I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

Isn't there some really specific Dark Victory stuff in The Penguin that is related to that climax in the batcave? Or am I hallucinating?

Sorta. I think people speculated he would accidently discover the same tunnel Bruce uses to get to the batcave like Two-Face did in Dark Victory.

This place is getting lively again.

We about to find out we're all around. No Robin, but Batgirl is there. No Hush, no Freeze, but Mad Hatter working for Darksied. It's also a musical.
I've had the thought that Oracle would be awesome here. Maybe Joker attacking her is part of what formed the bond between Batman and Gordon?

If this movie does a Robin origin, makes the Graysons' murder the entry investigation for Batman in the story which then connects to some larger Court of Owls revelations it'll pretty much be the movie I was hoping the first movie would be lol.

It's valid to prefer no-Robin Batman stories and there's always great stories you can tell with or without him. Whether you want him or not though, I think you have to admit that we're clearly very, very overdue for a live action Robin on the big screen. And it's never even been attempted in a more serious Batman movie. This makes it an essential piece of the iconography that is ripe for exploration.

I also just would have to admire the swing, because it's entirely possible that you'll lose some people with it who want this to stay a solo Batman detective series, or even upset Robin fans depending on how it's handled.

Without rehashing the whole Court or no Court debate....I just think making the conspiracies too tame and mundane actually is potentially a problem for a Batman movie in the 2020s. I don't want our real world (and underworld) to feel more nefarious than Gotham. And I still think there's no way you call this an "Epic Crime Saga" without having some bigger interconnected web of corruption that gets unraveled. Remember Reeves' comments about the "larger history of corruption". There's going to be something, whether it's the Court, idk. But it's not just gonna be villain of the week with no overarching political/corruption thread that continues to challenge Bruce's assumptions about Gotham. I feel confident about that.

I really think Penguin is going to take the Tony Zucco role in this.
Great point. You know what, that makes a ton of sense. Scratch what I said about the Court. Makes a lot more sense for Penguin to be the main antagonist after how they built him up with his series. I would love for them to introduce Rupert Thorne as well. Basically, let Penguin's councilman buddy from the series be his go between with the corrupt old guard on council led by Thorne.

If the Bat-Signal lighting up at the end of the Penguin series is the result of the Graysons being killed at whatever charity event Oz just came from and he was behind it, it would complete sense why Oz is so unfussed about it all.

There’s a reason no serious live action adaptation has ever done a Robin. Burton. Nolan. And Snyder all sat down and thought about their stories and went “nah”. That’s not coincidence.
Burton almost used Robin in Returns and was part of the reason he was in Forever, and Snyder's Batman had a Robin at one point. So, this point is both moot and irrelevant.

Dark Victory is the best version of Dick’s origin along with Robin’s Reckoning

The circus aspect doesn’t even need to be changed. Cirque du Soleil is still very much a thing.

I’m hoping for Two-Face as well. He and Robin have a lot of history

And also frankly I don't think Snyder would have had any issue using Robin. He just wanted the dead Robin part of Bruce's backstory.
Wasn't Nightwing in production hell forever? Knowing him, he probably would've loved to have Little D.

Also in general when you have a bench of Dick, Babs, Timothy, Kate, and Little D, how can you not want the Bat family? They are legend.

He totally would have done a sexualized Carrie Kelley if he had stayed in power. Why do you think his version of the Robin costume in the Cave had hot pants.

Maybe Penguin, the Court, and Two-Face? Or is that biting off too much?
