect that. As we enter into the next movie, there's a lot more grey. How does Batman fit into that? Where do you fit? It's not as clear as going, "Oh yeah, bad guy, I go after bad guys". And when things are in grey, it makes it very hard to be Batman, so this is part of the challenge as we enter it.

There’s a lot more division in the city. It's a lot more like our world is now. There's a lot of turmoil because people are in their camps and they're not communicating.

Freeze plays into these ideas quite well, methinks. If people will forgive the crude example, just look at the situation with Luigi Mangione and United Healthcare. There are people out there that not only empathize with Mangione, but actually want him set free (despite murdering someone, mind you). Freeze going after the executives of big bad GothCorp might play to the sympathies of Gotham's residents. Perhaps even Batman's.

But is this all still too derivative of The Riddler? He had his supporters too.

I'd love nothing more than a B:TAS inspired Mr. Freeze, but I sadly do not think that's where Reeves' head is at.
I think combining BTAS Freeze with his jewel thief comic counterpart was a great idea in B&R. Just the script and Arnold turn the camp up to 11 with it.

And in fact I would prefer to see Reeves manage more grounded villains, leaving the fantastic ones to others.

How would that make any sense though considering REEVES realism vs GUNNS fantasy? merging them would be awful.

dunno why some are acting like sneider has bad credibility. he has a **** ton of sources and got a lot of things right. tho, he did say it's a new source that told him about Freeze, but i don't think it's a flat out baseless claim

Snark aside, I just don't like the guy. His accuracy as a reporter is ultimately inconsequential to me. So yeah, I'd rather hear news or scoops from literally anybody else (except Grace!). :funny:
