I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

I am still hoping they go full Long Halloween/Dark Victory/Hush and just give us an epic mystery ensemble movie where the villain is a mystery right up until the movie's release.

What sparked my interest in Hush for this saga was seeing how enthusiastic Matt Reeves was about him back in early interviews. I wanted to be able to try and understand what Matt saw in Hush that made him even consider that character.

While there isn’t all that much to go on as far as the comics are concerned, Hush is a very interesting concept and there are many elements and inspirations that Matt can use to elevate him and really give us something exciting and memorable.

At his core, Hush is a highly skilled and intelligent psychopathic neurosurgeon (with skills in other forms of surgery) who’s motivation is to destroy the life and legacy of Bruce Wayne. His MO is to exploit the weaknesses of his opponents and commit crimes using his surgical skills.

I think that it’s important to note that nothing about any character has to be exactly copied and pasted from the comics. Personally, I’ve tried reading as much about Hush as I could to get a general understanding of the character, though there’s no telling how much of the character would be reimagined to fit this saga.

So far, the story involving the Waynes and Edward Elliot is a very good set up to the rivalry between Batman and Hush. It feels more like a deeply personal natural progression rather than a “villain of the week” story.

Yeah, they definitely set things up for an interesting rivalry in the film and I have no doubt that Reeves could do something really interesting with him. And yeah, it would likely be a major departure from his character in the comics, since adaptations tend to go a different route. Which in the case of Hush is probably a good thing if I’m just going by his early appearances.

I'm sure if Barry is required they will work it out. The joker is technically in Arkham so they could film those scenes at anytime because it would be all on film sets.

I also would think his contract with the batman takes priority over the Beatles, so they probably worked that out ahead of time prior to him signing on for the Beatles.
That's VERY much the hope, fingers crossed...

It's official: Filming will begin in April 2026 according to Deadline

I suppose there's always the possibility that this is when Farrell starts shooting specifically, and that the movie in general starts production earlier.

As for Barry, I would assume that if Joker plays a major role then his schedule would've been factored into things. They've had time to figure things out on this front. Not going to worry about this until there's reason to worry.

If Joker isn't the main villain of Part 2, and it doesn't sound like it, then I hope he gets more screentime than the little he got in Part 1. Build him up more in the background, leading up to Joker being the main and ultimate villain in Part 3.

Like it all builds up to his "masterplan of chaos" that he will unleash in Part 3. Which could involve him assembling his "friends" in Arkham (i.e. Riddler, Part 2's villain if they survive, etc.). So Part 3 would be Batman being trapped in Arkham ala Arkham Asylum or Joker engineering a mass Arkham prison break onto Gotham.

That’s why I’m hoping for a really loose Hush/Imposter/Prey adaptation—just throw in a bunch of red herrings and let us figure out who’s under the bandages. Is it Tommy Elliott, Bruce’s childhood friend and neurosurgeon? Or maybe a disgruntled cop like in Imposter or Prey—and maybe they’re being manipulated by Crane, Strange, or Arkham? Heck, throw Andrea Beaumont in there too (and dive deeper into Bruce’s origin story, Mask of the Phantasm style). We already know this Batman has faced "Joker" (whether it's proto-Joker or not), so that could fit into the broader strokes of the MOTP story.

And it’d also be cool to see Harvey Dent (and maybe his wife Gilda too?) in the mix; toss them in and let the audience wonder if Reeves is pulling from The Long Halloween. Alberto Falcone is dead in this universe but you start dropping TLH story beats into this film & people will wonder which direction the mystery will lead.

I really think it might actually be the Court of Owls with Hush replacing Lincoln March.
I really don't have any idea of who it could be but this would make sense.

There are so many options for villains that have some story thread from the first movie. We know the penguin shows up briefly, will joker show up, Harvey Dent seems like a no brainer, a classic villain, hush, court of owls, something to do with the Arkhams. Add in Robin potentially.

It will be fun to get confirmation on this.

Hush is a completely terrible character who has been sort of okay a grand total of one time but the upshot is nothing about him matters at all so Reeves can and probably will functionally make an OC. One that I bet will just become how the character is written, like how Bane is just DKR Bane now.
Not even Zombie Riddler edition? :o

im starting to think this is really going to be a straight up conspiracy thriller. pakula influence was already present in the first one, and the two Matts seem to be going even deeper

I'm betting on that too, Reeves has been emphasizing that it will be a very different film and a different kind of mystery.

Nice. Tommy Elliott could even be the surgeon that modifies the Talons if they go that route. I don’t see them going full undead zombie talons but maybe something to give them a bit more edge.

Maybe the same adrenaline/venom Batman used in Pt I

God ****ing dammit, I just remembered that one account making a fake Reeves tweet announcing Hugo Weaving as Hugo Strange and I got mad all over again.

Also... lets not do this again where we overreact to set photos. :o
