In Matt Reeves I trust.

So shooting has been postponed again because Pattinson is making Dune? Wow, this is disrespectful.

Btw. I hate the Dune movies so much and don't get the hype. They erased all the islamic themes and Arabic phrases from the book and 0 Middle Eastern actors in it, cos Hollywood hates Arabs and Islam.

It has not been postponed, because we don't have shooting dates yet.

As for the Fremen. I do think it was probably best to make them multi-ethnic group, as to avoid portraying a certain ethnicity as bloodthirst zealots.

The did the same thing with En Sabah Nur in X-Men: Apocalypse. No middle eastern actor cast as Apocalypse, all references to MENA culture are kept to a minimum. The only thing they show from Egypt is that the people are backward

It's insane!!

Just so we're clear. Souhelia Yacoub's father is of Tunisian decent. She plays Shishakli. Not sure what X-Men :Apocalypse has to do with this. There is a lot of Fremen culture and religion in the film. But as the story makes clear, a lot of it was brought there by the white folks from space. Which is a big part of the narrative.

Awesome to cherry pick this from the thread where this guy (does anyone know him? He's new to me) also clarifies, after a day of sounding super confident about everything and using language that implies direct knowledge, that everything he said was just based on "Speculation" he's heard.

Vaguely familiar, but I just searched for his profile and found that I had previously muted it, which I pretty much only do with the Snyderbots, so that's my guess.

If a scooper posts something, I take it with a grain of salt.

If a scooper posts something & emc reposts it on here, I throw the whole salt shaker at it

I wouldn't blame dune for anything. It's a Warner/legendary production so they wouldn't do it, if it didn't fit Pattinson's schedule.

There are also a few ways to look at it. For Pattinson, he is now going to be in a Nolan movie and Dune, followed by Batman, its massive for his career. The other way is that his schedule has cleared up because the Batman sequel is not happening. I'm sure contractually, batman has priority over all other films.

WB right now is in flux with executives. A week ago they were looking for new ones, Minecraft came out which likely bought Abdy and de Luca more time. Don't think for a second if Superman does mediocre zaslav isn't going to replace Gunn.

I still think once we get close to the release of Superman or shortly thereafter we get clarity on everything. All attention will be on Superman and how that movie does will likely tell them the path forward.

There is nothing and nobody to blame here.

No way someone can believe that Robert Pattinson would derail the production of The Batman Part II to be in Dune: Messiah, and that the studio would allow that to happen.

If he's making Dune next, it either fits with whatever the planned schedule is, or Matt Reeves keeps having trouble with the script and the schedule has cleared up for the time being.

And we've known for a while now that Reeves has been having personal issues. So what are you gonna do? That's life. I'm sure that if he could've made this movie happen faster, he would've.

I think the most frustrating thing is the lack of genuine updates, therefore leaving us in the unknown. In theory, there would be no issue with Pattinson filming Dune this summer and being done in time to start Batman at the end of the year. It could also quite comfortably make the October 2027 release date by filming at the end of the year or Q1 2026. But I don’t know how anyone could say with any confidence that it will start filming then. Nobody seems to really know what’s going on and we’re all just waiting for the day when it’s reported either the script is finished and it’s gone into pre-production or it’s delayed again/cancelled.

What I am worried about is Gunn and the studio pushing this release date so far out on purpose. What if things are ready to go or at least reeves is ready to go but the studio pushed the release date so far out for two outcomes:

1. Superman does awesome in reviews and box office which basically allows them to scrap Batman 2 and move ahead with Batman brave and bold. No filming or production has started so they can easily scrap it.

2. Superman does poorly and the studio then pushes batman part 2 into production so that they have at least this franchise still going strong. Basically a backup plan in case superman fails.

The release date being so far back is strange and this whole production mixed with batman brave and bold production is all weird. WB/Gunn are trying to have a back up option in case superman does well (cancel batman part 2 and move ahead with brave and bold) OR fails (push ahead with Reeves).

Look, obviously its possible that if Superman is a huge hit (or even if it isn't and they want a Batman bandaid, honestly) they'll want to do their Batman super fast and if Reeves isn't ready to go it'll fall apart. Lots of stuff like that could happen. But I don't think we need an extra layer of Machiavellian shenanigans from Gunn regarding the release date - which, frankly, would be extremely irresponsible as a studio head because while correct marketing will help enormously the delay is now big enough it could be a box office problem - when we very specifically know the primary reason is Reeves had a serious private issue. All studios are always in chaos, obviously there's probably some rough stuff BTS, but I think we know the reason more than people are acting like we do.

Ultimately, we're all writing fan fiction about people we don't know based on limited information (much of it purely speculative) and intuition. There's only so far you can constructively get with that.

What kind of updates would one expect, when we know that there are personal problems involved, which Reeves is not willing to disclose? They have no choice but tiptoe around the matter in public until things are ready to go.

Making this a "corporate intrigue" kinda situation is also nonsensical and in poor taste. We know what the underlying reason for the pushbacks is.

It is what it is.

This is one of those cases where being a human being for one sec, and just hoping that things turn out okay for Reeves would be the way to go.

the fact that there is 0 tidbits about the script is irksome. iirc we had lots of that in 2019
