I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

I'm just gonna read more Batman comics in the meanwhile. So much stuff, so little time to also worry about the lack of news for The Batman Part II. Make no mistake, the first one is one of my favorite superhero movies ever. But I know it'll come. And that's all that matters.

Arkham Asylum by Grant Morrison and Batman: The Cult is a must read.

Same.

The Batman Part II isn't the Batman project I'm most looking forward to—I have high hopes for a more “hard-hitting” second season of Caped Crusader—but I have so many things waiting for me on my shelves...
Batman : Dark Patterns, Batman&Robin: Year One, The Last Holloween, and Absolute Batman (which I wasn't very excited about at first, but whose reinvention is finally pretty fun to me) are my priorities when it comes to the character. I always prefer standalone mini-series, so when their artwork leaves anatomical obsession aside in favor of stylization, I'm already sold!

I wish I knew which films will be used as inspiration for Part 2. Other than The Batman, I’ve been watching films similar in tone. My watch list is so far is Se7en, Fight Club, Zodiac, Silence of the Lambs, Halloween, The Strangers, Black Phone, and Longlegs. Looking to expand.

Does anyone else do this?

Godfather Part II seems like a safe guess, I even bet there will be a court scene, probably with Oz inspired by that movie

You can add The Game, Nightwatch, Angel's Heart and Kiss the Girls to that list of gritty thrillers.
The show Mindhunter seems right your alley too. Also, my favorite neo noir film : Blue Velvet.

Otherwise, I know that Chinatown was also cited by Reeves as a major inspiration for The Batman.
But when it comes to the next one, I don't know if it will maintain that same atmosphere or if there will be a change like it often happens in the franchise by the past. We'll probably be more inclined to guess the likely references once we know the potential new characters.

In any case, I can imagine a power display scene from Oz in the vein of that famous scene from The Untouchables with De Niro's Al Capone. His musical theme, composed by Morricone, could have also fitted the Penguin in my mind. Grandiloquent, cheesy and yet sinister.

These are some great suggestions. The only ones I either don’t have or haven’t seen are Nighhtwatch, Angel Heart and Blue Velvet (which I’m a bit disappointed in myself for not having seen yet :tearsofjoy:). I definitely need to rewatch the others as well.

It wouldn't shock me at all if Robin is in the script, or specifically Dick Grayson. It would be new territory for the modern batman movies and it's been 30 years since Batman Forever. Reeves has made it known that finding a new angle is difficult with so much covered on film already and this would be a way to differentiate from Nolan's films.

Also, Reeves speaks about connecting to the story and him being a father could have made Robin more interesting to him. It's something difficult to pull off and maybe that's what added to the time it took with the script as adding in Robin is a difficult balancing act depending on the age range.

The great thing for me is that, I'm excited whether he's included or not. As a kid watching BTAS, those Robin episodes were some of my favourites.

“I haven’t read it yet, no,” Wright says of the much rumored about The Batman Part II screenplay. “But I’ve heard some things.”

While Wright hasn’t read the script yet, he seems pleased with what he knows.

“I’m liking what I’m hearing,” says the actor. “And I have huge respect for Matt’s Gotham-building skills. So I’m excited to jump in there and read what he has, which I’m sure will be rich and satisfying to play, and ideally for audiences to take in as well.”

Matt's Gotham Building Skills... turns me on.
Especially in the first 10 Min of the first movie. That gritty look was gorgeous. The shot of the spray can rolling into darkness, the drops head dude being sh*t scared of the alleyway, the rainy weather and misty lights. Hope the sequel is set in winter.

I’d love for Gotham to have a bit more of a neo-gothic look to it. Like, I want more gargoyles and neon signs. I want more stained glass windows, silhouettes and shadows cascading down long creepy hallways. I want to see blankets of snow. Damn, just thinking of the cinematography alone gives me goosebumps.

Still waiting for this

Robin's Reckoning is still one of my favorite Batman related Film or TV adaptations in general , in addition to Batman : Mask Of The Phantasm which is still one of the best Batman films in general imo.

It was treat being around in the 90s and coming home after school to watch episodes of Batman :The Animated Series when they originally aired .

I don't really believe these alleged scoops at the moment, but Robin being in this would certainly pique my interest (moreso than it already is). At that point, who cares who the villain is, we've got Robin.

If he does end up being in this, it'd be great if that shuffles things around for Brave and the Bold so that Damian is dropped from that story to avoid competing Robins. We'll see if that animated Dynamic Duo movie ever gets made; I'm not rooting against it, but I could see it falling by the wayside during development.

Given how unique Dynamic Duo apparently is visually, I don’t see it being dropped. It has the innovation factor going for it.
