I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

Colin see awards rolling in and now have change of heart about doing another season.

I would be happy with a second season after the batman 2. I think you run the risk of losing some of the luster of the first season. If they do a second season before the batman 2, I'm sure the question will always be, where is Batman. It happened with the first season to but at least the explanation was that it was bridging the gap.

I would be more interested in seeing another villain spinoff and, to me, it's really only the joker and Catwoman that seem to fit what HBO is looking for as well. I do think that if they were interested in expanding, they need the second film out to establish Gotham a bit more.

Jeff Sneider has heard that James Gunn doesn’t want WB to make The Batman 2.

How dare you all speak this way of Lord Sneider! Don’t you know how much he could be making on OnlyFans??

Feel like we can all officially be confident this movie will actually happen. Even more confident that the fandom civil war about DCU vs Battinson will be among the uglier things we've ever seen in this historically ugly fandom!

Gunn hasn't yet cast the DCU's Batman or Wonder Woman, but notes that Robert Pattinson "is still there" in director Matt Reeves' corner of the DC franchise. Although there have been many delays, Pattinson will return for The Batman Part II. Meanwhile, Reeves continues to build out his "Batman Epic Crime Saga," a series of movies and shows, including The Penguin, that remain separate from the main DCU franchise's story continuity.

"What Matt's doing is still really important, despite all stories to the contrary," Gunn comments. "We're supposed to see that script shortly, and I can't wait."

The Batman is my favorite movie and I really enjoyed penguin so hopefully the film happens. I am getting worried but I am trying to be hopeful that it will happen.

In a new Rolling Stone interview, Gunn got candid about the daunting task of crafting a new version of Batman for the DCU—one that must coexist with, but remain distinct from Reeves’ noir-drenched “The Batman” saga.

“Batman’s my biggest issue in all of DC right now, personally,” Gunn admits, striking an unusually vulnerable tone. And while he’s not the one writing the character directly, he’s heavily involved in shaping the creative direction of what is currently still titled “The Brave and the Bold.”

The challenge is clear: how do you introduce yet another version of the Caped Crusader into a cinematic landscape already saturated with him—without falling into parody, redundancy, or irrelevance?

Batman has to have a reason for existing. He can’t just be ‘Oh, we’re making a Batman movie because Batman’s the biggest character in all of Warner Bros.,’ which he is […] I’m not interested in a funny, campy Batman, really.
That said, Gunn claims he’s found “a way in”—a fresh perspective on the character that doesn’t retread old ground but still honors what makes Batman compelling. It’s just a matter of executing that vision alongside the unnamed writer he’s working closely with.

As for Reeves’ “The Batman” entering the DCU? Gunn didn’t slam the door shut, but he’s about as close as it gets: “I would never say zero, because you just never know. But it’s not likely. It’s not likely at all.” He also took the opportunity to push back against rumors that “The Batman Part II” is dead in the water. “It’s not canceled. We don’t have a script. Matt’s slow. Let him take his time… God, people are mean. Let him do his thing, man.”

At the end of the day, Gunn is facing what might be the most high-stakes creative decision in modern franchise filmmaking: reinventing a character that has already been reinvented to death.

Geez, he didn't completely close the door on the merger. Yes, I see he said "unlikely" but :eyeroll: .. Why does Gunn always put in himself in a box whenever he speaks about Batman?

^ I just think the reality of the situation with Batman is a tough one and I don't fault Gunn at all, that's why he probably boxes himself in when talking about it.

You have had numerous interpretations of batman that it's starting to get stale in live action unless you give it a good reason to exist. Coupled with the fact that Matt Reeves' batman and penguin spin-off is successful and now that means you would be competing with a concurrent interpretation that is well liked. Pattinson also happens to be an excellent actor and some of the fan suggestions I have seen are clear downgrades.

Wonder Woman is an easier time, most people probably agree that Gal Gadot isn't the strongest actress. The first movie was universally praised but the second movie was mediocre at best. Lots of room to improve and do something different that hasn't been seen.

There’s pretty clearly some ambiguity about what’s gonna happen, imo. But we have literally no specific details so it’s hard to speculate.

It is hard to speculate right now because superman has not released to the public. To me it's more of a wait and see approach. Superman has to come out first and then you can start making decisions of where things go.

You get the benefit of feedback from the general audience regarding his version of Superman and the dcu.
